Does anyone know what cars came equiped from the factory with garrett T3 turbos?

I've found an exhaust manifold that'll allow me to bolt one on, but turbos are kinda expensive on ebay. I'd like to see if i can get one at the local junkyards, maybe i can get a good deal biggrin.gif

Then all I've gotta do is figure out how to mount it, plumb it in, increase the fuel input...... the simple stuff.

I believe mopars from 1984-87 used garrett t03's, as well as isuzu impulses from 85-89.

from what I can find, the T3's on mopars use a different exhaust mounting from a standard T3, but i think the rest is the same, maybe one can be adapted to the standard rectangular flange. Does anyone know?

Ok, don't quote me on this but I'm going from memory from a buddy who's a big turbo guy. A) the Ford Thunderbird Turbo coupe and the The Ranger had the T3 (Would also put it on the stang svo) and said the difference in the housings was in stud placement and could be milled to swap around. The ford was the stock configuration and the Mopar for the daytona was offset. So if you need the stock square the fords would be the first place to look. Not sure if I'm correct just going from memory but it's an idea.

I currently have an 88 vw cabriolet, 1.8 liter, 4 cylinder, 5 speed. I found a site offering an exhaust manifold to mount a T3 turbo on my vehicle's engine. that's why I'm looking for one

I would rather have a cheap turbo of good quality than an expensive turbo of good quality.

and by the looks of their website, they sell Garret and Turbonetics turbo's, so they cant be too bad. Its not like the sell some no-name brand.

Turbines themselves are cheap but add in the cost of piping, intercooler, manifold etc like in a turbo kit and thats where you spend the bucks.

Thats why you build your own kits... if you know what youre doing, its a lot cheaper and has way more potential.

And just putting a turbo on a car isnt the best thing to do. Build the engine around the turbo, dont just build an engine and then go, "Hmmmm i need mad fast, TURBO!" You seem like you know what youre doing, so this probably wouldnt apply to you. Just as a general rule... if youre gonna run lots of boost, invest the money for forged internals and all that good stuff you need. It will pay off a lot in the long run.

*laughs* NOS is great in the 1320, but i doubt it'd be very helpful in the twisties. I'm planning on building an engine around my turbo, there's an 82 sirocco I'm gonna take the engine out of and build my turbo system onto that. Then I'll install the entire engine into my vehicle. sadly, I'm restricted to 170 hp or so by the stock fuel injection, and stand alone FI is out of my price range, for now. Someday....
