No matter how hard he tries, he still can't draw women. At least, not as well as he could over a decade ago.

I dunno, definitely an improvement from Initial D IMO.

It's that ...
Buying these manga, give me the desire to seriously learn the Japanese language. I started 4 month ago but i can't memorize the Hiragana/Katakana.

Honesty, I saw that and went "Isn't that just Ryosuke in a girl's uniform?"

I felt the same thing here, I thought his artwork for his female characters would reflect his heroine in this one and that other one he did recently... I guess not ha ha...

Fail/10 would not read this garbage.

This proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that Mechanical Engineering majors need more anatomy classes in their curriculum~ wink3.gif

Shigeno has all of five faces in his repertoire.

If he would do what the author of Golgo 13's done for the past 30 years, ie. just putting his name on the manga and letting a progression of assistants/artists take over his work; I could totally see Initial D lasting another 20+ years. w00t2.gif

It doesn't matter if it's not the same characters or country anymore; I could totally see the Initial D franchise turn into something like JoJo's. After all, it is the most renowned car manga/comic in the world. I certainly hope it returns in one form or another, under Shige-sensei or not~ biggrin.gif

Edit:

Bunta doesn't really count as a face... it's just a block of cheese with two horizontal lines at font size 50 and a cigarette that says 'yare yare'.

That would have been great, though it's funny that one of his students/assistants was George Morikawa, the guy who has been doing the boxing manga Hajime no Ippo for over 25 years and somehow has been able to keep that manga interesting.

Ha ha, but aren't most of these mangaka sort of like that (maybe with a slightly larger repertoire of faces lol)?

Posted by: Tessou Nov 30 2015, 12:53 PM
I can think of a few manga where everybody looks similar, but a lot of them have a wide variance of faces instead of resting on a scant few like Shigeno.

True, it's a little sad though, especially when you look at his pre-Initial D stuff and you can recognize a character as looking like Mako, Nakazato or Ryosuke.

Funny thing is he apparently worked as a character designer on some random robot direct to video thing in the 80's called http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=3362.

Ha ha, even if we have a Ryosuke in a dress, I'd still be interested to read it and see how it compares to other baseball manga I've read; although it'll probably fall short, since the ones I've read are the Adachi ones like Touch and H2 which are masterpieces IMHO.
