The official site has been updated. Specs are now out, and Digital Foundry released some videos today that detail just a few things this console is capable of.

Basically, it's what MS promised they'd deliver, and more. The console is designed to output the equivalent of PC ultra settings. It will allow most titles to run at native 4K/60fps, unless the game is hard locked to 30fps, in which case it will use all of that power to keep the game at 30. According to Digital Foundry, the console can optimize existing titles via identifying and "solving" bottlenecks to make them run better. The problem with the setup, though, is that Scorpio doesn't use the same chipset as the Xbox One, so it requires a unique software profile in order to run older games. This is basically backwards compatibility to run same-generation games.

Price hasn't been set, but with the hardware included, guesses are it will be somewhere in the $500 range. I for one am stoked.

The specs look pretty good. I find it hilarious how it supports 4K Blu Rays whereas the PlayStation 4 Pro (or whatever it's called) doesn't.

I'm not being biased here, but I think the PS4 Pro was a dud, especially when it came out a few months after the Xbox One S, which could play 4K Blurays out of the box. I believe the specs were thought up and finalized before 4K BR playback was considered a desirable feature in the marketplace.

Honestly, I don't really care about 4K. I don't plan on buying a TV that can handle that resolution for quite a while. What really matters to me is performance, and the current consoles are starting to have problems handling the games that were supposedly meant for them. A workhorse console is what I want.

Yes!! I'm pretty stoked about this. Just excited about the processor and how great it should run.

4K 60fps and barely taxing the GPU. Turn10 apparently was "shocked" that the console was able to optimize the game with only two days of coding an emulation profile.

ohmy.gif Man that looks amazing. This probably would be the one time i decide to get a steering wheel and pedals to play a racing game on Console with how good it's going to run plus 4k. I'll just need to purchase a 4k tv.

Here's the Scorpio Dev Kit.

Apparently the VR kit for the system will be coming via the partnership with AMD.

That looks pretty awesome and pretty crazy and impressive that they were able to optimize their game for Scorpio so quickly.

The more I read about Project Scorpio the more I've come to realize that Sony dropped the ball with the PS4 Pro.

No they didn't. It was made as a "1.5" generation console to apply to the new 4K TV crowd, just like the Xbox One S (albeit without a UHD bluray drive). The big issue for Sony is that they aren't making something to counter the Scorpio... or they ARE and have it under secrecy until E3 or something.

Honestly, I don't really care about 4K.

The specs on this thing are incredible ohmy.gif ... it's like Microsoft remembered that Windows is the primary platform for gaming & built a console around that concept. wub.gif

Amen on 4K brother, I just care about FPS ~ resolution's fine at 1080 in my book. But yeah the specs & projected launch price is giving Sony a run for their money.

These updates are making the line between console generations more blurry as it seems incremental hardware updates are the thing now. Joined the 8th generation less than a year ago and have no plans of getting a PS4 Pro or Scorpio. But 4K gaming and VR just don't have my interest yet.

Do they need to? I'm more interested in a GPU chipset strong enough to actually handle current games at a solid framerate instead of bogging down like they constantly do on existing consoles. I don't have a 4K TV, I don't care about VR in the slightest. I just want the best experience.

Hardly. I'm content with 1080p at a smooth/steady framerate and even then, a few rough edges when it comes to consoles gaming doesn't bother me too much. Seeing more done to improve heat dissipation is an other area I like to see.

There are a few types of games (flight simulators) I'm curious to experience VR on but they're strictly PC.

No they didn't. It was made as a "1.5" age comfort to apply to the new 4K TV swarm, much the same as the Xbox One S (but without an UHD bluray drive). The huge issue for Sony is that they aren't making something to counter the Scorpio... or on the other hand they ARE and have it under mystery until E3 or something.
