Does anybody here know why the shop closed down a few years back?

And are they ever going to rebuild it?

The shop closed down because the owner retired, and because tofu shops don't make profits in this day and age. And no, it'll never be rebuilt.
There's a car museum in Gunma where you can still see the storefront though, plus an 86 replica parked in front of it.

It's sad to hear that, Thanks for the info. Kinda makes me wish I was born in the late 70's so I could enjoy it while it was still around.

Now that's something that I've gotta see before I die smile.gif

The building was demolished back in 2010, sadly.

For more info, I'd recommend reading Noriyaro's article:
http://noriyaro.com/2010/09/tofu-no-more-t...u-ten-location/

If you ever go to Shibukawa / Ikaho, you can still see lots of the scenery and locations appearing on the original manga/anime, like the Shibukawa JR train station, the gas station where the main characters work, the Ikaho stone steps and the shrine, and of course the infamous Mt. Akina (Mt. Haruna), the lake and vending machines, etc.

I'd recommend this trip to any true Initial D fan. Also, you can experience one of the best onsen areas in Japan smile.gif

Man, so many feels after writting this.
