+1 for keeping the wheels as-is. Only thing I'd advise is if you're getting them repaired (which I assume would involve having them repainted as part of it?) then get them repainted hot pink or something ridiculous. And spend the rest of the money on getting it as mechanically sound as possible.

Then learn to drive with the power you have before upgrading anything there.

Don't change the wheels, they look good, and if you're going for the sleeper look (since you didn't want the STI wing), have them widened. So they can look stock while letting you install wider tires.

As for other upgrades, intake, up and down pipe, cat back exhaust and an ECU flash (like the Cobb Accessport) seems to the be the standard fair for Subaru. You should be well over close to 280whp at that point.

Only steel wheels may legally be widened by welding in New Zealand.

To be honest, my advice is to get some factory replacement brake rotors, decent performance brake pads and good, fresh fluid. Then throw some sticky tyres on it and hit the track. That'll tell you what you need to do next.

got quoted all 4 rims machined and painted all up= $650.

I have a tuner friend who recommended just getting a new computer for it if i wanted to get more power out of it.

and yeah have the WOF + rego coming up this week, that should keep the legal side updated LOL.

Also a service coming up, thought id take it to midas isntead of my usual mechanic but i dunno, the subie repair places here cost too much and i hear they are shit aswell.

Generally hard to find anyone that knows how to repair cars in NZ.

I'll try find a subaru forum and ask some people that really know their subie shit on what tuning path to take for this car ohmy.gif

I wouldn't run stand alone unless your making crazy amounts of HP on a heavily modified engine. There is no need to spend that much. A reflashed factory ECU would suit you just fine for now.

got a service today at midas biggrin.gif $156 for oil and filter etc... but thats not the point of this post. lol

They quoted me $998 for cambelt+ everything (waterpump etc) which also includes labour, thats cheap as hell i dunno if they use the good oil or not if its that cheap lol.

winger subaru= $2500~ish + labour
my mechanic= $1200 plus labour.

Subaru timing belts are a cake walk, I'd charge you $500 to do it.

Oh yep, hehe lucky me then, subarus are extreamly popular here in NZ.

But they are also disliked by a lot of people because of all the Bro's putting big bore exhausts and crap on their foresters.

One of my mates hated subies but he loves mine now lol.

Oh yeah gonna be getting front bumper and side skirts repaired and repainted in 2 weeks then will polish it up and take pics of a very new looking sti xD.

Engine maintenance is next and after that ill call up Soichi and see if he will accept tuning an STI.

Oh man, why don't I come here any more?

Oh that's right. Sheer volume of derp awesome.gif

On topic: Awesome car, OP. Nice clean STi with all the right bits. I hope you plan to keep it relatively stock.

Some stuff that may help:

- Polishing, waxing: Get a Mothers claybar kit ($60NZ), use it once every 6-12 months to keep the paint from oxidising. It's also worth investing in Meguiars Ultimate Compound ($35-45NZ) if there's any scruffy bits on the paint. It's more effective than any other cutting compound I've had a play with, and takes off far less clearcoat. Finally, steps 2 and 3 of the Mothers 3-Step (Sealer/Glaze, and Pure Wax, each $30ishNZ) are particularly good waxes for shelf items. They won't do you wrong. (Edit: Herp. You can get these at Repco and Supercheap straight off the shelves... Repco Greenlane often have sales on these items.)

- Subaru mechanics: Even though I personally know several people from Wingers and have done for years, I say reserve your genuine parts buying for them and seek mechanical work elsewhere. They are quite expensive indeed. You may find joy at Highbrook Automotive; they are Subaru specialists and they work on both street and motorsport cars. Otherwise there's Subtech (seem to know less of what they're doing, but are still pretty darn good). Would definitely advise trying Subaru-specific places.

- Subaru clubs:
- Clubsub.org.nz should be your first stop. Possibly unfortunately for you(?) I'm the Auckland Area Rep on this club, but am more than willing to behave myself from now on biggrin.gif There is a WHOLE HEAP of knowledge on this site and while it is regularly patrolled by an army of trolls that'd put this place to shame, the sheer number of industry experts on there is well worth the flagellation.
- Dirtyolbc.co.nz is an up-and-comer with a focus on restoration and motorsport. We're planning our first private trackday in 2012 and are looking at heading to Manfeild early to mid year with driver training in mind. Basically it's an environment where what you want to do to YOUR car is respected, so long as it's safe and lawful. And all Subarus are welcome.
- Sub-stance.co.nz is a more street-oriented club, kinda the polar opposite of DOBC. Definitely have more of an emphasis on raw performance and street looks, but have a lot more regular meets and the gal that runs the show makes THE MOST EPIC CUPCAKES IN THE WORLD.

There were several others back in the day, but sadly they've fallen to the wayside and are now home to only spam bots sad.gif

- Cambelt: get your bits from Winger Subaru (!!!), and then lurk around the forums to see if anyone has the knowledge. Usually the Auckland CS and DOBC crews are particularly friendly and will likely do the belt for beer and BBQ if you get to know them. Definitely don't go too far over its due KMs though, as if it snaps, your valves and pistons will make expensive sounds.

But yeah. There are tonnes of resources around NZ and in Auckland, you'll find most of it all on those car clubs and by asking around.

Epic thread bump is epic, but don't deny the content is delicious and nutritious.

Sounds fantastic actually. They're very complete cars from factory, much moreso than mine that's for sure. IIRC your model probably came with the same tyres as the newer GDBs too - RE070. Very, VERY nice tyres for both street and track.

95,000km is a fair call for cambelt. You can safely take it right up to the line, particularly if the car's not been given death most of its life. When it's time, DOBC has a 10% discount on parts with Winger too, should such a thing be helpful wink2.gif

Oh yeah - also, there's a ClubSUB monthly meet this coming Wednesday. No cruise happening because the weather is terrible, but there's usually a big turnout to this one. 7:30 at Supercheap Auto, Westgate, 13th of July if you're interested (all Kiwis that read this are welcome btw, it's an open event).

lol unfortunatly i dont think i will be able to make it this weds, uni work mixed with gym and starcraft kinda rapes my life atm

though ill see if i can make it and meet some of ya'll in person

good to know they DOBC gets a 10% discount from winger, i think i will need to sell a kidney or testicle to get the cambelt parts from them.

and if midas quoted me $998 for everything then i doubt they are using even half decent parts lol.
