Thanks man! Still working on it! I can't wait to see it finished either!
Thanks! If you're ever in town let me know! I live somewhat close to the Indianapolis airport haha. Can't go wrong with any of those cars! Quick video update for you guys! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP_GKOKPqzw This post has been edited by Alchem1st on Nov 28 2014, 06:46 PM

Yeah, the Speedway is a pretty amazing place for sure. It's amazing that we have so many good racetracks so close! Indiana is the best state to live in if you're a gearhead imo. Only downside is that we're in the rust belt... (obvious from my build LOL) and that we have like six months of Winter LOL.

I wish we had an abundance of road courses. And rust sucks, that's why I picked up a southern car with little winter driving on it. Hoping to keep it that way.

(or IRP or whatever they call it now lol) We also have the drag strip at ORP and the Speedway. Pretty great state! I don't think the Mirage will see another Winter now. Pretty much a garage queen haha! Boom! (Don't miss the video at the bottom either!) Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. Hoping to finish welding on the lower brackets and get the vertical welds done on the crossmember tonight. Then we'll be able to weld across the front of the floor and that whole section will be buttoned up and done! |

IDW Senior Member Group: Members Posts: 99 Member No.: 39,218 Joined: Nov 6th 2012 Location: Indianapolis area | This weekends progress: Painted the inside of the frame rails and the crossmember to seal it from rusting again. (They didn't do this at the factory) Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. Dad started welding on the drivers side wheel well. This is after I ground the welds flat, but it's still in it's early stage of work. (the black spots are just shiny metal reflecting the floor) Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. Some placed need touched up where there are pinholes through the metal still and we haven't made the patch for the rusted out spot yet (though we did make the template today) or welded the panels on the inside of the car; but it's a start! With me grinding the welds down flat and Dad rewelding the pinholes shut this floor install will really look factory to the untrained eye. No weld boogers to be seen! (Unless you look REALLY hard lol) Based on our progress so far I think we will have the floor install 100% complete with the rear end mounted and the car back on the ground by the end of January! Then the front of the car goes in the air and the engine comes out! (After we run new brake lines and fuel lines) |

Thanks! I don't know if it'll be the best overall; but it'll be in the top 5 for sure. To me it'll be the best though since we're building it exactly the way I've seen it in my head these last 6 years since I bought the car!
That's what I'm hoping for! I'm gonna hold off on building the 4G63 for now though I think. Scouring Craigslist everyday for a cheap stock 4G64 to drop for the time being. It'll bolt up and run with the Evo ECU (with some tuning) and wiring and can be used with the Evo trans and stock Evo clutch I have laying here. I can run it in NA for now to get the car on the road (hoping to drive it to the DSM Shootout that way) and take my time building the 4G63. Also, I can toss my 6262 kit on the 4G64 and use it to mock up my exhaust and get that done. (Can't run it that turbo though lol) Pretty much will use that engine to get the car prepped and ready for when the 4G63 is done. I think the 4G63 build will have to wait until next Winter as I don't have the kind of cash needed for it right now and I'm not willing to cut corners on parts selection. May turbo the 4G64 with stock Evo stuff though and may even toss a junkyard Kia DOHC head on it with my stock Evo head internals since all of it is minor bolt on stuff and all that's required is some tune alterations with the Evo 5 ECU. We'll see. This post has been edited by Alchem1st on Dec 16 2014, 09:43 PM

IDW Senior Member Group: Members Posts: 99 Member No.: 39,218 Joined: Nov 6th 2012 Location: Indianapolis area | Lots of progress today! Got the drivers side wheel well almost done and got a good start on the passengers side! Here's a pic of the spot that was rusted off: Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. And here's the patch Dad made: Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. Here's how I finished the day: (just now lol) Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. The Evo 4 RS floor brace is on and done! All that's left is to weld the patch in place, weld the brake line bracket on, and touch up a few spots and the drivers side is finished! Both sides will be done Christmas weekend and hopefully the front and back will be welded up as well. I think it'll be back on the ground by the end of January or the beginning of February! I think I'm going to paint the underside and then coat it with epoxy based truck bed liner instead of undercoat. Should last longer and give better protection; but it'll be a bit noisier. (It's already gonna be noisier so as Ken Block would say, #aintcare ) |

Plan to do a little seam sealing tomorrow afternoon around the interior and paint the interior side throughout the week. All the welding is complete except for touching up the rear where I haven't ground yet. (ran out of sanding belts, but will have more on Monday ) Next Saturday will mark the welding/grinding complete Lord willing and All the pre-seamsealer priming as well. I'll try to get all the seam sealing done next Sunday afternoon and do the painting throughout next week. If everything goes as planned I'll be able to start reinstalling some of the interior next weekend and the rear end and the rest of the interior the weekend after! Progress will start happening FAST after the seam sealing and painting is done! Then I'll start focusing on the engine side of the build. |

Nah, we still have 6 years before the Evo 4 can be brought in legally. I'll have had this car finished and probably gotten my own house and another project car in the stable by then. Even still, a coupe is something that Mitsubishi didn't build, so it'll still be very unique here.

Here's the panel that needed replaced. We ended up just modifying the Evo one to work and closed off the unneeded AYC wiring pass through holes. Image size reduced, original size: unknown. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. All that's left is to get everything seam sealed, shoot another coat of primer on top of that, and then shoot paint. Then it's pretty much ready for reassembly! Would be nice if I was able to get all that stuff done through the week; but we're still working noon to 10pm every day so it doesn't leave much time. If I do manage to get it done, the interior will all go in next weekend and I'll start installing some of the rear end! |

It's amazing how little has changed on these cars over the years, even between chassis. If not for the exhaust hanger being on the driver's side, if you showed me those photos, I'd tell you with zero doubt in my mind that that's the underside of a CT9A. |
