Fourth Stage AVISynth scripts should be all finished tomorrow, and running through the encoder. If everything goes as planned, I should have the entire 1080p release finally finished within a week.

Hi, this is amazing, I love the initial D series and am really happy that you are making a 1080p version of the old seasons. I want to re-watch and re-download this anime and I have stumbled upon this thread. Thank you so much for doing this. I will be waiting for the 1080p release. As of now i see only fourth stage is left!

Also I request you to make 1080p version of the 2007 Wangan Midnight Anime after this. Will really be appreciated. Thank You once again

Apparently I underestimated the slowness of the scripts running through the encoder so it will not be up on Friday. It will be about 1-2 days more than estimated. I see no reason the 1080p release should not be all finished and ready to go by Monday at the latest.

I've been watching snippets of each stage here and there and noticed some fansubbing errors. 4th stage seems to be really blurry as well. Do you have any plans of re-encoding them and releasing a v2 in the future? I don't mind helping out with the grammar stuff if I have time.

I'm going to bet the answer to that is a resounding 'no'. The blurriness is in the original blurays; these were sadly not a quality transfer. A glance at the reviews for the Initial D bluray sets on Amazon Japan will show you as much. Avex really cheaped out and it shows.

As for translation errors, what specifically were you noticing? If they're the shoddy translations in Fourth Stage, that's because those are the official US subtitles from FUNimation, which are crap.

I thoroughly enjoy these files! I have had different versions of these files, and DVDs, since I was a teenager. Seeing the files in better quality than I'd ever found was quite a find!

I'd like to do something about the subtitles on fourth stage. I've Googled for a few hours now and found that the best subtitles are the Live Evil ones that I have. While there are minor errors, it's better than the Google Translate files that Funimation did. I'd like to watch fourth stage with the subs on and not twitch.

I'm looking into using Subrip mentioned by DarkDream earlier in this thread. There are other tools that I've picked up, but audio/video stuff is not my specialty. I know it'll be a challenge. Before I delve very far into this rabbit hole, are there other options I've missed? Has someone taken this step but the subs aren't well distributed?

While I appreciate the effort put into publishing all this as a single package, I was very let down by the lack of 5.1 audio in 4th stage...

Currently searching for another torrent which has the good quality audio to rewatch.

It was broadcast in 2.0, and the 5.1 is a 'remix' of this originally-mastered-in-2.0-audio. The 2.0 included is very much 'good quality audio'. Best of luck in your search.

Anyone know where I can get Live-Evil subs? Seems near impossible to find them.

I understand that we had Christmas and New Year and that we have Corona, private issues and other problems, but it would had been nice if someone had respond.

His last post here is from May 2020 (7 (!) months ago) and since then there is silence.
Is he still working on the "Legend" movies ? We don't know for sure.

Even Nomake Wan, who seems to know a lot of darkdream787 release didn't answer.

Wow, a little salty are we? Well since you asked like such an asshat, I'll be sure to oblige!

The blurays are all upscales, save for Fifth Stage and Final Stage. First and Second Stage were mastered to VHS, and those VHS masters were upscaled (incredibly poorly) to 1080i. Third Stage is the only decent "upscale" since it was mastered to 35mm film, so its 1080p version is actually really good. Extra Stage and Battle Stage, while I'm still fairly certain these were all still from the VHS master era, are provided as 1080p upscales. Fourth Stage, likewise, is provided as a 1080p upscale.

Fifth Stage and Final Stage are provided as 1080p native, since they were created well into the HDTV era of digital mastering.

So anyway, since this board is finished and all, why don't you make like a tree...and fuck off.
