So much so that the organisers of the Australian GP are up in arms because the sound wasn't exiting enough.

The cars were admittedly very quiet in the broadcasts but it's the way F1 is going. N/A engines with 8-cylinder engines are becoming very rare in production cars. Hell, the F10 M5 (twin-turbo V8) artificially produces engine noises through speakers to give the driver the illusion of a louder, n/a engine. F1 tech ultimately has to benefit the cars we drive everyday.

On the plus side, tire squealing and the cheers of the crowd are now audible. A lot of race attendees stated that ear plugs/muffs weren't necessary.

The race today in Bahrain was, as a British commentator would say, an absolute cracker. It seemed as if there was fierce battling and overtaking on every single lap.

Maldonado going full retard and T-boning Guiterrez on the racing line was facepalm worth but the subsequent safety car period and restart admittedly made for an explosive last few laps.

20 years ago today Ayrton Senna was killed while racing at Imola.

I wasn't into F1 as a kid and so I had never noticed him if I ever caught a race on television sadly. sad.gif

Ugh...

I don't know if anyone else has seen the video of Bianchi's crash, but I've got a lead weight in my chest. He's alive, and that's awesome, but only barely. I just can't wrap my head around the concept of hitting a tractor with a 1400lb car and moving it 6 feet sideways... And surviving.

I hope the best for him, his family, the Marussia team, and the rest of the drivers in the wake of this.

The improvement in safety following Senna's death, let alone the past 2 decades have been huge for the drivers well-beings but there are still evident limits. I haven't seen any footage of the crash but from what I've read, he had some luck on his side too.

Jules has a diffuse axonal brain injury... 90% of patients never wake up, and the remaining 10% are usually impaired for the rest of their lives. This sucks. sad.gif

The worst part is that it was preventable. There was ZERO reason for any recovery equipment to be on-track without a safety car.

They should have used a winch and just dragged it off the course. This is F1... all that shit is all going to be replaced anyway.

As unlikely as I think it is of happening, I hope refueling is allowed again.

A raised power limit and lessened fuel restrictions would likely also mean the ability of the teams to run higher rev limits, which would in turn bring back part of the iconic sound that while not necessary, has been definitely missing.

A 17 point swing is in the bag?

I mean, I'm pretty sure he does too, but at the end of the day things can happen. This is racing, after all.

DUDE. Right? The double threading of the needle was just awesome to watch, and it ended up being a good race for a while too until Williams inevitably fell off. I'm guessing part of it was the fuel consumption, if you looked at the numbers mid-race, they were really pushing those cars to keep up with HAM and ROS. Even though they dropped off the podium by the end, they had a great showing, and honestly, VET has been nearly a podium staple all year so it's not exactly a surprise. Pit strat really was what determined it all though.

I'm alittle surprised this wasn't posted about. Incredibly depressing news and at only 25. sad.gif

QUOTE
The world of motorsport has bid farewell to French Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi at his funeral in his hometown of Nice.

World champion Lewis Hamilton and many of Bianchi's colleagues joined family and friends at a service in the city's cathedral while fans gathered outside.

The 25-year-old died on Friday from head injuries he sustained in a crash at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.

His car number, 17, is being retired from F1 in his honour.

Bianchi had been in a coma since crashing his Marussia car into a recovery vehicle at a rain-hit race last October.

He is the first F1 driver to die from injuries sustained in a grand prix since Brazilian triple world champion Ayrton Senna was killed at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.

R.I.P Jules. It's a bit late but still.. he was supposed to be a Ferrari driver and a WC prospect. At least that's what I believed in and what a lot of people thought could be.

Speaking of Ferrari though, they announced that they're retaining Kimi for another season which is great news. They need these 2 WC's to bring the team back to it's former glory and if they jump Mercedes next season since this year's car is pretty good, maybe Kimi can win another one before he retires. People have been giving him a lot of flack since his return to Ferrari even though he is their latest champion.

The tire de-treaded before it blew out completely. I see that as a Pirelli issue... I'm not sure the condition of Rosberg's tire that blew out at 190mph during practice (holy shit, that was an impressive save though) but two high speed tire failures on two separate cars gets me leaning one way pretty hard.
