Well, it's my first proper fic (previous attempts were mainly Ace Combat based), and I hope you'll enjoy it. It takes place not long after the battle with the Gods, before the 5th stage material. (which was ignored) HUGE Kudos to both Sanae and FinToy-83, who have provided lots of valuable help during the writing. This fic wouldn't be created without you two. smile.gif

PROLOGUE

July 26th of 2008, Akina, Japan. A typical summer in the Gunma prefecture. A gaijin season one could say. At that time Japan was swarming with many foreigners busy with taking pictures of literally everything and torturing their credit cards at Japanese shops. Most of them were Americans, attracted to Japan by the perspective of familiarizing themselves with a foreign culture and stocking up on otaku merchandise.

It was about 3PM when Takumi Fujiwara was coming back home from his delivery job. His precious AE86 was fixed after the race with God Hand, however he preferred walking to and from his workplace. As usual, the street was filled with tourists. Nosy foreigners certainly were on young Fujiwara’s “dislike” list, though he usually was able to ignore them. As he was drawing closer to his house, he noticed that a certain detail wasn’t right. There was a weird car parked in front of the Fujiwara Tofu Shop. An old red coupe. Boxy styling indicated that it was about the age of the boy’s trusty AE86, yet it certainly was designed in a different way. Bloated fenders, aggressive front lip, and the odd adjustable rear spoiler were all peculiar to Takumi’s mind. The vehicle sported quad headlights and had an “///M3” badge on the grille. He was trying to identify the car’s maker as he heard the sound of a door opening. It was the door of his own home. Outside came a gaijin. A boy about Takumi’s age, dressed in a blue Hawaiian shirt and a pair of jeans, he certainly differed from typical tourists.

The stranger shifted his gaze to Takumi, put up a wide smile and said:

‘Why, hello there, Fujiwara-kun! You’re the local racing star, aren’t you?’

That certainly got the young Fujiwara puzzled. Being recognized by racers was something normal considering his winning streak, but being recognized by such a weird gaijin was certainly something new. The stranger didn’t mind that and continued:

‘Actually I have no time for introductions, Fujiwara-kun, but I’m sure we’ll meet again soon.’ he said as he climbed into the red coupe. He then fired up the engine, which came to life with a whine. As he was driving off the whine had turned into a powerful roar. Takumi concluded, that whatever was under the hood of that car was as weird as its driver… and really powerful.

After that meeting Takumi knew one thing for certain, he certainly disliked the unknown man’s attitude. Since the stranger was gone, the boy decided to finally enter his own house.

The inside looked as always: tidy and empty. Bunta was sitting on his chair and reading a newspaper.

‘I’m home. And oh, oyaji, do you know that man who just came out?’ said Takumi with his usual bored voice.

‘Oh, him? Isn’t he a new rival of yours? He’s about your age, is weird, and knows your name. ‘ responded Bunta, barely lifting his closed eyes from the newspaper.

‘What did he want?’ asked Takumi. At that moment he knew that he didn’t just dislike the unknown man. He almost hated him.

‘Oh, he asked about your car. He’s quite a knowledgeable fellow, you should try to learn something from him.’ said Bunta with a slight hint of criticism in his tone.

Takumi decided that there’s no point in listening to Bunta’s criticism, so he headed to his room to rest up after work. He didn’t know that even weirder things were about to happen.

At the same time Keisuke Takahashi, Project D’s uphill ace, was practicing on Akina. Leisure practice was something Keisuke spent most of his free time on, he was afraid that without it he would fall behind Fujiwara. He especially liked to practice on Akina, after all that was Fujiwara’s home course. Defeating him there would be a sweet form of revenge. He was diving into the third corner of Akina’s famous 5 hairpins as he heard a furious engine roar and a loud bang behind him. Someone was clearly following him. Someone equipped with a misfiring system.

‘A challenger, huh? Fine then, let’s see who you are first!’ said Keisuke enthusiastically, he didn’t encounter other drivers too often during his practices.

Keisuke caught a glimpse of the other car’s headlights when he was entering the next hairpin.

‘Pretty fast to catch up, eh? Well, we’ll see what you can do!’ shouted Keisuke. Certainly, a battle was a nice addition to his practices.

Between the two final hairpins Keisuke finally had a chance to take a quick glance at the car behind him. The car was low and sported quad headlights. The loud, unmuffled roar of a turbocharged I4 engine, occasionally interrupted by backfiring, easily silenced the FD’s rotary. Keisuke dove into the final hairpin, and the mysterious car caught up completely. By then the young Takahashi had realized, that there was no fooling around with the unknown driver. He entered the corner as fast as he could, in a style between grip and drift. Throttle control was certainly one of Keisuke’s assets, so the maneuver was not only fast, but also tire-efficient. The opponent’s headlights illuminated the RX-7’s interior. Keisuke subconsciously noted that the car was white.

‘Damn, he’s still keeping up!’ said Keisuke.

Right after that corner lied a rather quick right-hander, and soon after a sharper left corner, the place where Fujiwara defeated Keisuke for the first time. Keisuke decided to take the shortest route through the two corners. As he was entering the right hander, the other driver accelerated and placed himself on the outside. The corner was wide enough to fit the cars, and the enigmatic challenger was now driving side-by-side with the uphill ace of Project D.

‘Don’t tell me he’s…!’ Keisuke muttered in disbelief. His eyes subconsciously registered that the mysterious car was boxy and wide.

The white car let out another bang, and entered the left hander. This time he was on the inside, having the advantage. The driver completed the maneuver and traded places with Keisuke. By then Keisuke knew that the car was a hatchback. The challenger floored the throttle, and his car rapidly shot itself forward thanks to grip coming from all wheel drive, making up for the speed loss needed to negotiate the corner on the inside. The acceleration was enough to increase the distance between the two cars. Keisuke noticed how quickly the white hatch entered the next corner, and brought his car to a halt.

‘DAMN!’ yelled Keisuke as he furiously punched the FD’s dashboard. That was the third time he was humiliated on Akina. Clearly, Akina wasn’t his lucky mountain.

And now each of the Three Musketeers have a fic of their own.

Quite a good start. I would love to see more.

I second Meteor's comment. As you know already I want to see what you have in mind so, I'm hoping that there will be more or less regular updates. Who knows, it might encourage me to write faster.... (<-- now, that's what I call blackmail tongue.gif )

And yes, now the Three Musketeers are fanfic authors too! w00t2.gif

Thanks, I'm glad you two like it. smile.gif

Well, I can't match Sanae's insane speed without losing precision, the next update should come next week as I'll be pretty busy soon. And that is really extreme blackmail Sanae ^^

And Meteor, I didn't have the pleasure to read your fic yet, but I guess it's time to make up for that mistake. LONG LIVE THE 3 MUSKETEERS!

^*gulp* And that means I'll actually have to update the remake of my fic.

Oh well. Off to find a better map of Mt.Akagi (gotta make sure I haven't been writing the course backwards).

Anyway. All for one and one for all! LONG LIVE THE THREE MUSKETEERS!

@FinToy - we can use that for blackmail I think tongue.gif
@Meteor - an update would certainly be appreciated. ^^ As for a map... I think the ones from Initial D are the best, just flip these upside down in any graphical program or even while looking at them in Windows' default graphics viewer. (the top of the mountain, the start for downhill in other words is on the top in Akagi's case). An example of such a map

You're welcome. I used an Akina map from the same source, that's why I've mentioned the flipping (in Akina's case the downhill start was on the bottom, which is IMO easier to read). Youtube videos can come in handy for the corners too, this one is my favorite for Akagi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh-BSyIrWnI also, thanks to it I've realized where is the downhill start on the map. ^^
