It is a comfortable, fast, convenient STREET vehicle. If I wanted a competitive dedicated track car, I would just buy another car better daytime photos, as promised: Image size reduced, original size: 960 x 720. If it gets rear ended as it sits, it's still totaled. NADA doesn't account for the tofu tax. Streetable track cars are totally where it's at, though.

Design isn't the issue, it's the lack of paint. It just looks tacky compared to the perfect finish of the rest of the car.

Yeah, and US-spec (USDM is an incorrect term: "domestic market" means American cars built for America) bumpers are only designed for 5-MPH impacts. A 30-year old corolla is going to get totaled for insurance purposes pretty much no matter how it's hit.

Another reason why Canada is better, keep your receipts for your mods and you get reimbursed.

The wonderful thing about modding the crap out of a cheap car to build a track/race car...you can buy a new roller and be back to where you were for a reasonable amount of money if you total the chassis. You'll never get bodywork back, which is why I prefer to spend money on parts (especially universal ones like wheels, gauges, seats). |

I will be painting it when the CF fenders and flarescome in. Trust me, the rest of the car isn't in any better condition The whole car will get a proper paint job, but there's a high likelihood I'm keeping the USDM rear bumper. USDM was rated for 10mph, as opposed to JDM which is rated for 5mph. If you actually looked at the bumper mounts of JDM vs. USDM, it'd become really apparent. It may not save me from a full on rear end collision, but it'll save the car if some old lady backs into it. Remember, daily driver after all. And a streetable track car would be nice, but that is not what this car is made for. Again, if I wanted a streetable track car, I would make a streetable track car. This here is a comfortable daily, which is why it will have full interior, functional rear seats, a radio, and AC... things a track car shouldn't have. But I find that in most cases, dialing in the alignment, brake balance, and suspension matters more than upgrading calipers and rotors unless you are going to go full throttle for more than a few laps at a time, so long as you can lock the tires with a reasonable effort. But if your rears lock before the fronts (or pull to one side) that upgrade was a waste, because you lose a good 30-40% of your stopping power (and stop worse than stock). I am currently having that problem and haven't managed to solve it yet, although I have some ideas as to the cause. |

Try a little more than 3x haha. This was an SR5, and it had a very neglected 4AC. Originally dyno'd at 61whp, now 201whp. Also. This is an AE86. Brake balance is around 80% front 20% rears. Rears will never lock up before fronts. Car actually doesn't need these brakes. I got them because the car will become a show car eventually, and bbks always look nice. These are actually overkill for an AE86, and I have to be careful not to lock. With stock fronts and supra rears, it stops just fine since it's so light.

I know how you feel. Arizona heat is just as bad. Get a friend with a garage, and offer him beer. It'll be so worth it when you actually get to drive/track your car. This post has been edited by Crono0001 on Sep 1 2014, 08:16 AM
