Indeed- no TB on diesels. The pedal controls how much fuel goes into the engine.

I think ALDA is only on the turbo models.

Either way, these old diesels work on black magic. The throttle response is probably non-linear because it takes an animal sacrifice to properly calibrate the injection pump. Electric injection is the best thing to happen to diesel technology.

Yes, Turbos make them peaky, and that's probably the exact reason the throttle isn't linear. You won't really start building boost till you're really laying on the pedal. These aren't the most sophisticated turbo setups.

Probably not. I'd still take it to a specialist and have them calibrate the injection system. Particularly if you get a bio-diesel or straight veg oil setup. If you really want to make it respond better, put a more modern turbine on there.

I can't speak to their durability, but the Germans, MB and BMW in particular will reproduce about any part, if they don't already have it on a shelf. The parts won't be cheap, but good luck getting any sort of parts support 30 years down the road from a domestic.

I think you're probably safe to daily drive it for a long time. Just over 100 horses isn't particularly taxing on a 3.0. The transmission I have no idea about, I don't do automatics. I know a manual swap in these things isn't unheard of.

its a diesel...that's what they do.

It's normal for diesels, its not made for throttle response and acceleration. It is made for torque and fuel economy.

I've been thinking of reanimating the corpse of my dad's first car here in the states- 500TD Wagon and turning it into my VIP cruiser/heavy carrier. Can't have enough ships in the dreaded Imperial starfleet. Has anyone else worked on these cars here?
