High school 2nd year, Amano Yukiteru, is a boy who has problem making friends. He thinks of himself as a bystander and will always write down everything he sees in a cell phone diary. Tormented by solitude, Yukiteru began to imagine things like a friend called Deus Ex Machina who is apparently the Lord of Time & Space. Seeing Yukiteru's miserable state, Deus gives him a new ability; his diary will now record events that will happen in the near future. Yukiteru is then forced to participate in a game in which the winner will become Deus' successor.

Anime News Network

I just read this up to the latest chapter (49), and find it quite an interesting premise. 12 people, each with their own motivations, were given the power of prophecy and have to kill each other in a competition to become God. Although the plot could be improved a lot more to be more logical (characters' actions/reactions in fights), it's pretty nice overall.

The manga is currently near ending with last three standing and some twists. There are another two side stories, Mirai Nikki: Mosaic and Mirai Nikki: Paradox, which I haven't read yet.

The main female character, Gasai Yuno, is probably the best example of yandere. XD

Yeah, Mirai Nikki is a pretty awesome manga... It's been licensed for release in North America and I am pretty sure I caught Nomake Wan posting an image of one of the volumes as a purchase in the Recent Purchase(s) thread.

Yeppers, Volume 4 is the latest one I have. If 5+ are out I gotta hit up the bookstore, 'cause it's absolutely amazing.

Side note, a VN-style PSP game was released for this series about a week ago, apparently on the premise of restarting the games with a 13th diary holder and reviving some of the old enemies. For instance, so far I've run into 3rd, except he's not a diary holder, he's my homeroom teacher. blink.gif

Not to mention, the game actually has something called a "Yandere Operation System," in which as long as Yuno is on good terms with you (there's a gauge... seriously), she can strike down 50% of the options when you have to select something. Only problems being that for one, you have to be on good terms, and for another, she has to be with you.

At the moment, I saved and quit where I was about to get murdered in a hallway. I have yet to go back and see if Yuno miraculously showed up to save my ass, otherwise it really is DEAD END. dry.gif

The game is cool, but sadly there is only music and SFX, no voices. Still, I'm hoping that a successful game and manga series will lead it to getting its own Anime. I certainly enjoy it more than I did Death Note, and I liked Death Note (well, up until that last arc BS, but the first ReWrite movie fixed that). I'd love to see Future Diary animated. happy.gif

Another one on my list. Maybe this time I'll actually watch it ep by ep.

Though, there seems to be a hint of the 'Evangelion Effect' (naimly 25-26) in here... his accomplice is an imaginary friend? <.<

You know this isn't an Anime, right? unsure.gif We're talking about a manga and its associated PSP video game. There is no Anime. I just wish there were.

Haha sorry if I did. You probably thought of anime because of the link's name (Anime News Network). tongue.gif Yeah, there's no Mirai Nikki anime at the moment. I wish it could be animated as well. But who knows, since the manga appears to be reaching its ending. happy.gif

I happened to found it last week when I was looking around in onemanga.com. The summary looked interesting, so I read the first chapter, and then got hooked. It gives me the Death Note-ish impression when I read the first chapter. When the 'tournament' was set up, it gives me Liar Game-ish impression. So overall, it's like Death Note+Liar Game, but without the intense psychological battle portrayed in those two series. Lol.

Thought it was awesome after reading it so I decided to introduce it here. happy.gif

It's been a little over two months since the last official chapter, and less than a month since the last "special" chapter. For a relatively obscure monthly manga, I hardly consider that a long wait.

I lack patience. pinch2.gif

But yeah, it can't be helped anyway, since it's pretty long per chapter. To think up a story AND draw it, I can't do that in a month.

Looks like they are making an anime for this. When it airs, I will definitely give it a watch.

OVAs are usually short... I hope they can cover the whole story. :/

Still, it's awesome to watch it in anime. Lol. I'll definitely watch it when it's out.

It's a single 20-minute episode. It won't cover the whole series, nor do I want it to.

What I want it to do is sell well. Sell well enough to convince them to make more. That would justify, for me, the short 20-minute runtime. 20 minutes is a standard TV show... so there had better be more episodes, dammit!

Wow I'm looking forward to the pilot anime in September. Looks good. w00t2.gif

Latest chapter is 53, btw; last two standing.

So I think it'll end by the time the OVA is out. Then they can start making the series in full.

Only 2 survivors left now, so I think it's going to end very soon. The twist was kinda expected, though.

So this thread didn't get updated, but apparently a LQ (well, what goes for LQ these days just means a little bit of interlacing) rip of the "OVA" got posted to the net. On top of that, it's already subbed by Mazui. Sadly, it's only some 9 minutes long. I watched the first four minutes of it and it's quite literally an animated version of the first two volumes or so.

I pray that it ends up like the Strike Witches OVA and becomes a pilot for a much longer series. It's good, it's just... short! sad.gif

Saw the "OVA" myself as well, and it feels more like a pilot episode or an extended trailer than anything else. It vaguely introduces the characters and the settings with little regard to anything else.

Also do you actually mean the short covering 2 volumes or 2 chapters rather? Cause it didn't seem like anything much happened at all in 2 volumes judging from what i watched... lol

What you watched was a SERIOUSLY chopped-up version of the first two volumes. It completely took out the first battle against a Diary-Holder as well as most of the character development and the meeting of the Diary-Holders. IIRC Volume 2 is where the school bombing happened, whereas Volume 1 was all setting up the story and introducing you to the Diary Game.

That's why, like you said, it feels more like a long trailer than anything else. With luck it sells well and convinces someone to do a full series. Done properly, it'd be better than Death Note. happy.gif

Well the manga just finished, so maybe a full season could be in the works now?
