The car is appraised as a whole, not piece by piece, and I doubt they'll pay you worth on half the car. If you want to buy it back and part it out, that's a different story. But deeeznuuuts would be the guy to ask on this one. This post has been edited by cmspaz on Dec 9 2009, 08:29 AM |

They will try to recoup any money they can by selling it to a salvage yard. The salvage yard will then remove any valuable/working parts, and on-sell them to mechanics/dealers/restorers/individuals. Normally they'll allow you to remove aftermarket stereo systems, but I've never heard of anything else. |

I know this is an old bump, but... Oh man, you should have seen my Buddy's rolled Evo after we stripped it of all aftermarket stuff. There was nothing but the block and some wiring left in the engine bay. Best part was that insurance told him he could do it. The next day it had all the stock stuff back on it, but the fact is that you can pull of whatever you want that's not covered as long as you have a covered item to replace it with.

Some will allow you to touch it, others will do all sorts of things to your payout (generally you lose money) |

Yes but if the parts aren't insured to begin with (AKA they think your car is stock) they aren't paying out for anything on the car, and it's therefore not theirs to choose what to do with. As long as they have a stock car parts-wise in the end they can't do anything.
