It seems like battling in-store with boost on is the norm on the YouTube vids for SS ranked players. I also believe that the battle boost isn't as rubber-band-y strong as previous IDs and other arcade games, and plus it makes it more fun rather than being outrun buy several hundred meters. Plus, aren't all network battles with boost on anyway? However, I can't seem to shake the fact that good players always prefer boost off because of things like "it's all about skill" and want to outrun clearly under-tuned and less-skilled players by 400m or so. Such as myself, as I'm still learning the physics and lining. I don't need to be outrun by several hundred meters (and that's only at CP1 on most tracks) while still learning lines and braking points, but I want to be competitive, or at least fun. Is it "wrong" to play with boost on and not "hold the brake" against clearly skilled players with FT record holder cars? I would want to always play with boost on, even when my skills improve, but I just want some credibility in it and not humiliation or ridicule. |

If I'm not mistaken, network battles can be Boost On or Off depending on the players agreeing to it. There's nothing wrong with leaving Boost On - I don't think it's something which can be forced upon the player themselves.

Boost off is fine if you've got dead equal statistics in terms of your cars; or even if the car is slightly biased in favor of the less skilled player on a specific map. Boost On is the general, all purpose chase-me-if-you-can mode where anything goes, really. Your cup of tea. |

That's the thing. I don't want to seem like a cheat or coward, but I still want a close, fun, and competitive race. It's already clear who's the faster or better one by looking at the fastest time board; so what makes boost off not fair?. I also don't want someone to tell me to put boost off. Quick note: boost is what makes a game fun with more people. Just look at the other greatest racing game of all time, Daytona USA.

I don't initiate boost off usually. It's not as simple as previous versions, though, because even in boost on in IDAS5, skill still makes a huge difference. A can still win B 100+m in boost on if B's been wasting his tires on every corner. Skill is a huge factor in IDAS5. So, to say that boost on is meant for noobs isn't really correct, since it takes up more brainpower and skill to play boost on, imo. |

really ah I always thought pros play w/o boost..I always play boost off if the other player's FT too(and lose badly to the person=((().. my gf and I always play boost off coz we're equally unskilled..but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter coz it's all in the name of fun!unless it's a de-ranking match lol..

It strategy... waiting for their opponent to come closed so that they will let the rival to pass and use the boost at the very last corner or last section.... That the reason why I hate boost on battle....

My Double Aces + Rising Stars Group: Advanced Members Posts: 2,587 Member No.: 5,284 Joined: Jan 28th 2005 Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | They randomly brake on straights to conserve the "tire boost". Since there's no reason to push your corner speeds in battle especially boost on, when they lead they'll randomly brake on straights, take corners slower etc. Tire boost is much stronger than the battle boost assist. Especially in EXP2.0 - if you have less tire boost than the guy in front don't expect to catch up even if you have the battle boost assist helping you. |

Specifically into the guardrail. |

That kinda makes it sound like you're scared to lose? Risks are what makes battles more enjoyable than a simple TA up and down the mountain. Pass him on the straight? Overspeed the corner? Steal the inside? Bump him out? Blind attack? You can only learn once you lose.

IDW Jr. Member Group: Members Posts: 56 Member No.: 35,944 Joined: Jul 16th 2010 Location: San Jose, ca | I like boost on battles, regardless of opponent. From losing battles with boost on, it's safe to say that skill is more important than the battle boost, so it doesn't and shouldn't matter if it's on. Plus, I don't like losing by 300m+. |

Hello again~~ Group: Advanced Members Posts: 1,054 Member No.: 21,309 Joined: Oct 26th 2006 Location: West Borneo, where the jungle lies | Actually Boost On in IDAS.5 is alot different that it's previous ID version, as I felt that boost On in ID.5 will only kick in when you still have your tyres boost left, I often had boost on battle yet I still can maintain my lead/distance if I manage my boost carefully in front. |
