Initial D Final Stage Official Trailer:

Animax announced on March 1st that Initial D Final Stage will be available starting on May 16th, 2014 on its new subscription VOD (Video On Demand) service which allows subscribers to watch all the latest anime series. Initial D Final Stage will start right after where Fifth Stage left off. There are a total of four episodes that makes up this mini stage.

Opening and Ending theme had also been announced. To our surprise, they are using two of m.o.v.e's unreleased tracks. The OP will be Outsoar The Rainbow and the ED will be Days. The OP also happens to be the same theme song they use for Initial D Arcade Stage 8 Infinity. For those of you that follows the forums, you'll know that m.o.v.e disbanded as of March 2013. Initial D just isn't the same without m.o.v.e. Maybe the producer also thinks the same way, hence the songs choice.

avex announced on November 6th, 2013 in a flyer found inside the Initial D Manga Vol.48, that Initial D Final Stage will be released in Spring 2014. Initial D Final Stage is a mini anime series that takes place right after the end of Fifth Stage. The mini series will show the long-awaited final fierce downhill battle between Takumi's 86 and Shinji's 86.

"mini animated series" means multiple OVA ??

I thought just one 60-90 min long would be enough for just 1 race that lasted a single run ... perhpas there is hope for a more conclusive ending than in manga

Yes. It's a placeholder image until we get an actual image from Final Stage.

Good thing too. Otherwise the animation has taken a step back from Fifth Stage, which is not good at all

I am interested to see if it will differ in any way and how it will be presented. The next year will be Initial D overload, then moving onto production of the next live action movie for 2015. It's all very exciting.

For the most part the anime hasn't deviated that much from the manga, for example the order of races differ in First Stage (Ryosuke vs Takumi, then Takumi vs Impact Blue, then Kenta vs Takumi, then the races with Emperor), the race with Wataru is different (Wataru loses concentration because he is low on gas when Takumi passes him and there is no dirt that has been worn down or anything) and of course the short bit with Itsuki going on a date with Natsuki's friend in First Stage doesn't happen.

Pretty much besides the order of the races in First Stage the changes have been fairly minor.

True, I guess it's hard to add or create something that isn't there, I guess it's all about who makes the decisions at the top. Doesn't seem like a lot of content to make an OAV, I suppose they could pad out the bits in between maybe they will go into the Extra content in the manga.

Considering how much manga content was left out of 5th Stage, I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for extra content. But then again.. They have added extra things in the past such as the Ryosuke vs. Takumi race that takes place in Third Stage. So who knows...

I really do hope they add some more stuff though.

I was about to ask what was cut then I remember they removed Keisuke's races. To this day that still puzzles me since the races were animated for Battle Stage 2, even though they were short.

Although I will ask, what did they cut from Fifth Stage?

The best freaking scene from the manga--Takumi dodging a multi-car wreck on the highway in the Subaru on his way home from the beach with Mika. Basically a bunch of actual 'plot' was cut out in favor of just focusing on races.

It had the potential to be First Stage. Instead it barely escaped being Fourth Stage all over again... and at least Fourth Stage had decent animation and sound effects.

No. NO. NOPE. Not gonna let you say that. No way. I don't care how faithfully they adapted the plot and executed the animation, there is no way Fifth Stage could ever have been remotely near as good as First Stage. First Stage is a masterpiece. The story that Fifth Stage was adapted from is absolute drivel and suffered from one of the most extreme cases of villain-of-the-week I've ever seen in any story ever. For every fun moment there were five boring ones. For every genuine plot development there were ten rehashes. There was a single volume I flipped through on Perry's request way back when Mika was first introduced for the purposes of promoting her appearance on IDW. It was the only part of the manga post-Fourth-Stage-content that I ever read.

That single volume, to my shock, had actual PLOT and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT rather than just racing shit. I was like wow, so this is where Fifth Stage is gonna go? Sweet! Aaaaaaand then the one scene from the manga I loved, the one fucking scene... was cut out along with a bunch of other crap. Thanks, Avex!

And I refuse. Not until I get around to actually reading the entire thing from start to finish. We'll see.

That's the release date for the The Trilogy Movie Part 1, not Final Stage. There is no confirmed release date for Final Stage other than "Spring 2014."

The biggest thing I think they missed out of 5th stage is the Bunta & Kai's Father talk at the lake and Ryosuke & Shinigami built up was pretty lack luster. I haven't read past 5th stage but I hope they don't miss out on such interesting (but not nessesary) points like that.

As we all know Final Stage is going to be wrapping up a few loose ends for those who have not read the manga.

One of the more interesting points being a race between Takumi and Keisuke.

Well of course there is going to be one , Project D IS about them after all .. and well if you wana know whats going to happen......

I do wonder what they intend to fit into those four episodes. Are they going to go back and re-introduce the lead up to Takumi and Shinji? Or will they add more content after their race? It's unlikely that the race will take 4 episodes alone.

First post updated with title of ACT.1. The first episode's title is called "Natural" Most likely referring to Shinji as he's more of a "natural" driver than Takumi was.

More natural than Takumi? So he must have drove that car and his touge even more than Takumi drove Akina.

I got some more shocking things to reveal. In the soundtrack list of Initial D Fifth Stage, you have the car sounds of almost all cars of Fifth Stage.
Then, the second last Boost Sound is this one: AE86 Sound

I think it's Shinji's AE86, because there aren't any other 4AGE in Fifth Stage with the standard sound. But what scares me, is that when you hear the engine revving: after that he takes off. Assume he goes full throttle, it takes about 9 seconds before the speed chime rings = 0-100 km/h (0-62.14mp/h)!!

So that means that the engine should be around 130-140 HP! Okay, I know that this only counts for the car it was recorded with. Still, shouldn't they have used a faster sounding car, or was 140HP enough?

Have to disagree with some of you guys. When I first watched 5th stage piece by piece, I 'initially' (pun intended) thought it was crap and like many felt the quality had fallen. However, I watched the marvelous Blue-ray versions in one sitting and was blow away by it.

It's translated better. The picture and sound quality is very good. Some of the character animations do falter, but unless its a Madhouse production, most serial anime tends to be like this. The subtlety of the 3D cars is spot on.

Which brings me to the Shinigami race. It's easily in my top three Initial D races and solidifies Ryosuke as a bad ass. It's edited dramatically. The sound design and soundtrack made it a spectacle, even though I knew how it was going to turn out.

There was not that much character development in the 5th stage manga to begin with, so I didn't expect much in the anime.

I suggest a re-watch using the Blue-ray version and see how well it plays out vs. the forced two episodes a month thing.

Animax just released a new 25-second trailer for Initial D Final Stage. It seems the character design is a bit better than Fifth Stage. The racing scenes look absolutely gorgeous. I am definitely looking forward to these four final episodes!!

Okay please don't yell at me if this has already been answered somewhere, but is this in addition to the three part trilogy of movies (which are suppose to be in third stage format) which the first part begins in August. So the final stage will overlap the first of the trilogies?

Because for that ending, they had to update the models for:
EK9, Miata NA, Cappuccino, S2000, FD3S (to make the old one and for Kyoko's), AE86 Levin, and R34

And make new models for:
SW20, Evo III, Sileighty

They also made new environments, at least for Akina and Irohazaka. The assumption I'm making is that it's useless to put in effort for these new and updated models if they're only going to be used for a little part at the end credits, so this studio may use these new models to make more? I really like this new style - the racing feels very aggressive, with the blurred backgrounds and camera shaking when cars pick up speed.

i think there will be a remaster project goin on with all brand new 3d racing scene or a superbly done all battle stage by the looks of the final stage ending ost. seems like some of the parts already finished. hope there will be more and the not included battle in the anime get real interpretation.

still i am waiting for RAW meat of FINAL STAGE
