fyi, either the links to the youtube streaming is reversed or it is named wrong |

Great episodes , thanks , but i think there is too much Drift in the anime that wasn't in the manga , i mean i understand that they have to drift in harpins and that narrow corner when they was side by side , but drifting nearly the entire race is unrealistic considering the level they reached now. |
Posted by: Perry Dec 14 2012, 09:48 AM
Yeah, was in a rush. Fixing it now. Fixed. |

something else which isn't really a spoiler since it happend since Stage 4 in the Project D convoy Keisuke FD is always the leading car infront of Takumi and the support vans does perhaps mean the Keisuke has a higher status |
Posted by: Ahmed1993 Dec 14 2012, 09:56 AM |
Simply , Keisuke >Takumi |

At the rate the anime is going, it might finish before the manga.
But seriously.. I don't see this going to 24 episodes like 4th Stage. |

soo.... did they fire a bunch of artist? or something? i think we should merge threads like episode's 1,2,3,4 so on and so on because at this rate it will completely fill the pinned section. |

As old episodes depreciate, the pinned thread will be unpinned. It worked the exact same way when Fourth Stage aired, and worked the same way on WME when Wangan Midnight was airing. This is no different. |

Posted by: RyuHayabusa Dec 14 2012, 04:40 PM
yeah, i was thinking the same thing. but well it's an anime... that's the only explanation for this that i've got, although the car animation was a bit more realistic during the 4th stage end, where takumi was driving against god hand. if i remember correctly, he was driving grip style and didn't drift that much, only in hairpins and i think makes sense to drift there, because of the loss of traction from elevation |

|
Posted by: Ahmed1993 Dec 15 2012, 02:16 AM
I've watched that race nearly ten time and i can assure you that he only grip racing two or three corner , and he drifted the entire race, which is again completely different from the manga. |
Posted by: Tessou Dec 15 2012, 03:30 AM
Pffff even Takumi admitted it in Fourth Stage. He thinks Keisuke would beat him in a race if they faced off again. |
Posted by: Ahmed1993 Dec 15 2012, 03:47 AM |
No , he said he would lost on uphill cause the FD is more powerful than the 86 and he said that's Keisuke became NEARLY as fast as him in downhill |
Posted by: Tessou Dec 15 2012, 04:16 AM |
That's not the line I read/heard. While watching Keisuke train, Takumi mentioned: "If we were to race right now, I think he would probably be better than me." No stipulation of downhill/uphill. |

Episode 3 translated to English. The youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TryrxA4YhNI will now have the English CC subtitle. I didn't do a good job on this one. It only took me two hours so the translation is very rough. I didn't have time to check for accuracy either. If someone wants to step up and convert it to .srt and refine it, please feel free to do so! I think it'll be 24~ish episodes. The thing they're doing here is apparently trying to end the races with this particular team quickly by trowing viewers nothing but action to get them interested. Because come on. Who really cares about the races with this team? Are they really that interesting? I think not. They're being relatively good with the material by cutting the fat and keeping the races quick and to the point. Or do we WANT these throwaway battles lasting two episodes each? That would mean the races towards the end of the season would get squashed for time. |

|
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Dec 15 2012, 10:30 AM
Well I agree with you on that. It's just the little things they cut out that bugs me. The stuff that actually gets you away from all the racing. and can someone refresh my memory

More accurate:
|
Posted by: RyuHayabusa Dec 15 2012, 11:52 AM
the thing that bothers me most is that
but i can't really complain. i mean if the animation studio really has a low budget then i think they are doing a good job telling the story while being efficient. to me, the 5th stage kinda is like a miracle, considering that the anime industry in general isn't doing very well lately. and initial d is targetted at a niche audience |

I stopped really caring for the story/etc. of the show, it's just getting odd. I want more random car races like the s15 drivers in 4th (I think?), so I can hearz me moarz eurobeatz! |

Just wait for the inevitable Battle Stage 3, then. Those are always entertaining and completely devoid of plot. |

Thank you in advanced, spec-al!! Loved your release for Episode 2. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Dec 15 2012, 09:36 PM
Well, technically, if it hasn't already been ripped in 720p, we won't ever see an HD version until such a day comes when Blu-rays are released (which as of right now is never.) I assume what you really mean is not "ripped", but rather "uploaded". |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 15 2012, 09:40 PM |
If the 720 were out, it would be on Nyaatorrents. Well actually it would be on Share but who uses that anymore? |
Posted by: Cyinide Dec 15 2012, 10:41 PM |
A good recommendation I have in order to avoid getting shut down like what happened in Episodes 1 and 2 is to actually hide your video. That way, the only people who see the video are people who actually have a link to it. Just a suggestion. I'd hate to see this get taken off of YouTube. |
Posted by: case Dec 15 2012, 11:45 PM |
It's already like that. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 15 2012, 11:59 PM |
Not to mention setting it as unlisted doesn't actually do anything. The robots will still crawl it. It'll still get googled (thanks to this very page). It'll still end up as a search result. If it gets taken down it gets taken down. That's not going to be stopped just by setting a video to unlisted. |
Posted by: Perry Dec 16 2012, 12:05 AM
Indeed. If it taken down it gets taken down. The purpose of lighten the server load was accomplished long before they gets taken down though. |

This translation took 6 hours, but I am happy with the result. Posted by: Banken Dec 16 2012, 05:07 AM
I think
It's never good when they take away good scenes, but sometimes they simply have to cut stuff to fit a whole volume's worth of manga into one 24-minute episode. The solution? Read the manga before you watch the anime, or read the manga after you watch the anime. Either way adds a lot to the experience. |

Posted by: Xellos Dec 16 2012, 06:49 AM |
I'm not sure how to say this without being rude. So here goes, these translations are very accurate at times, and very inaccurate in other times. It's rather an odd translation. |
Posted by: Tessou Dec 16 2012, 07:56 AM |
You have to understand that Perry is taking Chinese subtitles and translating them. There is no guarantee of accuracy here. He takes no offense if you're pointing out inaccurate translations, since this has been translated twice. I haven't spotted any grave mistakes so far. There's enough to understand the scene, and that's really all you can ask for literally one day after the episode aired. |
Posted by: Silfa Dec 16 2012, 08:40 AM |
Quick off the topic, looks like Sage Subs doesn't exist anymore or they forgot to paid their bill. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 16 2012, 08:53 AM
Sage does not rely on their blog to sub and upload subbed releases. As long as Nyaatorrents exists, there will be subs. However, they are waiting for proper raws to show up before doing anything. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Dec 16 2012, 09:13 AM
But you wouldn't know what's a grave mistake unless you know Japanese. I don't either, so I don't know how accurate Pear's subs are, but I bet they're great, considering it's translated twice. |

Posted by: Tessou Dec 16 2012, 09:56 AM
I'm talking about horrid English grammatical mistakes, not translation errors. Perry doesn't read or speak Japanese. He understands Chinese, which is where he pulled his subtitles from. He translated them himself for all of IDW to enjoy. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Dec 16 2012, 10:08 AM
Oh, okay. Yeah, that doesn't matter as much, in my opinion. Well, not unless it's something like this. |
Posted by: Burtonik Dec 16 2012, 11:31 AM |
Well, there goes another month of waiting for episode 5 & 6 |
Posted by: Xellos Dec 16 2012, 11:56 AM
I see, well then that makes more sense. I appreciate the 10 hours he put into the world, my girlfriend was able to watch it with no issues. I appreciate the hard work. |
Posted by: Perry Dec 16 2012, 12:13 PM |
Hello, Xellos! Do you want to contribute by correcting some of the errors you see? Not trying to put you under the spotlight or anything, I just want to get the best stuff out there for all the Initial D fans. I did my best on translating the Chinese subtitles to English. I suppose when they translate it from Japanese to Chinese, someone messed up. But it can't be help, the Chinese subtitles came out within 24 hours, it was probably rushed... I think Episode 3's translation needs major revision though. It just doesn't flow at all. |

Posted by: RyuHayabusa Dec 16 2012, 09:33 PM
well the thing that bothered me most, was when Ryosuke was talking about Mazda cars' characteristic of car being lower at front than tail. i can clearly hear him saying "matsuda" (Mazda), but it is translated "The last segment of curved section". also i got the impression like he was talking about roadsters in general, while in reality he was talking about THE Mazda Mx5 Roadster. |
Posted by: Perry Dec 16 2012, 09:56 PM
Thank you very much once again, theice9!! Your hard work is much appreciated.
Yeah... I know what you mean. I think half of that translation didn't make much sense. It's okay for casual viewing and it gives you a very rough idea of what's going on. If we need in-depth understanding of the story line, we are going to need someone with native understanding of the language and translate it directly from that. Here's to hope the 720p raw will get released soon, so fansub groups like sagesubs will get on it |

He wasn't talking about the front being lower than the tail (almost all sports cars are like that), he was talking about the suspension geometry of the NA8C, which has a multi-link rear suspension (the previous Roadster had been double wishbone). You can easily adjust ride height with springs, but you can't change the suspension geometry without spending a lot of money. What he said was basically that the suspension is designed to let the car dive a lot under braking, which gives you good front grip so the car turns, but it comes at the cost of a tendency to oversteer (usually not a big deal since the Roadster isn't a very fast car and is designed more for fun than lap times). The reason why Omiya had the big rear wing was as a way to counter the oversteer. As Ryosuke stated, there are multiple ways to deal with it, but without changing the suspension geometry itself there is no way to fully cure the oversteer tendency.

I registered here to correct this post lol All the MX-5's up to 2005 (so the NA and NB) have double wishbone suspension front and back. Only the NC has a multilink on the rear. The yellow car is an NB, so has double wishbone front and rear (mx-5 turbo owner/enthousiast here ) Of course, it's possible that the guys of ID got it wrong, I don't want to bash you nor your translation skills. I don't know a word Japanese, so I'm just going by your post. On topic: I hope the subbed 720p is here quick, it's so tempting to watch the lower quality version, but ID deserves better! |

Anyone think that the OST around 17:53 on episode 4 is just brilliant? It sounds absolutely amazing and so fitting. I wish they will make an OST release because Fifth Stage's one seems to be extraordinaire compared to Fourth Stage |

They exaggerated it a little too much. At best it would just be the car pulling away faster than you would expect given it's power. Of course, there's only so much traction you can get out of a live axle and (relatively) skinny street tires, no matter how good you are... although there are a few mods that can be done to increase the traction of the AE86 by using full-length panhard rods, it involves some MAJOR surgery and requires you to remove the rear seats, which Takumi doesn't seem to have done (ironically, since a roll cage now means he can only legally carry one passenger). |

Bunta was probably more than happy at that time, considering the choice of car he had for the day. Old habits die hard. REGARDING HQ (HD) EPISODE AVAILABILITY I will be adding an addendum to the "don't ask for subs yet" rule for these threads that includes asking for the HD episodes, because it's straight up fucking annoying. N1 should not have to constantly repeat himself about it in various tones escalating from slightly miffed to murderous rage. If the HD episodes become available, we will have them here, and there will be an announcement made. Until then, stop asking when they will be on the internet. I will send forth my mods of war, and you will spend the rest of your existence with a note on your account that you have problems with reading comprehension. |

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 20 2012, 07:25 PM |
If 720 raws aren't posted it'll be the first time that PPV raws were not ripped in decent quality. Fourth Stage and Wangan Midnight were both PPV and both got raws each month. If that trend changes I'll be shocked. So we'll see. Personally I've been saying all along that it's gonna take a while... so the impatient ones can go enjoy their 40MB raws and double-translated subs while I sit back and enjoy other aspects of life waiting on something proper. Might I suggest that others do the same and find something else to do with their lives than complain about Fifth Stage raws/subs on the internet? |

sage subs finally got their site back up. They have no intention to release the subs using the 360p raw. So if the 720p raw never comes out, they'll never sub it.. I wonder if they would release the soft subs at least if the 720p still doesn't come out by the time Ep. 5 & 6 air. |

All of this prattle about the HD raws/subs is really making me want to send coal to the internet as a whole. Can nobody seriously be happy with what they already have? Back in my day, we were ecstatic when the signals came in from our old VHF/UHF antenna. Yes, the one that required the two prong transformer just to connect to the television. I remember taping shows on EP/SLP mode on my VCR so I could cram many hours of anime onto a single cassette, and you know what? I LOVED IT. I didn't care about video quality because I was getting good entertainment out of it regardless. Be happy with what you have, instead of stewing about what you don't. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 25 2012, 06:29 AM
That's great, sweetheart. In case you weren't aware it's almost 2013 and we're not using 15" CRTs anymore. Your average TV displays things at 1920x1080 pixels, not 512 scanlines. Your typical broadcast is now 720p and even those over-the-air signals you profess your love for are fully digital and HD-capable. So why, exactly, is it wrong to expect a decent raw? Why, exactly, is it wrong for a sub group to wait for decent raws before releasing? If you really don't care about the quality then as Perry mentioned Central-Anime is ready and raring to cater to those with less...discrimination. As I said those guys were around since subbing laserdiscs was a thing, so it's like Fourth Stage all over again! |
Posted by: Tessou Dec 25 2012, 07:02 AM |
I had no idea that 480p was indecent quality, considering digital programming is at that standard in this Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twelve. The message I was conveying is that you should be happy with what is available instead of bickering about what isn't. The response I get firsthand is more bickering. Way to go, IDW. You're giving me my answer already. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 25 2012, 07:32 AM |
Yep, we're all ungrateful bastards who just can't deal with a 40MB 360p (is it progressive? I haven't watched it so I don't know if it has interlacing artifacts) when the show was broadcast in 720p and we watch broadcast series in 720p on a regular basis. Is there a problem with that? I say again--this is 2012, about to be 2013. I can have my fill of plenty of other series right now that are broadcast in glorious HD and the biggest problem you'll run into are high-contrast scenes dimming (such as beam rifle shots in Gundam shows which are notorious for dimming). For the vast majority of shows today, broadcast quality is pretty much bluray quality. So why, in 2013, is Initial D in such a sorry state? Why can't we complain about a lack of 720p caps? Why can't we complain about OB Planning not bothering to release blurays for a show that was obviously mastered in HD to begin with? I understand the whole 'shut up and take what's given to you for free you ungrateful scrub' point of view, sure... but there's a certain minimum level of quality that's to be expected in this day and age. Missing that target is bound to ruffle feathers. I'm at least trying to convey why that is for those of us who care (and those of you who don't understand our point of view). |

Posted by: poisonfruitloops Dec 25 2012, 08:32 AM |

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 25 2012, 12:41 PM
DVDs are 720x480 (NTSC). They are then either squeezed to 640x480 (4:3, or letterboxed like Fourth Stage was ugh) or stretched to 853x480 (16:9 like any modern DVD). The p/i depends on whether the content was encoded progressively (p) or interlaced (i). Many DVDs are interlaced, especially older ones. Blurays allow for any resolution up to and including 1080p, and I haven't seen a bluray with interlaced features (though spec-wise there's no reason why they can't, it's just that no one does because there's no point). I have blurays for Star Trek TNG that have 1080p main content and 480p special features (for instance, special features from the old DVD release). The resolution for a bluray depends on what resolution the show was mastered in, but you'll get all sorts of silliness. For instance, shows that were clearly mastered for 720p being released in 1080 (cough cough steins;gate...). In most cases though companies will release content in the resolution it was mastered, so between 480p, 720p and 1080p. Hopefully that's enough explanation. |
Posted by: Perry Dec 25 2012, 02:15 PM |
My question is, does the existence of a 360p raw implies it was re-encoded from the original 720p HD raw? I am asking because I am not sure how people do the capping. Can they directly cap something that's broadcasted in HD to a 360p rip and let the program does the re-encoding "on-the-fly" ? Or does the capping always result in whatever resolution it was broadcasted in? If the answer to the very first question is a yes, then I will be happy knowing that raw will surface some time in the future. I think at least half of the fans have seen the LQ raw, so that's why you don't see that much commotion. For the most part, people are actually patiently waiting for it! |
Posted by: ItBMD Dec 25 2012, 03:01 PM |
I think I see both sides of the fence on this one. Each point seems to be valid. We should be happy with content we are getting for free, but at the same time, in this day and age, they should really be able to deliver better than 360/480p 2 weeks after the release. I am patiently waiting. In fact this is the first time I am posting in this thread. What I'm more curious about is why don't they offer us an opportunity to PURCHASE it? I understand it's on a specific Japenese PPV channel. Which makes perfect sense. But why not then sub it yourself and charge a viewership fee to download or rent the episode. Would that not make sense? Well, I'll go back to (not so) patiently waiting now... |
Posted by: Perry Dec 25 2012, 03:05 PM
I don't think they are even considering oversea fans as their primary target viewers. They really should, because all of the fans outside of Japan add together will generate much more revenue for them. If they don't have the fund to do advertising, then they can think outside the box, use fansites / social platform to advertise for them. Those are usually cheap and with exclusive information, some fansites would even do it for free. But then again, I doubt they would do that. |
Posted by: Lebon14 Dec 26 2012, 08:17 AM |
I looked at Tokyotosho to see new raw in 480p but, thanks to you guys, I discovered that it was complete BS. I'm still waiting for a decent broadcast myself and I have the same opinion as N1. If it was 2003-2004, 40MB raw+sub would be good but we're 2012 almost 2013... most broadcast are in 720p. Why can't we get a decent RAW for ID in this day and age? I understand that it was aired on PPV but still... EP1 and 2 didn't take that long and the raws were pretty good. Also, I'll be keeping an eye on Perfect Dark (the P2P, not the game haha) in case if a decent RAW surfaces. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Dec 26 2012, 09:38 AM
Man, it seems like no one involved with the production of Initial D in Japan seems to know what they're doing, marketing-wise. After over 20 years, Avex still isn't releasing Super Eurobeat ANYWHERE outside Japan (though they have expressed an interest otherwise, recently) and the animation studios, ever since First Stage, seem to have always had a rabid aversion to putting Initial D out internationally (I don't really count licensing it out to Tokyopop and Funimation since it doesn't require much work for them to do so). It's like xenophobia overdrive, I swear. |
Posted by: Sappo Dec 26 2012, 11:45 AM |
At this point I believe that there are no 720p raws out there. Are they planning to broadcast these episodes again ? |
Posted by: Perry Dec 26 2012, 12:26 PM
As a matter of fact, yes. http://www.perfectchoice-pr.com/program/page/000138.html
They just finished the primary airing schedule, which was from the 14th to 20th. That was when they broadcast 17 times per day for both episodes. They stopped for the Christmas break but will start broadcasting again on the 29th.. I agree with you though, there are plenty of chances to cap it, so if we still don't see it by now, the person/people that brought us the EP2 HD raw either got arrested, just gave up voluntarily, or just don't want to share it this time for reasons only known to them. |
Posted by: Tessou Dec 26 2012, 12:32 PM
There's no market for it here that would make anywhere near enough money to satisfy stockholders, so it won't happen. Eurobeat is great and all, but the sad fact is that the amount of potential buyers in the US is probably less than 10,000. The majority of fans typically download it here at no cost, and leave the actual money spending to the few that care enough to, myself included. It's a market that has no future in the US. |
Posted by: Vortrex Dec 26 2012, 12:35 PM |
Wow, that's some interesting info... I just found this site: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2048728646 What are they talking about??? |
Posted by: kyonpalm Dec 26 2012, 12:40 PM
I mean digitally. There's no reason they can't sell this stuff internationally. It literally costs no money for them to put all of Super Eurobeat up for international digital sale. Literally, not one yen. Why don't they do that? It confuses me so much. There is not one reason they can't do that, so why aren't they? The same goes for Initial D anime. They can put that on iTunes as well. Seriously, they even PULLED eurobeat off of iTunes international and made it Japan-only once. Then they blame their loss in revenue on piracy. They're shooting themselves in the foot and then claiming someone else shot them. I honestly think they're insane, or ridiculously xenophobic, or both. |
Posted by: Tessou Dec 26 2012, 12:50 PM |
I'd go for a more traditional evil corporation angle, then. I thought you were talking about physical sales. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Dec 26 2012, 01:07 PM
Well, if you want to talk about physical sales, there's no reason they can't market it physically, either. You mentioned that they might sell -10,000 copies in the U.S., right? Well, why not press around 5,000 copies for international distribution (just in case they don't even sell 10,000)? That should be completely feasible, especially for a large company like Avex. Hell, even small, independent record labels can press 1,000 and get their product sold no problem. So making and selling another 5,000 copies for international sale is a pretty decent profit, still. Assuming they sell each CD for $15, that's $75,000. Subtract however much it cost to manufacture them, how much the stores that sold them take and then royalties and you still have a pretty nice profit. |
Posted by: Lebon14 Dec 26 2012, 11:58 PM
I agree with you here Kyon. There's ABSOLUTELY nothing in the way of Avex of pressing such amount to be released internationally. I'll be a guaranteed buyer each month if they sell it 15$. Back on ID, if I don't watch it because there are no decent RAWs coming out, at least, I'll have the new eurobeatz coming out at least. |

he means the shitty ones already mentioned despite being almost 20 times bigger than the youtube ones it looks even worse and you have the "lines" issue |

Posted by: Tofuboi Dec 29 2012, 03:12 PM |
I'll be honest. I'm happy to get what I'm given. Whether it is 360p or 720p+. Of course 720p RAWs (and eventually subbed episodes) would be great. But I'm not going to worry about it if they don't eventuate for a while. I'm just happy Initial D is still going after all these years. 360p with the ID subs were fine for the most part. Understanding the gist of it. |

Yup, same ones as these: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=386091 | http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=386106 They are upscale from the 40mb 360p raws, complete garbage unfortunately. I just don't understand what's the point to make them so big in size. I mean come on, 780MB?? What were they thinking?? (Maybe they weren't.. ) It's like re-encoding a 24kbps mp3 to 320kbps. Thanks for sharing, anyways. |

Great episodes, liking them so far. And I think I'm beginning to like Hojo and the Sidewinders a lot too. |

i tried them last after i posted the links (i thought might be a better quality one due to file size) and yep, they are the same - like you say i don't know why/how the need to be 780mb when you get the same one for 50mb?? |

Got two personal copyright claims on episode 3 and 4 that I uploaded to youtube... Wondering if this is a troll personal copyright or if actual copyright due to the lack of everything... Claimant: 株式会社 ウェッジリンク Representative: 中村雅一 Claimant Email: kazu1962@gmail.com Work allegedly infringed: Video not from YouTube: "頭文字[イニシャル]D Fifth Stage" |
Posted by: hackgrid Dec 30 2012, 09:01 AM |
Well, you sure don't own the copyright, so it is valid no matter what |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 30 2012, 11:49 AM
This. But also that's from Wedge Link so yes, it's doubly valid. |
Posted by: Perry Dec 30 2012, 02:01 PM
Actually, according to DMCA, only copyright owner and legal representatives of said material can file copyright infringement claims. So no, not everyone can file a copyright infringement claim and not every claims are valid just because you don't own the copyright. Basically, there is no such thing as "civilian arrest" in the digital world, yet. You can tip the copyright owners, but you can't make the "arrest" yourself if you don't own it as well. But of course, if you are not the copyright owner of the material, you have no rights. In this case, it's clearly the copyright owner filing the claim. So suck it up and move on. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 30 2012, 02:04 PM
That may be true, but in filing a counter-claim against the entity that filed the original claim you are therefore claiming that you hold the copyright. Since that is not the case, it hardly matters who filed the original claim. |
Posted by: Perry Dec 30 2012, 02:40 PM
No one is saying anything about filing a counter notification. Weren't we talking about the validity of the initial copyright infringement claim? Legally, filing a false copyright infringement claim, even if you have good intention, is nevertheless still fraud... But in the end, like you said, if one doesn't have the copyright of the said material, there is no ground to fight back. I hope you understand we are talking about the technicality of the act of filing a copyright infringement claim. I am not arguing over the fact that it's stupid to complain about having videos that you don't own removed. I know all these, well.. because I have to. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 30 2012, 03:14 PM |
Right, but the question was in the context of someone who did not hold the copyright asking us if the claim filed against his content was legitimate. My response is that it does no matter because as someone who uploaded it illegally you have no legal recourse. |

Episode 3 ~ 4 subbed by Central Anime is out, here's the link: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=388655 Will update the first post now... Edit: First post updated. Awaiting for mp4 re-encode now. |
Posted by: Perry Jan 1 2013, 04:07 AM |
Central Anime's re-encode looks great! I just finished watching both 3 & 4 and I have nothing to complain about. It would be nice if someone with fast upload speed can upload the episodes individually on free hosting because some people can't download via torrents. The accuracy of the translation is on par with sagesubs. Though, I wish they didn't use the yellow font... but it's easy to fix since it's a mkv container. |

Episode 3: https://finaldistance.net/Initial%20D%20Fifth%20Stage/Initial%20D%20Fifth%20Stage%20-%2003%20(Central%20Anime)%5bDE5C88AD%5d.ass Episode 4: https://finaldistance.net/Initial%20D%20Fifth%20Stage/Initial%20D%20Fifth%20Stage%20-%2004%20(Central%20Anime)%5bFB4CCC32%5d.ass Feel free to convert it to .srt or youtube format, make sure you credit Central Anime when doing any derivative work based on their subs. Thanks! If you do convert the .ass files to another format, be sure to post them up here, so I can add it to the first post. |

That is probably because they starting subbing from stage1 onwards (from when first stage was first released) that.s how long they have been around. |

The ass sub for episode 3 doesnt work for me |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 1 2013, 02:34 PM
Sadly this doesn't tell us much. How are you attempting to use it? What media player? Did you try muxing it into an existing raw? Are you using it externally? Is it a font problem? Is it a sync problem? Is the file not downloading? You really need to be a heck of a lot more specific with your problem if you expect anyone to be able to help you. Life lessons here, kids. |

At this point, it's better than nothing. It's obvious that there won't be any 720p releases any time soon, if at all. |
Posted by: Perry Jan 2 2013, 10:18 PM |
Direct download links added. To Donz0rz, will you do the mp4 re-encoding for Central Anime's files or will you do that only for 720p subs? |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 2 2013, 10:22 PM
They'll be the same res as the input--so 480p instead of 720p--but I don't see why I couldn't. I'm currently reencoding the blurays of Madoka for my sister but once that's done I'll do C-A's ep3 and ep4 for ya. |

Thanks for uploading these to DDL! I couldn't find a non-torrent source of the original mkvs anywhere else
Have you tried VLC? It plays everything I can chuck at it, even vorbis audio |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 3 2013, 08:53 PM
Your MPC is incorrectly configured...though I'm not sure which files you were trying to play. The subtitle files Perry uploaded were just subtitles--not video or audio. If you tried to play those you're silly! But if your MPC can't play MP4s...then something is seriously wrong with your media configuration and it's time to start over. Might I suggest the following guide? http://imouto.my/watching-h264-videos-usin...hitecture-cuda/ |
Posted by: Kelvin Jan 3 2013, 10:27 PM
The MKV is not ticked on my work PC's MPC. I tried it at home just now and it works.
I can differentiate them. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 4 2013, 01:59 AM
I'm going to guess that what you meant here was that you didn't have a Matroska splitter (MPC Internal, Haali, LAV, etc) enabled and were trying to play the original Central-Anime MKV release rather than use Perry's sub or my hardsubbed MP4s. Would that be a correct assumption? |
Posted by: Perry Jan 4 2013, 02:06 AM |
I just tried to play C-A's MKV with Media Player Classic, no need to tick anything, it plays right off the bat. One thing is weird though, when I save a screenshot with MPC, it doesn't include the subtitles with the image. That's actually nice when you have to take some clean screencaps without the text. VLC on the other hand, saves everything as you see it. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 4 2013, 02:56 AM
I can explain both of these phenomena to you. On the topic of MPC, your setup was likely default--which has all internal splitters and filters activated. However, custom setups may have some or all of these unticked for use with external splitters and filters. This is fine--mine is set up this way--unless of course you forget that you don't have an external splitter configured. Then you run into an inability to play the file. You can test this by unticking the Matroska Splitter in MPC without Haali, LAV or the like installed. It will fail to play. MPC including or not including subtitles with the screenshot--and likewise, VLC always including them--is a factor of where in the rendering chain the subtitles are rendered and where in the rendering chain the screenshot is taken from. With a default MPC installation the subtitles are added at the end of the render chain and the screenshot is taken from the video render engine itself--before the subtitles are rendered on top of the layer. I believe there is a way to change this but I do not remember what it was. I have since switched my video renderer to madVR which is not supported by MPC's internal screenshot function. I take screenshots either with VLC or by using ALT+PRINTSCREEN (both of which will catch the subtitles). With VLC, the screenshot function saves the final output frame from the render engine after all filters--subtitles, deinterlacing, etc--have been applied. So what you see is what you get. |

Omg I can't believe Initial D is back!!! |
Posted by: Kelvin Jan 4 2013, 04:17 PM
Matroska is not ticked in options/internal filters/source filters. That is why I am not able to play. Yes I was trying to play the 390mb mkv file. It's fixed now. |

Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 7 2013, 01:21 AM
Fun thing! I just updated my MPC-HC to the latest official build (yes yes I should be using nightlies or custom builds because I'm so bleeding-edge but bite me) and some wonderful things happened. For one, the current official build supports screenshots while using madVR as the output renderer, something that wasn't supported in 1.6.4. I immediately moved on to see if they had fixed the subtitle placement bug that had plagued MPC-HC forever (playing 16:9 softsubbed material on a 16:10 monitor would cause subtitle placement to be incorrect) and sure enough, they fixed the placement! ...Unfortunately they broke the ability of softsubs to create solid colors, for instance to cover up and replace on-screen text. Which results in this: Smoked Cheese スモークチーズ So after messing with various settings and finding that none of them solved the problem I went back to using xy-vsfilter in the render chain. Not only does it render the subtitles correctly as it always has but I had one other surprise waiting for me. If you use xy-vsfilter for subtitles instead of the internal renderer you get this lovely tidbit when you use MPC-HC's screenshot function: Please fasten your seatbelt Note that that's a white square covering up Japanese text with English text superimposed on top. Yes, that's right--by using an external subtitle renderer in the render chain, the screenshot function will output subtitles! xy-vsfilter: 2 internal renderer: 0 |

Wow, that's some very nice attention to details subbing. I wish sub groups like that can sub Initial D. That'd be soooo awesome. |

why for ep 3 and 4 no 720p version? |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 7 2013, 11:48 AM
Because no one capped the HD stream and uploaded it. The only raw was a barely 480p one which some groups foolishly decided to upscale. Sage said they wouldn't sub unless a proper 720p raw comes out or, worst case, the episodes are released on home video. Sadly it looks like Fifth Stage will not be getting a bluray release, only DVD. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: Cyinide Jan 7 2013, 11:55 AM |
Ah jeeze, guess I'll have to torrent the Fifth Stage Episodes from now on. Looks like somebody cracked down and removed EVERY Fifth Stage episode on YouTube. There isn't a single one on there anymore, from any users. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Jan 7 2013, 12:35 PM
>streaming Though to be fair, the shitty raws we have at the moment aren't much better anyway. Also, Don, never say never. We may get a Blu-ray re-release in the future. Maybe not for a while, but I'm sure it'll happen. |
Posted by: Perry Jan 7 2013, 12:40 PM |
It seems clear there won't be any 720p raw for 3 & 4 before 5 & 6 comes out. So it's safe to say whoever did the 1 & 2 HD cap will not do 5 & 6 as well. Try not to have your hopes up too much on HD cap of 5 & 6. We should be thankful to be able to watch it regardless of the quality, unless you are paying for the DVDs... |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 7 2013, 01:35 PM
I'm not sure the person who did 1 did 2. 1 was broadcast on a free HD channel without protection. 2 was PPV and someone was generous enough to cap it. It's sad that that person didn't continue to do 3-whatever but at the same time it's not totally unexpected. Still, I'm sure C-A will be more than happy to sub the rest of the series no matter what raws we end up with. We'll just have to return to 2006 for a while... |
Posted by: Tessou Jan 7 2013, 02:41 PM
I'll let this slide. Once. (First post in this thread, if you're confused.) Anybody else bitching about the lack of HQ raws/subs, or release dates of such will be hit with a red sticker from here on out. I'm getting sick and tired of reading all the moaning about how 720p rips are not available from both new and old members. Give it a rest. When they come, they will be put up here and you will all know about it. This is the second time I've had to step in on this thread's activity, and the second time I've mentioned the thread's rule concerning the 720p files. Spend that stress energy on mirthful, productive activities instead of stewing over things that none of us have any control over. The patient will be rewarded. |

Guys, don't download the Kamiari-Raws 720p version if you are thinking it's legit 720p raw. It's not. It is upscaled from the 480p raw. Although the size (380MB) is more reasonable than that 1GB upscale I saw few days ago.. |

I was almost fooled into downloading them but when I saw the descriptions... I said "No. Won't be fooled!" If you want to upscale them, VLC and The KMPlayer can do that on the fly without re-encoding anything. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 11 2013, 02:28 PM
A properly-configured MPC-HC using madVR for rendering can do the same thing thanks to the magic of Jinc and anti-ringing filters. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: Lebon14 Jan 11 2013, 05:27 PM
Another solution. But I think it's more complicated than VLC and The KMPlayer though... |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 11 2013, 05:33 PM
Negatory. Kawaii Codec Pack Easy-peasy. Run installer, pick what tier your PC is, install, enjoy. And on top of that it has significantly better upscaling than VLC and proper subtitle rendering 100% of the time (using xy-vsfilter). VLC's subtitle engine is way better than it used to be but it's still not perfect for some of the more exotic stuff (panels of color used for subbing signs for instance). KMPlayer I've not used but I also have no real reason to. |
Posted by: BURN_BABY_BURN Jan 11 2013, 09:58 PM
There's also a Spanish one here nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=391659 which I believe is an upscale as their main website states that it's a bad quality raw (from what google translate says anyway) |
