Why use auto in an INITIAL D game... that just ruins the fun. I was racing a guy with auto today and lost first three games without boost then won next three games with boost. I can only beat him without boost on myogi and usui bcuz those are easy to shift for. but the other maps are hard since i havent really played enuff to be good at shifting. anyways what do u guys think? is it easier with auto and which is better?

I'd use auto to learn the car's shift points. After that, I wouldnt touch it. Just because the transmission is automatic doesnt mean it's smart. If it drops RPM low enough it'll downshift and if it hits the redline, it'll upshift; which are sometimes things you want to delay.

^ That's why the game's creators made it so you can downshift the automatics too. wink2.gif

I used auto for a very long time before I decided to switch to manual. Auto isn't that easy to handle, actually. Try RX-8 auto on Happogahara if you wanna know what I mean. Lol. There's a lot of disadvantages when you're in continuous corners because you can't eraser. Braking and gas control are very important to control understeer.

I used auto to familiarize myself with the shift points and gear numbers used in every corner in every map. After that, manual was easy to use (of course, after a little practice with the shifter).

Auto's superb in IDAS5 though. tongue.gif

No u, auto = challenging (if you wanna be fast with it), and manual = fun (for manual users who love abusing the shifter).

Summary

Auto
Pro: No need to shift, and still can shift down if desired. Very helpful if you're not familiar with a course.
Con: Limitations in cornering cos you can't do eraser. No matter what you do, you won't be as fast as manual. Thus, in a way, it's harder to drive with.

Manual
Pro: Better cornering = fast. 'nuff said.
Con: Not much, just that you need to be fast and coordinated with your shifter. But won't be a problem if you're used to it.

If you're serious with IDAS3 (like increasing your battle level and TA), you should use manual. Otherwise if you're just playing for fun bumping around with friends on weekends once in a while, and don't really care about the dynamics of the game and treat it as 'just a game', then just use auto. wink2.gif
