FF has been let down after let down for a long, long time for me. The last good FF games for me were on the Ps1. FF13 actually got my hopes up a bit- What a massive let down that was for me personally. This post has been edited by sideways on Jun 30 2013, 02:40 AM |

Maybe I've got high expectations for this game because of the trailers, but I get FF VII vibes from it and VII is one of my favourites (besides IV and VI). I hope that Square Enix doesn't disappoint like they did with XII (great game, but story went downhill about midway through the game)... |

Technically that's just how to make a character Nomura's way. Square has a lot of great character designers. Or at least they used to. Nomura is the one that's obsessed with zippers, belts, beads and using the same basic character design over and over.
I'm looking forward to it. I haven't been this excited for a main series FF since FFIX. I enjoyed the Kingdom Hearts games, so I welcome the KH style game play with open arms. Especially after playing with it in recent KH games like Dream Drop Distance. I can see them really making an in depth system for FFXV. But yeah, I hope the story holds up as well.

Overall I enjoyed it. Definitely shaping up to be the best FF in years. At first I was put off since I couldn't control the other party members, but this game is one of the few instances where the AI actually do their job. The combat surprised me since I was expecting it to mainly feel like Kingdom Hearts, since the KH team worked on it. This game has it's own feel, but if I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it reminds me of Type-0/Crisis Core mixed with the fluidity of KH combat. I just hope it won't get all super combo crazy towards the end of the game like KH games do. And don't get put off by me saying it's like Crisis Core or KH. The combat surprisingly has a lot of depth. A lot of stuff wasn't available for the demo, such as spells and most of the abilities, but what they gave us is plenty for a demo. Combat is all about MP management. Kinda like how Gundam EXVS games are all about boost management. You're a sitting duck in those games if you run out of boost, and you'll most likely die if you run out of MP in FFXV. Also there's timing your attacks, defending, dodging, parrying, memorizing enemy attacks patterns.. etc etc. So there's plenty to learn, and I'm sure there will be even more to learn when the full game comes out. I loved the monsters. I'm a classic FF fan and I really enjoyed the classic look they gave the monsters. The catoblepas, garulas, goblins.. They all resemble their SNES counterparts. Although, the monsters can be overwhelming at times. You'll be fighting some soldiers and all of sudden a soldier will shoot a garula and now you got a herd of garulas to deal with too. You'll die a lot. The enviroment was nice too. The area was pretty big. From what I hear, the Duscae Plains(hence the demo name Episode Duscae) isn't even the full Duscae region. It's only 10% of it. So the entire world is going to quite huge. The day/night cycle was pretty interesting. You fight and gain experience like usual, but when night comes and you set up camp, that's when you level up. You can also cook food depending on what items you picked up or bought during the day. That food will give you a stat buff that lasts only for the following day. Days last about 40 minutes and nights last about 20. This post has been edited by Phantom_R32 on Mar 18 2015, 10:20 AM |

Sounds like it's shaping up to be a good game, I just don't want to get my hopes up like I did for FF XII, which I was hoping would be as good if not better than FF VI and VII which it didn't sadly. It's pretty cool that the game has a day/night thing going on, is there any difference in battles and the like? I know in the FF IV sequel that Square released in the last few years they incorporated a day/night feature which effected the types and difficulty of certain monsters during the night.

It's hard to compare story wise since not much is known about FFXV in that aspect, but gameplay wise I prefer FFXV so far. The only thing holding XV back for me are the characters. They might grow on me, but right now I don't really care for them too much. My favorite FF is FFIX and it's going to be hard to compete with those characters, in my opinion. As for the difference in battles, most definitely. I don't know if you ever played Dragon's Dogma, but it kinda reminded me of that. The battles at night felt tougher than the daytime battles. It didn't feel like a death sentence like if you tried fighting during the night early on in Dragon's Dogma, but my HP dropped a lot pretty often at night in FFXV. |

The thing is I liked FF XII quite a bit, I loved the environment and gameplay, it's just the story was pretty mediocre and just continued to go downhill. I kind of wonder what game it would have ended up as had they not switched directors midway through and kept their original plan of having either Balthier or Basch. I've never played Dragon's Dogma, the only game I've played that had a day/night scheme (that I remember at least) was FF IV: The After Years which really upped the difficulty if you were adventuring during the "night". As for FF IX, I actually only recently beat it and really really liked it; it's definitely grown on me a lot in terms of the story and characters, it's in my top 3 FF games.

IDW Goldmember Group: Advanced Members Posts: 2,164 Member No.: 3,607 Joined: Oct 9th 2004 Location: Update Profile | Final Fantasy has sort of faded into the shadows for me since XIII and I've been pretty skeptical of where the franchise is going since I haven't really liked any of the single player games since IX. I've been atleast intrigued by the footage from XV. I'm still abit confused by gender bending Cid too. It's certainly a game I'll play at some point when I finally get a PS4. I've been interested in playing Type 0 for some time but will have to wait on that aswell. I'm still hoping for an FF Tactics 2. This post has been edited by RalliKai on Mar 19 2015, 07:56 AM |
