It's been quite awhile since there are any news for Initial D anime. Recently, AVEX has confirmed a new installment for the Initial D anime series that marks the 10th anniversary for the franchise. The new side story is called Initial D Extra Stage 2: Tabidachi no Green. It is set to air on SkyPerfectTV in October and the DVD set will come out on December 5th. Pre-order of the set is not available yet. A BOX set will also be released on the same day. The Extra Stage BOX set contains the first Initial D Extra Stage and the new Extra Stage 2. For more information, please refer to the http://mv.avex.jp/initial/initial.html. There is a short clip on the Official Site showing some of the new content from Initial D Extra Stage 2.

At the moment, it is uncertain whether or not Extra Stage 2 will continue from where Extra Stage left off previously or if it's going to be a completely different side story that has nothing to do with the main plot. Judging from the screenshots and the short clip from the Official Site, there is at least one battle and it will be between the Impact Blue Sil-80 and a dark Altezza RS200. Extra Stage 2 will have much better graphics than the first Extra Stage and we will see some familiar faces. (Hint: Iketani-senpai, Takumi.. etc.)

Unlike the first Extra Stage, this one is actually based on a manga side story that was released by Shigeno back in 2001. It takes place canonically while Project D is facing off against the Todou Juku.

This is great news

I've been looking forward to seeing some sort of new Initial D animation. It's not Fifth Stage, but hey..this could be quite epic too since I really thought the Iketani x Mako situation could have been great if it went somewhere, but all it left us with is tears and a sad faced S13 driver

Been a while.. No subbed version yet? I'm growing concern..

Lack of interest is probably the reason you're not seeing subs. A lot of us have seen the raw already, and there honestly isn't much to get out of it. I watched it twice and deleted it.

Not to mention the raw was ugly and the wrong aspect ratio. Ugh.

Maybe when the DVD comes out there'll be more interest.

Who is this "they" you're speaking of? I don't recall anybody in any fansub group saying they were waiting to work on this.

it wont be subbed for a while, with all animes getting licensed and stuff, so wait about 2-3 weeks to get it, if ur lucky u can get it earlier.

This is really horrible, Stage 4 came out years ago and it still hasn't been released on dvd here in the US. Now imagine when Stage 5 is going to come out? I swear, I have to learn Japanese, just imagine of all the anime we are missing out, just because of the delay of subs? Don't get me wrong, I highly respect the people that sacrifice their time to sub anime for us.

Spoilers? Maybe. Just my opinions having watched the S-Subs.

that is the single most depressing episode ever.
Wow...I really felt bad after watching it. There wasn't a good battle in there. I think they should have filled Stage 4 with that nonsense instead of making an episode about it that's so dang sad.
There is a romantic notion about it but in the end...I feel for the lonely drivers.

The storyline really needs to mature and develop further. They killed that idea with this Extra Stage. It's fun to watch new 3-D models of new cars, new characters from different prefectures and race with new strategies but without other storylines....like a brewing romance or a new hobby or tuning up a car to be the ultimate ride...it gets overly repetitive and boring.

Having followed ID since it's inception from manga to the very first Anime....tis sad but I have to admit I see a limited future for this story. At least if Stage 5 ever takes root.

just thought i'd give my 2 cents

EDIT: to watch it (since it's in .mkv format) you must have VLC Media player-it's free-and make sure when you open the file THROUGH the program first, go to Audio>Audio Device>Stereo, or else you wont here the japanese audio, and believe me, it took me half way through the movie before figuring this out
