First stage arc was written way back in 1995, when smoking was still relatively prevalent among young guys, especially the hashiriya crowd.

Nowadays however you notice that except for Bunta the rest are not shown lighting up, reflect the societal changes in Japan, especially with the clampdown on underage smoking

The only smoking going on is being blown by Shigeno, passing it off as "exciting manga".

in fact, Ryousuke does not smoke, never smoking appeared in the manga, just keisuke.

only in the anime, he appears three times: in memory of Mako; after talking on the phone with keisuke, during the race between Takumi and kenta and speaking with Nakazato is on Akina, while training after the defeat of keisuke.

Another question then. At this point in the manga, (before Takumi's AE86 vs Shinn's AE86) has Ryosuke been accepted into medical school? If so, what is the name of the university and how long has he been attending? I vaguely remember one of the characters talking about it in Third or Fourth Stage, but I forget.

Ryosuke vaguely mentions having about a year left before he has to move away from Gunma in Third Stage (manga chapter 147). After Takumi's rematch with Kyoichi, Keisuke pops up and also mentions the one year time limit, although nothing specifically says that Ryosuke is going to medical school.

As for later references, I haven't spotted them yet. The manga is vast, so finding these things could take time.

Ryousuke has been going to medical school the entire time.

The manga specifically says he goes to the medical school at Gunma University in Maebashi.

He had a year left before he had to go become a doctor. Medical interns have ZERO free time.

Now he only has a few more months before the first snow. But unless this is the last race of Project D, I imagine Shigeno could drag it out for another few years since it's not apparent what season or month they're currently in.

ryosuke isn't an ordinary medical student. He doesn't need to do part time job.
With power of money and connection of his family in medical world he could do it with project d activities.

Do you even know what a medical intern is?

Just a question since I haven't followed the manga, has there been any mention of a red Kouki S14? Seems he was a real challenge for Ryosuke before forming the Red Suns.

Where did you hear about this? I don't think Ryousuke or any other character's ever specifically mentioned him having trouble with an S14.

Anyone else seen any mention of Ryousuke racing a red S14 in the manga or anime?

More surprising for me is the fact that Ryosuke had trouble with a challenger at all. Being number one on the RedSuns should mean that he is nearly god tier in racing.

Ok, seriously speaking now. I don't remember ever reading about a red Kouki S14 in the manga. But I'm sure that if they mentioned it they would have somewhere in the beginning of the manga where they introduced the Takahashi Brothers and the RedSuns.

Okay, it wasn't mentioned in the Manga/Anime, but it's seriously implied if you play as a red S14 (2nd) on IDAS3. Everybody has something to say about it, that never happened to me with my FC.

Does this only happen if you pick a red S14? What about other colours?

Didn't try with different colors, but I had used the GC8 before, and that dialogue didn't appear.

Still don't know what's up with that.

So, what do the characters say exactly? Anything that stands out as implying Ryousuke had raced the S14 back when he was starting out?

K.T. mistook me for the guy his brother used to race all the time before Red Suns. Nakazato mistook me for another S14 that he had raced when he first got his 32.

Well, that's interesting.

I'm guessing that was just something made up for IDAS3 to further involve your character in the plot. And maybe the person who wrote up those lines got tired of doing so afterwards, so you didn't see something like this when driving other cars.

Or maybe the writer for those lines owned a red S14 / knew someone with a red S14 / saw a cool looking red S14 once.

Jeez, I can't believe you guys don't know who drives a red S14. It's Kenta.

...though that doesn't explain the whole "challenge" thing. Ryosuke would wipe the floor with him.

But Kenta's S14 is orange

And I doubt Ryousuke raced him all the time before forming the Red Suns.

Plus Kenta's was a zenki, while I was using a kouki.

Kyon, if it was that obvious, why would the dialogue be written like that?

Besides, what the two posts above mine said: orange, zenki S14.

Actually, if you play him in Arcade Stage (at least version 3) it's red, not orange. I think it's also this way in the manga, if I'm not mistaken. Again, I'm not saying this is possible, because he wouldn't have been a match for Ryosuke (or anyone really) anyway. Plus like Atrum said, he had a zenki, not a kouki.
