Very nice, Takumi Trueno...very nice. w00t2.gif

Posted by: Perry Oct 16 2005, 02:54 PM
thumbsup.gif That's a very nice and clean 86 you got there, Alex. I can't stop taking pictures of it. biggrin.gif Like Alex said, wait for the pictures in the other thread, they will be posted soon.

Posted by: Indecisive Oct 16 2005, 02:56 PM
I can't believe you did that...but to each his own. have to admit it looks very clean.

congrats on 2nd place...time for you to get off the show floor and get out on the drift track behind you though biggrin.gif

like I said, not my cup of tea for copying initial D, and you'll get lots of flak for it, but I've gotta give credit where credit is due.

Posted by: Kakashi Oct 16 2005, 03:06 PM
Looks awesome, and congrats. What do you do for money? Job?

Posted by: TaksPandaHatch Oct 16 2005, 03:09 PM
Cleanest hatch that I have ever seen! Looks awesome. Wish I had one sad.gif

Posted by: Prozac Oct 16 2005, 03:18 PM
wow that is one mint condition Trueno you've got there ohmy.gif Only thing I like a little less about it is the steering wheel, but hey that's just me biggrin.gif Furthermore, awesome :9

BTW are those rims Konig Rewind? I love those, would like to know the brand and type, I believe they would look awesome on a classic MX5 which I would like to own one day smile.gif

Wow TT, that looks identcal. Great work. I wanna know how much that cost. But wow. Great job.

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 16 2005, 04:12 PM
Why do so many people care about how much I put into it?

Anyways, they are Konigs. Obviously not Watanabe. Maybe Ill get Watanabe later....

Where is floatingpoint? Knowing how much he hates cars done up to look like their Initial D alter-ego's, i thought he'd be all over this thread by now with his insults, and accusing the owner of the vehicle of being a poser. unsure.gif

In any case Mr. Trueno, you have my applause. Well done. dribble.gif

By the way, is it primarily for show? Or will you and your car be performing in any "events"? sweatingbullets.gif

Oh yeah I thought that Takumi had a 11k+ rpm meter lol any way you have my humble applause for that sweet ride.

Is that the stock motor or a swap? just asking since i barely see any ae86's here. crying2.gif

It may look fake, but do you know it is? No, you do not judge a book by it's cover. It's like the Ford Festiva Shogun, it looks wimpy and a gay car right? Hell no, it'll probably kill whatever the hell you drive. You do not judge by looks man, I have seen these tough ass looking guys who are really cool and sensitive whn you meet em. It's the same with the hood.

In the cartoon do they ever zoom in to show you that it is carbon fiber? Surprisingly no. All you see is that it is black. Though I went out of my way to get the carbon fiber hood and flip lights

Sure, there are nitpicky things like the tachometer limit, the mudflaps, the seats and whatever else people can find... but come on. That's a wonderful car, man. You should be very proud of it, if you aren't already. ^-^

So, the engine works and everything? She runs well? Last time I heard news from this project it was just sorta a hulk...

Posted by: Akira Oct 17 2005, 03:04 PM
If people REALLY wanna get picky it's not RHD. laugh.gif
I think it's beatiful.
But about the foglamps, it's true you can't tell. But it's known Takumi has Cibie foglamps. tongue.gif
There's two kinds of carbon fibre, you got the wrong kind(which is what I think someone was trying to say earlier), I prefer the kind you have, but meh. tongue.gif
Carbon Fibre, and Carbon Matte. Matte is black, but you can still tell it's carbon cause it doesn't look like paint, and carbon fibre 'fibre' looks threaded. you can still call matte CF. ermm2.gif Look at the ae86 in the live action movie, that's matte.. some people said it's painted but they don't know what matte looks like, and that's it, you can tell it's not paint.
Just to clearify, not being picky, I think it's the sex.
Just gotta know, Alex, how does it perform?

Well, I eventually plan to get the official Watanabes. The side decals that go over the moldings I ordered about two weeks ago but they still have not come so I will add those once they arrive. I will also be improving the engine such as the custom waterline kit we made.

Posted by: sideways Oct 17 2005, 03:13 PM

Back on topic. Side decals that go over the moldings? Which pieces are those?

And are the Watanabes any larger? For some reason, the wheels you have on now seem very small...

I'm also curious as to whether you're actually going to try some events with this car. I mean, you've got it dolled up as Takumi's ride... I'm sure that most of us want to see it slide!

Akira, The car runs awesomely. Though it does eat up gas somewhat fast. Sometime Ill have to record the roar of the engine.

Posted by: sideways Oct 17 2005, 04:21 PM

As to nomake; depends on the watanabe. they offer a huge variety of sizes, they do offer 14x7- which is what TT is running. And when it comes to car vs car, his is better then mine in most respects for the time being. Only way mine would be able to keep up is if I was a better driver

I dont see why peope are so picky about calling a car a Trueno or Corolla or AE86 or whatever. I switch between each name all day.

If I converted my car from RHD to LHD, would you call it a Trueno or a Corolla? Think about it. Since that is basically what they do in the manufacture.

If you guys want to argue wether it was made in the US or Japan. If my car was made in the US as LHD or made in Japan LHD then shipped. What do you guys think.

Just something for you guys to think about. Lets not get too off-topic. happy.gif

I believe the keyword is "Japan". Not many private owners have done it in the US. Those that you see online in maybe google are not by private owners and even they I have seen nearly all of them and they are done worse then mine.

I dont see why peope are so picky about calling a car a Trueno or Corolla or AE86 or whatever. I switch between each name all day.

If I converted my car from RHD to LHD, would you call it a Trueno or a Corolla? Think about it. Since that is basically what they do in the manufacture.

It's like putting a Type R Sticker on a Civic with Type R Everything. It still won't make it a Type R. No matter how hard you try. Look at your insurance thing, it's gonna say Corolla. Or like a 240SX owner caling their car a Silvia. It just doesn't work...

Its falling on deaf ears man, no sense trying to pass the word. Look at the majority of posters in this. Most of them dont post in the automotive section and also would know a camshaft from a crankshaft. All they see is "OMGZ Trueno!!!!111" Just let it be...

But I'm not paying 2,600 for a 158 000 mi car. My dad bought his 89 corolla for 600 and it runs very good.

Back on what you guys were saying, there a lot of people who don't know the diff between a corolla and trueno. Ever since I showed my friends at my old school Initial D. The think all corollas are "86 truenos" wacko.gif LOL. "Cool Imma take my mom trueno and DRIFT!" one of them said.

1. You are posting on an INITIAL D board.

No one is insulting TT's car, or his reasons for buying it. And for everycomment that was made about "its a corolla" you guys have two long winded paragraphs whining about it.
The majority of the people on these boards are quite young but I would say most of the people that are posting in Auto disc. are over 16. The first person to even make the comment that everyone is getting pissy over is what 15, 16? So obviously that age groupe can recognise that putting badges on a car doesnt change what it is. (his civic type-r comparison is quite accurate to an extent). heh, I have seen this same discussion on club4ag and its funny as hell seeing how defencive some people get when you call their car a corolla. Again, I dont believe his comment had anything to do with TT's directly but rather what people are calling it.
I for one dont really care in this case, his car is honstely supost to be a spiting image of the car featured in Initial D and it does so fairly well. I dont believe he is trying to pass it off as a real true to life "trueno apex-gt whatevertheycallit" but rather using it as simply a nickname.

No, we all know. We all also know that Alex doesn't have the funds to get such an engine into his car at the present time. And we know that his current engine doesn't go up to 11000 RPM, which is why we can forgive his mismatch of an RPM gauge.

I like the car its a good replica. I think it's bteer than some kid running around with chrome trim around everything and underbody lights saying "look at my trueno hachi-roku" Who cares if they call it trueno corolla etc.. people who actually tune these cars obviously know they couldn't be a trueno so all you can do is shake your head and go on with life becasue we all know this isn't the last time this is going to happen. Besides isn't it more fun when people look at you wierd when you say "I drive a corolla"

considering how Takumi_Trueno's is american and taht one is from Japan i dont think it can be comparable, seeing how readily that guy there can come up with the parts to get his AE86 into tip top shape, but I do like the way that one looks but he is missing the carbon headlights like Takumi_Trueno has . I would also say that his is almost as close as it can possibly with a budget of an 18 year old.

that's like saying David Hobbs is not entitled to say Schumacher fvcked up in shanghai because he doens't have the same credentials.

not a valid argument.

1. Shumacher fVcked up twice in China. Bad luck? Thats not what THEY think.
2. Hobbs WAS a racer. He may not have been as good as Shumacher is now, but he WAS a racer.
3. Hobbs was racing when Schumacher was still a kid.
4. Shumacher is NOT an 18 year old kid with an undisputable love for Initial D.

Both men have actively participated in racing. Both know their shit, the only difference is that Hobbs' best position was 7th. While Shumachers has been 1st. On several occasions.

Comparing a kid who has no money, no car, no knowledge on how to fix up a car to Hobbs imo is a little... ehhhh... wierd, so is comparing a champion F1 racer like Shumacher to an Initial D fan who takes his love for the series beyond just doting on the next manga or episode or owning an AE86 card in Initial D: Arcade Stage.

Your argument is invalid.

Another thing. The AE86 that Sainz pointed out, that's from Austrailia. Takumi Trueno and his car are from California. Takumi Trueno (an 18 year old - probably still in highschool) vs. Bel Garage (A frigging tuning shop - http://www.belgarage.com.au/index.php). Make sense? If it does, you might want to try buying prescription lenses, or if you already do, go visit an optician to see if your condition has worsened, since your obviously having trouble reading.

Oh, and apparently, my soldier remark has struck a sour note with some of you, in which case, I HOPE YOU GUYS... Will accept my apology. I still dislike Floatingpoint though. biggrin.gif

Just like Ford torinos need a red and white paint job, and RX-7's need a v8 swap.

Honestly, I'd never seen one with the CF headlights aside from Alex's. Lots copy the First Stage version (though have rediculously small door kanji), lots have the CF hood but not lights... and with the one I found today, I've seen a grand total of two which do the rest. Alex's is still more "accurate," though...

Posted by: But she looked 18 officer Oct 21 2005, 10:02 PM
I'm almost possitive I saw pictures of one that was located in the US that was a VERY good copy. Same rims, same red interior(those two being where TT's car falls short), CF headlights, the only differences that I saw get mentioned was the fact that it was LHD and its 20v engine wasnt like the 11k redline 230hp one in the cartoon, but it did have the tach. I also believe they said the suspension setup was based off of KT's TRD ae86 do to his involvement in the cartoon.
I'd go out see if I can find it but I'm almost possitive its been posted here before. And honestly, I dont care enough to spend 5 minutes looking for it. tongue.gif

Are you referring to the car or the bread and milk ? We figure it's a better, if not best way to prove the car is yours on the internet. Surely, you can just put bread and milk on a car and take a pic and say the car is yours. But what's the point ? Ego booster ? Come on now. But I am not surprised if people really do that, there are all kind of people on the internet.

By the way, the official bread and milk pic requires a loaf of bread, those 1-gallon bottle milk (preferably full fat) and a sign saying IDW, IDWF.. etc something to that extent.

I havent joined Club4ag till a this week so I wouldnt know. Well, back then I was looking for info on the car. I wasnt a member though.

The car I bought was unfinished. If you ask if my car was unfinished well of course it wasnt. Everyone that I have seen isnt sold like mine.Once we bought it we stripped it down. And slowly put it back together. Its how my dad does things being a mechanic.

I think that club4ag posts most any car for sale even if it isnt theirs so I wouldnt be surprised, right?

Plus you're seeming to be a bit cocky there, man.. But, people could go on saying "who cares about slightly smaller foglamps, you don't even have watanabes/have a LHD car!" But they don't. Can you show more pictures? You have spotted two things similar but I find many cars with the gas door painted over like mine.

As for the valve covers. I forget the name of the place but they sell a lot of those engines. They have a garage pack full of them and many were like that. But eventually Ill make it silver again to match Takumi's
happy.gif

Considering what my car looks like and what that looks like. They dont look too similar.

I swear, if I had the bookmarks from my old computer, I'd know for sure... but I remember seeing those two photos here a long while ago...

The deja vu, it kills my brain. >.<

Posted by: Akira Oct 25 2005, 12:02 PM
Uhm... The black engines are "blacktops". Takumi has a modified "silvertop".. the silvertop is from the AE101, and the blacktop is from the AE111.
It looks like two of the sovers were just replaced with silver ones. I personally like the look, but if you wanna go all out replica, you'll need the cover assembly for a silvertop. then visually it shouldn't be too different, but for the record, Takumi's car has the front cam guard removed, which is open showing off your cams and belts.
EDIT: TT, I remember you telling me the other day about the sound of your car. The car you're hearing isn't even revving to 12 rpms in the show, which I find almost disappointing, it's just keichi tsuchiya's trueno, so if you want to make it accurate, upgrade a few things according to his ae86, but remember you're running a 20v while he's running a heavily modded 16v(last I checked), but generally they're mostly the same motor.

TT's Trueno is a Blacktop 20v

Takumis 86(Not the real Takumi, the Initial D takumi) is a Silvertop 20v

Doesnt really matter, both engines are awesome and TTS 86 still rocks.

I think he means that since you're not in College spending money on books and classes you can put that money toward your car. You also have more time to work on the car than a college student does. He never said you won't go to college...

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 26 2005, 05:45 PM
Well I assumed he was somewhat being a jerk saying that since I put my money into this car I wont have enough for college.

Posted by: Neo Lorrnoke Oct 26 2005, 06:08 PM
Takumi Trueno, you worked hard on your car and for your age, what you have done is amazing - and someone going to college can also do what you have done, it's just that they'd have to manage their time, adjust their schedule to it, and also find a source of income to do it all. It's all about balance.

More than anything it takes initiative. You have shown plenty of that.

And Takumi Trueno, your assumption is not completely wrong, Iceman is indeed being a jerk.

You make too many assumptions for your own good that Takumi Trueno makes too many assumptions for his own good. dry.gif

YOU QUOTED Takumi Trueno's post which clearly indicates that 18 did not quote or direct what he said to me, how is Takumi Trueno to know? Remember, it has been stated by both of them that they like to mess around with each other. I'm sure TT only glances at this thread from time to time to make sure that people arent spamming it - and probably noticed 18's offensive post and reacted it to it.

Once again, it would be hard for him to tell, on the spur of the moment who the message was intended for. pinch2.gif

I could show you some examples of how to do it. ^_~

For one, you could just put the camera on the ground near the car and rev it. That's what I did. If you want driving, find a place with a fencepost or guardrail and put the camera on it. Then drive by. Simple.

Wow that's nice and clean of AE86 that i've ever seen before!!!

If I can give a rate for this car I'd give 10/10

I've a question Takumi. That installed engine is the AE101's Engine? I've noticed it since I'ce seen the latest Totyta binary esclipse which make the shape ot "T" on it

[Claration : The Japanese believes if you having a leaf fall in to the teacup on the top it's mean the luckyness so that the Totyta's logo suing the binary esclipse shape for making the shape for logo one is for the teacup and one is for the fallen leaf]

I'm wish i can have my own car. But it quite too impossible for me in Thailand since there's no job unless you graduated and the part-time jobs give too few salary!!!

And the AE86 Quite rare to find for me (T_T) and it cost around 2500 dollars. And have to pay a tons of b......t taxes (I'm paying too much of tax too but there's no good things to the salary man like me but goes to those *----* government)

Anyways I still can find AE86 by smuckling from seaport. (It works)

you should also look into megasquirt as well. the latter should give one more satisfaction as you have to assemble the hardware AND make the harness yourself.
