I dont know why but after watching the 3rd promo, I felt a hint that the movie may be a bit disappointing. Man, I hate being paranoid... Its probably because of what happened with Spirits Within. It looked awesome on the trailers and sucked pretty bad at the end. |

I thought there wasnt going to be much story untill I saw the third promo. The other ones showed mostly action sequences but the third one goes into the story alittle bit. Just wondering too, why do all the FF games ect have to do with something related to the earth or a creature supposed to a God? It seems like in the last games, you would go after some guy who was related to you somehow and then have to fight them, make them your friend then fight some guy who is the creator of everything. There are always 5 main bosses or something. Its cool , but pretty predictable. I kinda thought that some of the last bosses in the games looked very similar. You can always tell too cause they have gray or Silver hair. Its there in FF7, I forget who was the main enemy in 8 so that might not be true, but then it was there in 9, and 10... I didnt play much befor so I cant speak for anything else. -Eric |

Squaresoft (also known simply as Square) is one of the largest names in gaming today. Their name alone sells the consoles they make games for. Over the past 16 years they've come to make such popular series like Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, SaGa Frontier, Mana, and of course the Chrono series. Square's distinct style of RPGs first appeared in 1987 with Final Fantasy for NES (the game didn't make it to the US until 1990). While Square made dozens of RPG's in Japan after that, it wasn't until 1991 with Final Fantasy IV (II in the US) that Square gained it's reputation for great RPGs. Square's other games on SNES helped to further solidify Square with such games as Final Fantasy VI (III in the US), Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana. Because of this and up until this point all of Squares games were Nintendo console exclusive, Nintendo and Square worked together on yet another smash hit, Super Mario RPG. Unfortunently, Square's close relationship with Nintendo came to an abrupt end when Square announced that Final Fantasy VII would be going to Sony's PlayStation instead of the Nintendo64 because Nintendo continued to use the cartridge format which wouldn't allow for all the FMV sequences that the games creators wanted to use. Not only did this sever a 10 year old friendship between the 2, it helped shove PSX to an incredible success over Nintendo's console. Nintendo held a strong grudge against Square for the next 5 years. In 2001 Square took their first (and unfortunetly last) shot at making a full length motion picture called Final Fantasy : The Spirits Within. While the movie itself was fantastic, it saw very low income and nearly put Square out of business. To help make sure their favorite 3rd party developer didn't go down and out, Sony made a large investment into Square estimated to be about 20% of the company. Taking the world (and especially Sony) by surprise, in early 2002 Nintendo and Square announced that they would be working together once again. While there aren't many details as of yet, it seems that Square is interested in using the unique ability that the Nintendo GameCube and the GameBoy Advance have to connect to each other. This would be the first time in Square's history that they were multi-console developers. Although they never sold well, Square did take a few ventures away from the RPG genre with such titles as Rad Racer, Bushido Blade, Chocobo's Dungeon, The Bouncer, and a few more. All were unfortunently met with very limited success. Square will likely only be ever known for their RPGs. In the near future, Square's got even more up their selves. Square will take it's first steps into online gaming with one of the first console MMORPGs, Final Fantasy XI, and is expected to be out late 2002 or early 2003. Square is collaborating with Disney of all companies, to make the unique game Kingdom Hearts, which fill feature characters from both the Disney universe and the Final Fantasy universe. Chrono Break, SaGa Frontier III, and Final Fantasy XII are also in Square's near future, but there's little to no information about either of them. |
