Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Version 3 General Discussion > So... Who still plays Ver3?

Posted by: CoastalmixX Aug 28 2007, 09:48 AM
AS4 is making an incredibly slow entrance to the scene. Ver3 is dead in some places but still kept alive in others.

Some have personal goals and unfinished business. Some need an arcade racing fix and find Ver3 to be the best. And some will stay off AS4 and play Ver3 'til it's dead and gone.

So. Who still plays?

Posted by: GAARA Aug 28 2007, 09:55 AM
I stopped a while ago to start playing MT2 about a 2 years ago, I think. But even at that time I would play ver.3 here and there.

Stopped playing MT2 for a year and now stuck on MT3, so ID is pretty over to me. The only time I will ever touch a ver.3 again would be if my gf takes me to school with her on fridays, because they have cheap ID.

hey garra, are u jocey cousin right?

Posted by: GAARA Aug 28 2007, 01:15 PM
Nope, my cousin is JISM!, he was the one who won the race in that God Foot battle video that was posted here. I have never met Jocey

Posted by: DK_2 Aug 28 2007, 01:27 PM
ya i still play! i play at nickle nickle with tempo.

Posted by: BDDEE@ Aug 28 2007, 01:31 PM
i still play but not often , should b playing this weekend tho
but its like a mix of v2 (free games xDD) v3 ($1 plays wooot) and v4 ($2 sad.gif )
but soon ill be playing alot, because the v2 cabs at this arcade near my work are getting updated to v3 .. so ill be playing for free xD

Posted by: brian_infinispirit Aug 28 2007, 01:48 PM
when i get the chance, i still do play v3 (esp. when i need a break from playing ID4 mainly because i couldn't improve my times) since i tend to miss the courses that were deleted in ID4, esp. tsuchisaka and akina snow... but even with the influx of ID4 here, gameplay for v3 hasn't gone cheaper yet... O.o

Posted by: matt Aug 28 2007, 03:53 PM
yeah I still play, rarely though!

Posted by: Tomo Aug 28 2007, 04:06 PM
i still play beer pong

Posted by: iidesuyo! Aug 28 2007, 05:12 PM
I still do... But barely anyone races here... I just sit around and play Bunta Challenge if I'm in the mood to play. I just hope Initial D 4 will ship out faster soon and maybe decrease the price of their machines, so some 'not as rich' arcades can get it in. But I know that's not gonna happen for a while... ermm2.gif

Posted by: xpaperroses Aug 28 2007, 06:35 PM
I always do up at CSULB.

50 to start. 25 to continue. Free if you win a battle. bwahahah.

Only reason i play ver.3 is cause all the AS4 machines are overpriced.

Posted by: Demon_Lord Aug 28 2007, 06:40 PM
I keep V3 alive, along with a few others, because AS4 is no where in site... dry.gif, around me anyway. theres one a good 30 miles away i only went once with some friends and made a card...but haven't played since.

i just fell off my chair XD

im still playin ID3, simply because id3 is cheap as hell (50c), compared to ID4 ($2 - 4 times its price)

i have a tight budget u see. =x

Agreed... Man... I used to remember when it was less than a year after V3 came out and in Reno they had battle night at the Atlantis. And it was mandatory and arcade rules for you to accept challengers and race. There were cards lined up from one side of the machine all the way to the 2P side... Good times, good times... Video games... they grow up and leave you so fast... crying2.gif

Strangely enough, after playing IDAS4, I've found that I can actually TST now. laugh.gif Managed to get a -'500 on my Akina DH D time at the end of CP2.

ID3 for life...

Started on it,got decent at it...No way am I gonna switch to v4...

I just need eraser...And I prefer the fact that there are no avatars...

Not only do I play ver. 3 I still play ver. 1 from time to time. All though the incredible understeer on the STI in ver. 1 can get annoying at times. We don't have an ID4 machine in Atlanta yet so I don't have much of a choice but to play version 3. I didn't even know that they removed some courses.

I know how you feel. Going back to ID3 after playing IDAS4 I'm not extremely careful and still manage to put out a decent TST... though I've only used the tech on Happo OB. XD

I guess I never technically started, given the fact that the only IDAS within a 100M radius of where i live, is Ver.1 ... Really.
And I'll still play Ver.3 over Ver.4, because of the fact that there are still a lot of kinks and bugs to work out, Ver.3,2, and 1 never had those problems.

they removed those courses so u can ACTUALLY drive them with all that drifting in it, haha. if u were to have those other courses, ud be hitting walls from left to right, and probably never finish the course. haha

2) I heard from several sources there is ID4 IN montreal right now.

I just play Initial D V3 for a while just to go on time attacks. But I'm not use to it anymore. So I'm pretty weak on IDV3 already. I'm going on Initial D 4 already because I'm use to it.

well i think that if you drive properly, you can just make a turn and not drift. it is not like you are actually FORCED to drift at every turn.
ie: i think tht u all agree that you can more or less drift on akina snow. well there is a way to Not drift, if you can control your turns well enough. i think that it is the same concept for v4. although it will be kinda hard not to drift on shomaru whistling.gif .

anyway, i chose ID because the tracks are narrow unlike many other racing games. and the things your car does are actually realistic (not like fast and the furious where you drive AND FLY)

@ Tomo
IDv4 in montreal is a joke. the only good arcade that i play IDv3 in is like too poor to get it this year. the only "rich" arcade said that it will come out in june. then it became july, then august, and now, they dont know when its coming out anymore. the last arcade in montreal does not even have IDv3.

i live in montreal, so no arcade has it yet??? might pick up as4 but MT3 is getting my attetion alot. if as4 isnt there yet then A2K would probably hav a double cab of v3 (unless they removed it for a 2nd time). from the sound of it, it looks like you were asking around for AS4 at A2k

well, there are certain area's of the course that would not work very well on AS4 because of its sliding physics
Tsuchisaka : the rollercoasters... because of the amount of speed you gain before them you would just get major understeer going into them on as4.. all tho because on as4 you lose speed on smaller turns before the tunnel coming upto it , it might of made the speed work with the RC but it is still too tight
Shomaru : the course is too narrow, if you slid like you do in as4 the nose and behind of your car would be raping the wall
Happo : on IB problems would be the consec turns near end of CP1 , the snake hairpins cp3 .. all tho i could see a way of it working in as4...kind of like akagi

Still playing v3. Tried v4... felt more like Ridge Racer than Battle Gear (am a fan of Battle Gear, by the way -- very realistic physics). I kinda prefer v3 for the physics, but the gameplay of v4 (tuning aspect) is more interesting.

Despite the machines being out of cards for the past month and partially broken machines, my team and I still play V3. We used to have a V2 but they switched it with this a few years back. I've also been hearing (albeit unfounded and quite possibly false) rumors that we're getting some V4 cabs. The only reason I mention this is we have a friggin DDR Supernova 2 beta in our arcade and us V3 players have been getting the short end of the stick for months now so it sounds plausible. One can hope right? I don't even care if it's all in Japanese, it's gotta be better than what we have now.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/funnest is indeed a word... of course, it's a different word form of another word whose usage isn't frowned upon as "funnest" is.

If there is a Version 5... the time delay from AS4 to 5 will be much larger than Ver3 to AS4 (3 years). Why? I think it's because people are catching on that AS4 sucks and is more ridiculous than Ver3.

But don't get me wrong. It's fun and I play it. laugh.gif

V2- I cant go any further after Lv31, i did saw 35 but i duno how to get higher after 31.

V3- Just reached Lv22 few days ago, and i wanna make myself faster with my EvoIV

V4- After i know RM18 for a card, i walk back to V3 machines and continue my V3. V4? maybe later... haha

I returned once. A part of me kept nagging that I should try FTing my GDB since it was already at the 800k mark.

But when I tried filling the blanks in my TAs (Akina Snow, Shomaru, Tsuchisaka), I realized that acclimatizing to V4 made me really, really awful at handling V3.

At every tight corner, I found myself doing LFB tappity-taps and PC. So my times became subpar to say the least.

Maybe I'll try again next time to get back my V3 groove, but I dread tackling Happogahara (my worst course in the game, and the only area I haven't notched a TA yet in any direction/condition) with my V4 habits intact.

Something's got to give.

I was excited for AS4 but the handling of the cars there disappointed me (im entitled to my opinion right?) but anyway, I liked the new animations before each battle in story mode plus the characters have voices and move..the customization of the car is...so-so..anyway the primary reason that prevents me from playing it more to enhance my skills is that its very expensive here in the philippines (since its a new arrival and the managers won't lower the price coz a lot of people still play it)..Sooooo..I went back to playing version 3 again..I was going to quit recently but some unexpected events kept from retiring..I have one personal time attack goal to reach before the end of the year and will battle more people to finish off my IDAS3 experience before I retire. happy.gif

I only first touched an ID machine about a 3 weeks ago (ID3)! ><
The nearest ID4 machine to me is about.. 60km away (over an hours drive).. I have played it a few times, it seems to be a lot more.. advanced than ID3.
ID4 here costs $3 a play, $3 to continue.. ID3 is still and I think will always be $2 at my arcade.. I've never seen any arcade games but the older ones like street fighter and mortal kombat ($1) cheaper than that $2 mark round these parts..
How the hell do you guys get 50cent games!! >< crying2.gif

it depends where you play, the country and location ie quiet arcades where there isnt too much interest left in v3. hope you can find one of those places

me! will definitely stick to ver. 3 for a long time to come.

@CoastalmixX
what is the cp times for your tsu ib rx8 run??
im thinking of taking a short brake of AS4 just to accomplish some things on v3 ...gona start off by playing tsu ib tommorrow and getting 39 ><

@BDDEE: Oh man, last time I did that was July or something... I just know that CP1 is 41"7, with personal best 41"552. XD

As long as CP2, 3, and 4 are under 40... you'll probably get 39. biggrin.gif

meh v4 is a different game... but once u get used to switching from v3 to v4 and v4 to v3 u can go back to v3 without losing acquired skills that you have developed.... i frequently switch from id2 mt3 id3 and id4 every week and have no problems except my v3 line isnt as tight as it used to be as when i played that mainly cuz i retired for a while

Still stuck on ver3 since Hawaii won't be getting a ver4 machine for a while plus most of our arcades won't hook up the online battling sad.gif . But I love playing ver3 since I only started summer of 06 and wanted to bring my iro dh to at least 2'57 happy.gif .

Can't wait for the experience of ID4 though.

It's pretty fun. I think I liked v.3 better tho. Maybe. But they took out the v.4 in our arcade. I think they said cuz they were shipping them to the arcade in San Francisco. Bummer. But we still have v.3 machines in the two local arcades plus the movies.

Posted by: Zim Jan 6 2008, 08:33 PM
The cool thing about my place is: The ID3 machines here are so affordable... .75 per game, .50 to continue. lol. I love it... I went to the Powerhouse once, and saw people playing the game, I went over to check... 1.50 to play, 1.00 to continue. WTF?

Posted by: spyke543 Jan 6 2008, 08:36 PM
Man. It's still a dollar over here. Arcades won't let up.

Posted by: poorboy Jan 7 2008, 01:01 AM
over here in san francisco, in da beginning of 07 summer it wuz like 50 cents per game, 50 cents continue. now its a dollar per game, 50 cents continue...

but do u guys think dat dey will take out v3 machines and replace em with v4? IMO, i think not becuz due to da fact u cant transfer v3 to v4, there are still alotta v3 players so v4 is still kinda lonely. and v4 cost 2 dollars per game, and 5 dollars per card...and uh btw, is the v4 cards plastic?

IDAS 4 has made its way to the Philippiness since last year.., played it a few times, i was surprised to see that the number of tracks has decreased (from the original 9 in Ver. 3, only 4 made to the list in IDAS 4), also the number of cars has decreased (the Lancer Evo family line has been cut off, only the III, IV and IX appear).., compared its game engine with Ver. 3.., the graphics are nice, just like the anime..,

over here, one game in IDAS Ver. 3 cost about 6-12 pesos (about 1/7 to 1/3
of a US dollar grin2.gif ) and one card costs about 6 pesos.., in IDAS 4, one game costs about 28 pesos (more than 1/2 of a US dollar) and a card costs at around 110 pesos (more than 2 US dollars) playing IDAS Ver.3 in here is cheap, but getting addicted to IDAS 4 will get you broke laugh.gif ..,

so where does my vote for the better IDAS go?? VEr. 3!!! w00t2.gif

i think, like most players here, will play IDAS Ver. 3 for a long time to come.., grin2.gif

Actually, here's what happened with that bullshit.

It was the first location test of AS4 in America. But that's where the awesome stops.

First off, they only sent us ONE CABINET. It's a two player game, and you send us one cabinet, and you honestly think the test has a chance?

Second off, they didn't even release the cards until a good 2 weeks after the machine appeared. "Um, itz a gaem that wurkz on memry and saving shit lolz, so letz make em wait 2 weekz". Idiotic.

We didn't even have the machine for 2 months.

Then I find out later that the Sega Reps were "unsatisfied with the location test."

............ =|

WELL NO SHIT. And thus, because of that, GameWorks probably won't get AS4 back until it's already wildly popular, or over a year old in the states. Oh, and they seem to be treating WMMT3 the same way, cept we didn't even get a location test of that. :/

Posted by: stuykid89 Jan 24 2008, 04:46 PM
lol at the arcade near my house,

iD is losing popularity in general. Cow and I are pretty much the only decent people playing right now.

First off. Im new. Hi.

Second... I started with IDAS.. and it's all I know. I havn't seen a ID4 machine near me, so I think I'll be playing AS, till it gets torn out of our local arcade, which won't happen, because it's the biggest money maker there. Even though they just put in that cheap knock off *Maximum Tune*, ID still has a line on it, all day.

SO yes, I still play IDAS, And im proud..smile.gif

Hello there,

First of all, I'm a newbie player ini IDAS V.3. Well, I just played it last evening for the first time and getting really addicted...

If I am allowed, may I ask a few question regarding "Technical" to play this IDAS V3 in this thread (simply because this thread still has somebody that is recently replying post compared to any other threads) ?

1. Could someone teach me "how to drift" (step-by-step) in IDAS 3 ??
2. Which car that's best for beginner?
3. What is the difference between FC, FD, an 4WD ??

Thx a lot for your help, this may sound silly but I'm just addicted to Car since I watched Initial-D Anime for the last two months and I've never played arcade racing as serious as now before hehehe... laugh.gif laugh.gif

I lol'd. Hard.

So, in return, I'll give you a legitimate answer for that. FC is short for FC3S, and is the older generation of RX-7 in the game, FD is short for FD3S, and is the 2 newer generation RX-7's in the game, and 4WD is short for 4-wheel drive, and is a type of drivetrain in which all 4 wheels deliver power to the road surface.

i still play it..rx-8 got eaten by the machine at my local arcade...raced razorsuke during the summer and it was pretty damn fun...but i still play it since v4 just doesn't appeal to me..

keisukeRX-7: best car to start with is e4 imo..overall best car in the game and easy to learn with too.

I still play Version 3 because for some reason, it feels more exiting. S13 yay! When Version 4 came out at the arcade I played at, I saw players just flooring it, powersliding through everything. So me and my friends tried V4. Pure flooring, except for the few pins. Yeah, V4 doesn't seem fun other than the updated graphics.

the evo 4 is a good overall car, but certainly not the best.

the best overall car would be the rx-8.

however, the rx-8 is less noob-friendly than the evo 4.

V4 is just insanely boring.

I think that V3 takes more skill then AS4. If you look know how to PC then its all good. V3 you have to master all the techniques. Thats why I like it better. No one at my school knows what eraser is.

I just came across a machine in south Milwaukee, WI, at a place called "Anime Fan Zone". I'm very new to the game, but I used to play Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and I was okay at that. I'm planning on spending quite a bit of time and money practicing on the machine this summer, though, so I figured that this might be a good place to get started in terms of gaining information on the game.

Got back into V3 a couple months ago. Found a cabinet for $400 that had 1 monitor that needed some work. Everything else worked fine. Thankfully that is my specialty. Since I work and an arcade, I even got to put it out on the game floor so others can play it too. Getting a little ID3 resurgence here in NC. Memories.

I'm reffering to the game in general. Puente Hills is the closest place that has the game so yes, I'll be playing mostly out of there. But there is moreno valley and I'll be visiting that location as well until I find out where else this game is found within the state. I'm starting from scratch after 3 years of no gameplay, so I'm russssty, but don't count me out for I adapt VERY quickly. I just need to FT my car asap. Were you interested in joining? Is that why you ask? blink.gif

Haha yeah I was actually interested and I first assumed you were reffering to the one in Puente. I go to the one in Moreno Valley but only once in a while since I'm located in SD and gas is a pain in the ass. Also, all the three times that I've been to play at Moreno, the cards are always out. mad.gif

As for the skills, I'm a complete noob. Mostly played ID3 of all IDAS games but even then I still sucked after all the years playing the game.

I've been craving to play this game competitively (haven't felt like this ever since IDAS3) and joining your team would have me thinking it would help me with the game, but with my current situation I don't think it would work out no matter how much I want to.

Sorry for wasting your time.

But I can't blame you about the rankings since the amount of driving that we have to go through is so damn long. Still though, I want to play atleast 10 games and create a card. All the pros seem to hog the goddamn machine. crying2.gif

Well I can tell you that the game is worth getting into. It's not like any of the others, it's actually similar to 3 in many ways. I recommend it, highly recommend it. Not only because it's the best version since 3, but because the community needs to grow. So far there are only 2 arcades that have the game. Aside from that, we're stuck at B because we don't have the community that demands more machines. Without more machines, there won't be a server. We need that server to communicate globally and involve ourselves with the rest of the world. Aside from the arcade wars that happen with gaming, the Initial D community is one in its own. It's a family. So come down, and if I so happen to see you improving and taking the game seriously, I'll let you on the team. So don't apologize for "wasting" my time, because I won't accept that. Make the time to play the game and put your name on the map. I understand gas is a pain, but we all make sacrifices for the things we love to do. I run a business, handle my relationship, compose music, record bands, and still have time to sit an hour in traffic to get to the arcade. It makes it just much more valuable and important when you finally get to play, as opposed to being there everyday. The one's who go out of their way, we're the hungry ones. We're the ones that stand out.

I wish I could still play, many of the old arcades I used to go to have long since closed down, and the ones that remain either don't have a V3 machine, the machine is broken, or its a Jap machine.

Hey Vile, do you still play V3? If so, let me know. I will be off on Thursday, and I want to get a good session in.

Where do you play in Socal? I'll be down there next week and I'll be staying in San Gabriel Valley.

If you put a card up, that will usually signify that someone wants to get on. The spot above the screen works as a card holder just like the version 3 machines.

Wow, I've heard so much about your team a couple of years ago when I first started IDAS3 in '06 and I now see why you guys are known. A team that is ACTUALLY committed. I wish I had the same passion for the game as you have right now, but like I said, with the schedule that I have right now, I'm not sure if it's right to keep going to Riverside and SD back to back. Although in my Summer break, I will most likely go and play this game more often but I can't surely promise you that.

@Silfa
Yeah from time to time, I do play at Boomers in Clairemont. But I'm down tomorrow to go wherever you usually play at IDAS3. smile.gif

@Agent556
That is my problem, I don't have a card. crying2.gif
They always tend to run out whenever I go to the ID7 cabinet in Moreno.

Puente Hills has cards man, no need to worry about not getting to play. I'll give you my turn. Anything to expand this community. The game has only been out a couple of months, and even with the arcade scenes diminishing, I doubt its not going to start sprouting all over the US. It's just a matter of time.

I need to ask some questions, hopefully picking up a machine tomorrow or friday but have some concerns..

does your initial d have 1 or two coin doors? meaning is it in the middle for both machines or is there one for each machine.

and what about the card readers? are there one on each side or both in the middle.

I dont have pics of the machine im picking up so I have no clue how its set up, just trying to gauge whats common.. If its 1 coin door I cant take the coin door. and if the readers are in 1 housing I cant take that either.. lol

After we have been stuck at D3 for years, D7 just hit Thailand recently. But still...

- D7 price per game is 3x higher than D3
- D7 is offline mode only (For now, in future is still unknown)
- Only one place here have D7, which is pretty far from where i live.

I will continue D3 and stop D7 for now until the price is reduce and there are more location to play.

There are good machines over at Family Fun Arcade near LACC, machines are always maintained and there's not a lot of people who play Initial D over there so hardly any lines

I wish there were more locations in Norcal that have IDAS3...namely I want to renew my card, and none of the arcades near me (UC Davis, Strikes in Elk Grove) have card renewals :/

Posted by: rosh Apr 3 2013, 07:08 AM
I can renew your card for you. New cards/ renewals is a service I started offering for people on V3 and V4. PM me for details.

You can always try out the emulator. Not the same if you don’t have a wheel, but it’s still something.
