I know that the autoblog.com article was in the AE86 Mark II thread, but it was closed right after this story was posted. Since this is a more reputable source I kinda wanted to comment on it, because it is quite the update. Here is the AP story. http://www.boston.com/business/articles/20...y_mull_new_car/ This seems that it will not have a weak ass 1.5 liter but a 2.0 liter H4 from a subby. Wait a minute! Is that not the engine that was in the first gen USDM WRX? Was that engine not turbocharged? Am I getting a little too excited? The answer is yes to all. Maybe it won't be turbocharged either. That would save money. All the the toyota gearheads will have to call up their suburu gearhead friends and get help installing their aftermarket turbo kits. There will be peace in the auto world. |

Now they are collaborating to build a car? I suppose this is more like what they did with GM and their NUMMI plant and the Pontiac Vibe. Just curious as to what they would gain out of this. |

I would also like to point out something to you, VW. The current 2.5L N/A motor makes what, 170 HP? The 2.2L back in the day made about 130. A 2.0L... you see where this is going. Don't get your hopes up. If it's gonna be cheap, it's probably not going to be turbo. And if it's REALLY going to be cheap, that HP number ain't gonna be too hot either. |

Those engines when tuned can choke out nearly 200hp if they’re EJ20s they’re playing with. The turbotax shoots the price up by a good 10k each time anyway. It’ll at best be an EJ20 on a light body and an econo interior Makes me think of an HX. LOL. |

I mean, wouldnt u guys rather have a high reving N/A car? i mean i love the sound of turbos too.....but the high pitch of high revs just gives me goose bumps........ |

1.) Come on, don't lie. It's a FACT that slapping a turbo onto an EJ20 is WORLDS cheaper than tuning it as a naturally aspirated engine. 2.) MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!

If it's a car designed for younger audiences...then there we go :3 I'd foresee a slightly better built EJ20 with slightly higher compression pistons (SRX 10.5:1 perhaps) to choke out 165hp+... |

You do realize that when the ae86 was released it had a lot of power compared to it's competition and weighed more then much of it. Civic/CRX Si's made what 105hp then and weighed not much around 1900lb's. The 4age was a fantastic engine in it's day. I'm been loosing faith in this new vehicle being worth a damn for awhile now. What it seems we should expect now would be something like an MRS.. with the engine in the front, less horsepower and more weight. Last I checked they couldn' event confirmed it to be a 2+2... I predict this car to be a massive disappointment Going some rumors it appears as if BMW is making the ae86.. Here's a juicy one. BMW Blog reports that it has two unnamed, independent sources who have spoken of a high-revving (how does 11,000 rpm sit with you?) new four-cylinder being developed for use in the 1-series. The power target of this fantasy mill is said to be 220 to 260 horsepower, and it would theoretically be offered in both naturally aspirated and twin-turbocharged forms. *yes, it wont be as lightweight as the old ae86, but then again, 3000lb's today is the new 2000lb's from the 80's.. heh :/ This post has been edited by But she looked 18 officer on Apr 9 2008, 12:00 PM
