Once again, thank you Kenstar. That makes a lot more sense! Yeah I need to go through the show again when I have the time and probably pick up the novels too.

You do not want to touch the manga(s) (I believe there are several) as it feel like its just briefly following the anime and skipping some parts. The anime was adapted directly from the light novels as opposed to being from the manga. The manga art is nothing like the light novels and anime art style as well (it looks shoujo-ish). Maybe some may like it but its the first time I feel like not touching a manga of an anime I like (its normally reverse for me). Instead, I suggest you read the light novels (links are a few posts and pages back). There are art clips in it to at least give you some visual representation of places, characters, etc.

SAO is not a manga, it's a light novel. You know, text. That you read. Pretty sure it's already been translated though, so that's kind of a moot point...

I don't know how to feel. I mean I want to give this a chance but at the same time I have to wonder, why does it sound like everyone is whispering instead of talking normally?

I still don't understand the appeal of this anime. I know it's probably been said thousands of times already, but when I attempted to watch it, I kept asking myself why I wasn't watching .Hack.

Because it's easier to digest than .hack. SAO has clear-cut interpersonal relationships and a straightforward plot.

.hack has gender confusion, identity crises and a plot that makes you wonder if maybe you missed an episode or two here and there. It requires you to use your brain.

Hilariously, though, the music for both shows is composed by the same person...duhuhu. awesome.gif

This. This this THIS.

I didn't really enjoy SAO either, in fact its kinda been in the butt of my jokes every time I'm playing a MMO with my buddies recently. There wasn't a lot of things I liked about SAO, though I never felt like I wasted my time watching it. There's a charm to the show, I'll give it that much.

But I do understand why it's so popular and with that said, I agree 100% with Don's statement. I personally treat it as a 'gateway' anime, whether or not it's a good gateway anime is entirely subjective. cool.gif

You mean a third season, and if I recall correctly it was already confirmed that it was getting one.
