Hi guys. This is the first time I'm posting in this forum. My question is about the drifting thing in AAX. I realise that there's a drift button and it will light up when you successfully drifted, but no matter how many times i tried i cant proc the light of the button. Can someone help and teach me how to proc the blue light and the footworks? Please any help will be appreciated.

Oh man I can't remember the footwork anymore, but the Drift light doesn't do anything useful for D7 in Time Attack or Story Mode to my knowledge. It will give you a small boost in a player battle but getting it to light up usually requires you to slow down quite a bit in most situations, as in drift so much that you become slow, just like real life. It's doesn't do anything outside player battles and even then its hard to use and is a fairly high level technique.

It's not like how it was in D6, where lighting the Drift indicator gold up gives you an immediate boost after the drift ends, and lighting it is essential to being fast in the game in all modes.

For D7, it's mostly useful in Online Battle mode where the lag is much larger than In-Store player battles. The tactic player making use of the gold Drifts was to just stay back, get some gold drifts and then use the race boost (the ON/OFF thing you set before every player battle) to overtake you and then stack it with the extra gold Drift boost given near the end of the race to win. Even then I don't think it's suitable for all courses and you can still be playing at a high level without making use of it.

This is contrasted with how it is in player battle D8, where lighting the Drift icon and getting the boost is much easier and won't slow you down as much - or at all even. In D8 player battle, the strategy is the opposite from D7 - lead the race for as long as possible while accumulate as many gold drifts as possible while leading and the amount you need to drift is not that much compared to your normal sliding. Since the battle boost won't allow you to overtake opponent anymore (in most cases) and the game is designed so that the Drift indicator is hard to light up when behind, this is usually the tactic most players use. Like D7, in D8 doesn't seem to do anything outside of player battles.

Wow so drifting in ID6 will give u a boost O_O now thats a bit overpowered tho, no wonder they removed the boost for D7. Anyways i got the footstep in order to light up the button from another guy, but still thanks for the long reply smile.gif) <33

It's not really overpowered as much as it's just how the game is designed. D6 is more of a drift game, and drifting is much much easier and is part of the main gameplay.

Kinda like Ridge Racer, where you have to drift to get the speed boost, so you can go fast (though instead of saving and storing it as nitrous like in Ridge Racer, you just get it immediately after the drift). This mechanic has returned in D0 I think, the latest installment in Japan that came out last month.

Each new IDAS entry usually changes the physics by a lot from the previous one. Compared to D6 for example, D7 is more of a grip game. In D7, the angle your car turns as your steer is also much wider which doesn't encourage as much drift. Much like some of the older entries, you drift in D7 primarily to tackle corners as opposed to getting a magic speed boost, and the drift needed to tackle a corner that is not to the point where the Drift bar becomes gold. You just need to run through the courses as fast as you can usually.

D5's system is even more complicated, counterintuitive and hard to master that I'm not even going to begin explaining it. But honestly one of the reasons why I love IDAS is because the designers are always great redesigning the game to make each entry feel exciting. That has its pros and cons as you have to re-learn and re-adjust but IMO it's one of its strengths that they have executed well.
