@ Meteor: Interesting.

All I need is some visuals on how these futuristic cars featured in your fanfic look like.

I need pics, I can't picture it out. sweatingbullets.gif

PS. (For this fanfic only) RIP Keisuke. crying2.gif

@Dan: I'm too lazy to post the descriptions right now. Going to post them later.

Anyway, here's the new chapter. Thanks go to everyone for their support.

If you've got Rider of the Sky. Well, what're you waiting for?! Click the play button!

Chapter 9

The RX-14 and Porsche approached the upcoming left hander, engines roaring, The brake discs glowed a fiery red as both cars slowed down to a proper entry speed. Now, both were on the final straight of the uphill. The Porsche, aided by its 380 bhp engine, eventually overtook the RX-14.

But the battle would not be decided there.

The end of the straight was near. The road behind both cars was illuminated with red light. They made a quick U-turn, leaving behind multiple tyre tracks and a thick cloud of smoke as they rocketed off towards the next corner. The Porsche had increased the gap, taking advantage of its high powered engine and 4WD layout.

The Porsche flew towards a right hander. The engine let of a louder roar on downshifting. The nose dipped, and stayed that way as the driver trail-braked into the corner. As soon as the rear tyres lost traction, throttle was applied. The rear tyres spinning for a few more milliseconds before it was joined by its front counterparts. Screeching in protest, they propelled the car around the turn at 119 km/h and off towards the next corner. The RX-14 cleared the turn a second later. Slicing through it at 120 km/h with a low angle drift.

A left hander was up next. Sliced through by both vehicles.

And then one more left hander. Again, sliced through by both the 911 and RX-14.

And the two were now on a long straight. Accelerators down to the floor, engines roaring throughout the night, both cars had topped 180 km/h and were still increasing velocity. Inch by inch, the 911 increased the gap.

The Porsche slid its rear out then corrected itself, the driver began braking while simultaneously shifting down straight into 2nd. The supercharged boxer engine began screaming loudly in protest. The needle on the temperature gauge started to rise further. The tachometer began displaying an incredibly high RPM reading.

Behind, the RX-14 began braking as well, the driver also simultaneously shifting down to 2nd. Ignited fuel escaped from the exhaust. The turbocharged rotary engine was also beginning to overheat. This gain in heat was also followed by a sharp increase in decelleration in both cars.

With the heat being vented out of the engine, the 911 turned in. Spinning the rear wheels first, the car slid around the hairpin. On exit, the gas pedal was pushed down straight to the floor, straightening the car out. One of the peculiarities of the rear-engined layout. One and a half seconds behind, the RX-14 drifted around the hairpin, applying very minimal countersteering.

He's improved immensely over these months.

Both cars sped into the following left hairpin and slid around it, then zoomed off towards following right hairpin. Then another left hairpin. They were now on the long crooked straight. The Porsche again utilised its 380 bhp and 4WD layout. The RX-14 followed it, breathing fire from its exhaust as the driver shifted up into 5th. The 911 kept out of 6th gear, as it would not suit the small bends on this straight. A right hander up next, brake discs glowed red hot. The cars shifted down to 3rd and dove into the two right handers. The RX-14 gaining on the 911. A left hairpin later, they were on another crooked straight. The 911 went full throttle in 5th gear, intent on regaining the gap. The RX-14 was still visible in its rear-view mirrors. The two slowed down a little to tackle a gentle right turn, then braked hard for the upcoming right hairpin. Exiting at over 100 km/h, they sped into the following left hairpin. Slowly, the RX-14 was getting rid of the gap the 911 had built up. Now they were on the curved straight, which consisted of a left bend and then a right, before ending at a right hairpin which was quickly cleared by the two. Skillfully drifting through the left-right S-turn and then around another left hairpin. They headed off towards the left-right-left M turn.

A crooked straight, a gentle right turn and another straight. The brakes glowed red hot, and the tyres were also quite hot by now. The two cars slid around another left hairpin at high speeds. Another straight, then a right hander, then a left. The RX-14 was close to the Porsche's bumper. A left hairpin, then a right and then a left V-turn. Then again a left hairpin, a right V-turn and another left hairpin. One right hander, then one more straight. The 911 and RX-14 went full throttle, then braked hard for a left hairpin. Drifting around another right hairpin, then another left. A crooked straight, full throttle again. The RX-14 was very close to the Porsche. Only one corner remained. Both cars sped towards the final right-hander, both coming in from the outside.

And that was where the battle was decided.

The 911 entered first, and drifted into it. The RX-14 also slid into it. The battle had taken a heavy toll on the 911's tyres. The Porsche slid extremely close to the outside guardrail, the driver letting off the throttle on time. The inside line was wide open, and the RX-14 took it.

One long straight remained, but despite the Porsche's 380 bhp and 4WD drivetrain, they were of no help because of the extremely worn out tyres. The RX-14 stayed ahead all the way to the unmarked finish line.

And after that, both vehicles slowed down to a stop. The driver side doors opened.

Meanwhile, at the gas station.

Itsuki was closing up, and then he noticed the familiar sound of an engine getting nearer, followed by lights illuminating the nearby area.

'Oi, we're closed now.

The window of the car rolled down, the driver poked his head out the window.

'Fill it up anyway.' Said Iketani.

Now, that may seem a little too much time taken for just one chapter. That's because I spent some time on the next chapter.

It sure is great to read / imagine the old Initial D characters having a bit of a "role" here as old or passed... the idea of such, like Initial D in its future generations makes Initial D fans of today feel sad... and "making them upset / affected emotionally" in such manner is the essence of being a good writer. happy.gif

Teaser time.

He looked around him. The place was full of piles of scrap metal that were originally cars. Really not what he was searching for.

Sometimes, a rare find would pop-up, often in pristine condition. Today was not that day. But he'd find something.

A little further, he found a car that was in relatively good condition. The paint had been replaced by rust. The wheels were absent, the brakes just dangling from the car. The left headlight was cracked while the right had some water in it. The hood was absent. And the car was missing most of its bodywork. It wasn't something straight out of the showroom, but it was in far better condition than the scrapped cars piled up everywhere.

He wasn't particularly interested in the car itself though. Rather what was in it.

Chapter 10 is going slowly, but it's coming along. Just wait a week or two more (Damn school. Even worse that exams are coming up soon)

Yes. I know it took a while to come out. (Exams, writer's block)

Chapter 10

The respective drivers of the RX-14 and the Porsche came out.

The driver of the Porsche was 23 year old man of European origin. Blonde hair, black eyes.

The driver of the RX-14 was an attractive 25 year old woman. Dark brown hair, green eyes.

'Yo! That was some great driving back there!' The European exclaimed.
'Same to you. You've improved a lot from fishtailing and crashing into the outside railing.'
'Do you have to bring that up every single time Minako?'

Meanwhile.

While the fuel tank of Iketani's Nissan Teon was getting filled, the two old friends began conversing.

Author's note: The Teon (pronounced Teh-On) is a 1.7 litre RF layout sedan. An econobox designed with a little fun in mind.

'So, how's life?' Iketani asked.
'Going good. Making a good profit off gasoline and ethanol. Especially gasoline.'
'And you're still stuck with that old 85, aren't you?'
'Yes yes yes. I know it's an "old 85", but do you have to speak about it that way?'
'Just asking.'
'Anyway, how are things on your end?'
'Going great.'
'As for everyone else?'
'Everyone's doing fine. Kenji's doing fine, the manager's enjoying retirement, Takumi's doing fine too. He's temporarily retired from WRC but he'll be back there soon.'
'Wait. Takumi retired? Why?'
'Not really sure, but he just doesn't seem like himself. It's starting to worry me.'

'What about the Speedstars?'
'Did you seriously expect them to be around that long?'

A small, awkward silence as both remembered their days in the Akina Speedstars.

Back at Mt.Akagi.

'How much exactly did you end up putting into that Porsche?'
'Can't really remember it myself. I just know that I installed this, installed that and tweaked around a little bit here and there.'
'Must have cost a lot. Especially the SCM.'

Author's note: Slide Control Mechanism is a fictional technology in this fic. Basically, when the computer detects that the car is oversteering, it gradually applies power to the front wheels instead of immediately. With the aid of a switch installed into the dashboard, the computer can quickly switch to its second program that cancels understeer by slightly slowing down the front wheels while quickly locking and de-locking the rear wheels. Also, you can connect a laptop to the SCM unit to quickly change how much percentage of power goes to the front/rear wheels and how quickly it reacts to oversteer. Or you can just make a setup file before-hand and keep it in a USB drive for when you don't have the laptop.

'How'd you know?!'
'Isn't it obvious Stephane? You drift a lot, and your car's behavior during the slide says it all. A normal 4WD car wouldn't slide the rear out so quickly. Plus, 4WD cars have slightly negative angle on exit when they slide around hairpins whereas your 911 has none of that.'

Author's note: Negative angle means nose pointing towards outside.

'And you observed all that, while slicing through Akagi's roads. .'
'You also set your rear tire pressure low on purpose. Combine that with your aggresive driving style and the rear-engined layout, and your tires wear out faster. It gives you an advantage on the expressways through higher cornering speeds but won't help much here.'
Stephane remained silent for a second, in awe of her analysis.
'How'd you know my tire pressure settings?!'
'You told me last time, before going off for a drink with your fellow Silver Katana drivers.'

'So that explains why I woke up that one day under the dining table.'

Author's note: Typical drinking humor, isn't it? Wait. You were expecting more from this?!

And after some more conversing.

'Well, guess I'll be heading back now.' Stephane opened the door of his expensive German coupe.
'See ya.'

The rear dipped slightly as the 911 drove away.

'Some more time, and he might just beat me.'

1st gear. Steering and full throttle. The RX-14 quickly spun around and began heading back up.

The Takahashi Residence loomed into view.

Hakiya kept the revs at a steady 2400 RPMs as he made his way back home. What he had recently witnessed was still on his mind.

It's not the turbo lag. It's not that the car sucks. It's me!

Those two. They're far above me in skills. And that RX-14 had simply been toying around the last time I raced it.

I'll have to push harder if I want to stand a chance.

The next day.

The car he was looking at was an early generation Daihatsu Zoom.

Author's note: Daihatsu had decided to try and make a sports car. The Zoom was the result. A two seat hatchback with round headlights, short hood, large grille and somewhat boxy rear. The engine put out about 190 bhp, but the whole car weighed about 650 kg. But to save production costs, they made the car an FF.

In the not particularly famous words of Shuichi Shigeno "This is all fictional."

The engine did have some potential in it. It wasn't particularly powerful, but it was a light engine.

Now he just needed something to put the engine in. Something that was light, and supplied power to the right set of wheels.

He didn't find the whole car, but he did manage find the necessary drivetrain parts. If he could just find a few more things and stick them into the Daihatsu, this little project might just go along nicely. .

Money exchanged hands. He was done shopping. He couldn't expect to find everything he needed in a junkyard. He'd find the rest somewhere else.

Chapter 10.5 (Because it's going to be short)

The previous day.

The headlights illuminated the ground in front as the RX-14 rolled into the Takahashi Residence and towards the garage. After parking the car, Minako waited for the rotary engine to cool down.

20 seconds should do it. She watched the needle on the temperature gauge drop steadily

The key turned anti-clockwise. The engine let off a quiter roar before going into a eerie silence, its headlights and tail-lights no longer emitting light. The right-side door opened.

Minako shut the door, and made her way towards her room.

The faint sound of typing. Her father was probably working on something to do with the clinic.

She got to her room, went in and plopped down onto the bed.

Ryousuke continued typing.

This just doesn't feel right anymore. Stuck here, typing out some paperwork. And my FC is just sitting there for that long, doing nothing by gathering up dust. I'm long past racing. But why can't I let go of that car?

Maybe I'll start it up tomorrow. Maybe then I'll find out "why?".
