i think they can used to drift....
But FF will lose like s***. smile.gif

Posted by: Perry Dec 18 2002, 03:55 PM
Now that's a bad statement right there. You can't really compare cars with their drivetrain. It's just pointless. If you want to compare cars, get names of specific cars in the same class. Like Toyota Corolla vs. Honda Civic. happy.gif

4WD is a good... the start is done with no burnout and when used correctly, drifts faster ...but a FR or even FF could beat a 4WD

Posted by: tainted Dec 18 2002, 06:16 PM
in winning a race... it all depends on the driver...

and in comparing... you could go read what perry said... biggrin.gif

all personel prefrence. Simple as that

And driving conditions. In the dirt, or more slippery surfaces if you take two drivers of equal skill the AWD will perform better. But yeah, varies upon car and application.

Sport/grip driving you can use any drivetrain, drag you're better off with something besides AWD since it only has a good amount of low-end torque in most cars (I'm talking stock vs stock, I don't want some idiot coming on here and saying that a 500 hp Evo can beat a stock Supra), and for drifting AWD or FR (!!!NOT FF!!!)

Rallying is a whole other story, those are extreme conditions. But for the most parts what your comfortable with

Posted by: ]{aya Dec 19 2002, 05:21 PM
hum ...rally use drift techniques ....but its a hard sport you have to be though

Posted by: Jayson Dec 19 2002, 05:23 PM
the cars have to be tough tongue.gif

Posted by: ]{aya Dec 19 2002, 05:24 PM
thats why you have the Lanevo in it !

Posted by: Jayson Dec 19 2002, 05:27 PM
Escort all the way! (too bad they don't race it anymore... sad.gif )

It's pretty nuts, but Mitsubishi isn't competing in the 2003 WRC season. They're taking the year to totally rebuild the team and car, which means they should be back in 2004 pretty stacked. Possibly the future team to beat after Peugeot.

Touring races feature all the layouts competing against each other on the same circuit (not sure if there were ever mid-engine AWDs in Touring). I don't notice any one layout standing out, just the drivers' skill.

On a side note, in the JGTC, your allowed to change an AWD drive train to an FR drivetrain, and all the GTR's do. So what does that tell you?

Posted by: Alex Dec 19 2002, 07:43 PM
In the WRC and most other rally cars if not all others, well they have extended shifters and i think they also have a short shift system, well i've seen one that did. so their drifting doesnt require as much work...well, yeah...

Posted by: FWD,RWD,AWD Dec 19 2002, 07:43 PM
They want to look cool like Takumi and not surly like Takeshi. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Alex Dec 19 2002, 07:58 PM
with the extension on the shifter, they dont have to take their eyes off the road, and dont have to leave their one hand to turn

Posted by: Jayson Dec 19 2002, 08:04 PM
They have sequential shifters, and they are mounted higher.

The best car driving system that's easy should be like in Men In Black 2. Use a playstation controller! I mean who doesn't love having a dummy getting sucked in your controller so you can drive around using PS controls? happy.gif

Posted by: Jayson Dec 19 2002, 11:40 PM
I prefer using a Steering wheel, pedals, and a shifter. But I have heard that Mercedes (sp?) is working on using a joystick for driving

Posted by: SupahNewbie Dec 21 2002, 01:05 AM
Well it's just an idea.....it seems since so much people are into games right now that the general population would benefit. Not that it would be any cooler just alot more easier. Shifting with a manual is alot more stressful then tapping L1 a couple of times happy.gif

Course for the "fun" part yeah the steering wheel and stuff is much better, but if your tired from work I doubt you want to really concentrate on the car.

Joysticks just ain't right. Might as well make it voice controlled.

The problem with using a game-pad to control a car is that if you hit the turn right button or gas button, the car thinks that the wheel is turned all the way to the right and the gas is floored (a problem with many racing games). Also sometimes you can't hold several buttons at the same time.

However the X-Box game-pad has special buttons that you can depress halfway for half gas or brake etc, but I never got a chance to play it yet sad.gif

Just learn Standard. tongue.gif

Hey you know, PS2 controller has sensitivity detector too, you can press it half way, or 1/4 way, or 3/4 way...etc. Go play GT3! lol laugh.gif

Posted by: Jayson Dec 21 2002, 10:54 AM
True, but have you ever tried holding it at 3/5 of the way around a whole turn? That takes mad precision.

Posted by: Chamber Dec 22 2002, 05:07 PM
mid rear is the best for everything.

i'm not even kidding, you have the lowest PMI possible, good weight balance, and RWD.

Posted by: Jayson Dec 22 2002, 06:53 PM
MR is the best, but for some reason every one prefers FR, unless your talking F1, but thats a whole other story all together

Posted by: Chamber Dec 22 2002, 07:18 PM
not many MR cars =\

Posted by: Jayson Dec 22 2002, 09:09 PM
it's not a practical set up for daily drivers, thats why

Posted by: Neo Vash Dec 23 2002, 05:24 PM
so many contradictions.

Posted by: Jayson Dec 23 2002, 09:46 PM
My fault, I should have said the best for RACING, but I thought that was a given. Just underestimated Neo Vash's IQ level
