A new website relating to Shutokou Battle is live: http://www.sb-x.jp/ It even has a countdown timer for an announcement. 2 days to go guys!

There is also an article at 4Gamer related to the game http://www.4gamer.net/games/367/G036746/20161227020/

The picture is of a red 2017 Nissan GT-R parked on the C1 loop with the Tokyo Tower in view. Hopefully if Shutokou Battle is revived, we might get it on PS4 and PC. Fingers crossed...

Nope, it'll be Import Tuner Challenge 2, only for Xbox One, and they'll maintain the currency bug because why not?

Man, it'd be nice if they do bring it over here, I haven't played much of it since they were on the PS2 and Dreamcast.

Genki better be alive and actually doing something besides teasing. I hate it when dead devs bring back to life their social media impressions and yet have no game to show off.

If the visuals of the pic are anything to go by, it looks like it could be a smartphone game lol

Yeah it'll be either phone/portable, or a no frills budget title for current consoles, if that picture represents the product they're revealing.

But a countdown timer for a freaking mobile game seems too much, don't ya think? Genki was also seen in the list of devs supporting the PS4. It is a console game for sure!

Well, if it is a console game hopefully it makes it way west and sells for dirt cheap. I remember when the Kaido Battle games came to The US. They were like $19.99 brand new.

Buuuuuuudget title.

Simple Series didn't not make money, after all. They could release it for $30 and it would be worth it they didn't fuck up the gameplay.

As much as I hate to admit it, that's probably going to be the case, especially in light of a recent update I read on this story on Gematsu:

QUOTE
Update 2:35 a.m.: Famitsu App, Famitsu’s smartphone application-dedicated website, posted about the countdown website, meaning that it might turn out to be a smartphone game.

Gematsu

In the end it makes sense, if they're not exactly on the best financial standing, to develop a game for a mobile device which is far more cheaper to do than to develop a full-on console game. If it truly is a smartphone game, I do hope it's not a stupid free to play game (which it probably will end up being sad.gif), but a regular smartphone game that has a one time fee.

I think Square Enix does that ever so often, launching countdown timers for smartphone titles or ports.

Sad, really sad that, that will probably be the case. I wish game developers would just release full new games at a reasonable price and ditch the free to play b.s.

AND IT IS CONFIRMED... SHUTOKO BATTLE XTREME... for smartphones.

DAMN IT! DAMN IT...

QUOTE
Following a countdown teaser website, Genki has announced Shutoko Battle Xtreme for iOS and Android, the first entry in its Genki Racing Project series since 2006. It will be free-to-play.

Pre-registration for the “racing battle ARPG” is available now at the game’s official website. Various bonuses will be granted to users based on the number of pre-registrations:

10,000 – Two-Star Suzuki Alto Works HA36S 2015
30,000 – Three-Star Honda S660 JW5 2015
50,000 – 500 VIP Coins
100,000 – Four-Star Toyota 86 ZN6 2015

I probably won't even bother trying it out. Not a fan of racing games on touch screens. Here's to hoping they make enough money off this game so they can make an actual TXR game for consoles.

That'd be great and I hope it happens. You have a good point about touch screen controls, to be honest I just grabbed Mega Man 1 for iOS and it's hard to play with the touch screen controls. sad.gif

I just wish there was an easy way to connect say a PS3 controller to an iPhone without jailbreaking the phone, that and I wish any of the old TXR games for PS2/XBOX360 were available on PSN or whatever the XBOX version of the PSN is called.

You can use an USB joystick on Android though.

This whole F2P gig sucks, but it is still Shutokou I guess. And they got the cars to look like they are supposed to unlike Sega. 8 games and they still can't model the FD properly lol

Heh, I wish there was something like that for iPhones, but sadly they only support Bluetooth devices and even then it's limited to certain controllers (for example the Dualshock 3 controller uses Bluetooth, unless I am mistaken and doesn't work with the iPhone).

Here's hoping Genki makes money off of this and they can develop a console game. At the end of the day F2P is great for companies since they can constantly earn money off of gamers rather than a single lump sum they get for a console game. It sucks that pretty much the only avenue of financial success for game development on smartphones, unless you are Square Enix and can get away with charging $15+ for a game, is pretty much F2P or bust; then again I am not sure what the best sort of model would be that would be satisfactory for both developers and gamers.

Personally I am fond of some sort of a subscription service like this one app I use implemented after providing the app free for the first year with certain features locked (you could unlock them with a one-time purchase). The app ended up switching to providing the app for free with simple ads built-in and where if you subscribe to the app ($10 a year) you no longer get any ads and can get future features.

This thing with Genki reminds me of Mistwalker, a studio founded by the Father of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi, and how they stopped developing console titles over the past few years (mostly due to lack of a partner - initially Microsoft funded them and later Nintendo published some of their games) and have been developing smartphone games the last 3-4 years, much to the despair of JRPG fans.

Initially they developed 2 super casual games for iOS - Blade Guardian (a tower defense game) and Party Wave (a surfing game), which cost maybe a dollar or two, but weren't wildly successful. Just over two years ago they launched a pretty decent F2P JRPG called Terra Battle, which is sort of card game-like, and since then they've announced they are developing a new console title, most likely thanks to the financial success of Terra Battle.

It's a shame this is what the TXR franchise has (currently) devolved into. Ironic to how much I'm into pop culture and anime/manga/vidya, that it was actually TXR0 and the eclectic car culture I learned about afterwards that made me a Nipplelandophile.

One of these days, I will drive Tokyo.

Which car are you planning to drive? Send us some pics or vids if you make the trip.

BTW, Genki added the Evo X, the Levorg, the new Civic Type R and the Copen Cero.

The models and graphics are top notch for mobile standards. I'd say even comparable to WMMT 5DX. Comparing the BRZ/86 from the both games:

Those models do look pretty nice. I doubt they'll localise it for outside of Japan, but I can't imagine it would be a lot of work to do it, since this type of game generally lacks dialogue completely.
