Earlier today I pulled out of my neighborhood. At the light ahead I see the mid sized wing and exhaust. Very nice and clean white EVO8. I pull up on the left of him, as im slowing down to a stop I blip the throttle and blow off in his face. He revs back and we smile and give the head nod to each other. He has a hot asian chick riding shot, shes smiling and has that "oh no.." look on her face. "Damn finally I get to run one of these things", im thinking to myself. Damn it has been awhile since Ive actually ran anyone. The road is perfectly straight for one mile and no traffic. I look at the stop light opposite me and see it change from green to yellow. I rev to 4grand and start blippin to get the turbos to prespool alil...I look at him and he is doing the samething. lol Light goes green..BOOM...I get off a perfect launch on 295/35 18 tires and he still puts 2 cars on me right out the hole. What a fukin sling shot this car is. As I shift to second that lead stops at a instant. My heart felt like it lept out my chest..I actually thought I was done for. I almost felt embarressed right then and there. End of second he is one car ahead. Third, I blow by him like he is standing still. I run to the middle of 4th(100mph)... It just started to get ugly, he really wassint catching up and the car length were really piling on..I shut down. I stop at the next light to make a left and he goes straight and waves. Best kind of races are the ones where both partys(win or lose) are kool. Damn I really thought these cars would have more then that even if he was bone stock..my friends turbocharged Integ gave me a better run. Well im sure with some mods and more boost it should be a monster. Now I need to look for a STi.

I have a 94 Supra. Striaght pipe, exhaust, vpc, fmic, and the boost was raised to about 17-18psi. Yea I know I have way more power then him. But still I didnt expect to pass him that fast in 3rd. It was almost like his car shut off. After I got a good car on him, I let off for a millisecond to see if he was still trying...his car inched forward alil and I can hear his exhaust howling. I got right back on it and parked his ass. 1st and 2nd gear my car doesnt hit full boost...3rd and 4th full boost is hit, these are the Supras strongest gears...5th gear is even close to 1:1 ratio. Pretty much why these cars are animals on the highways. Ah well..it feels good to run one. It is so risky down here in San Diego to race anymore. We are the only city in the country that has a special police division dedicated to street racing, sure is hard to find anyone who is willing to run now-a-days.

Heres a pic of my ride:

I dynoed my car awhile back, over a year ago. It put down 442rwhp and 472rwtq. I was running race gas and up'd the boost to about 20psi. For the street I run 16psi most the time..on occassions I leave it at 18psi. We get crappy 91oct gas and it is killing me..i can feel the timing getting takin out and the car gradually gets slower each time. I know its risky so I dont consistently race or stay in boost at that level for long periods. Resetting the ECU always sets everything back to default..sucks having to pop the hood and do that everytime.
I also have Tien 16 way adjustable coilovers, a set of the sticky potenzas, strut tower bars, and a race/street alignment. This sucker feels like it is on rails! happy.gif

yeah, u get that with AWD. Your car sounds (and looks) awesome, and it belongs in the user gallery!

Im glad you won, a twin turbo six running 18 psi should shit on an evo. 442 rwhp is AWESOME.

One day, my car will be like that happy.gif

In Livermore we started getting chased by the police helicopters from Oakland. biggrin.gif I heard on some import street racing forum that Livermore was #2 for best city and cars to race. Milpitas was #1. That was a year ago. Now all we do is party every weekend and do the stoplight warrior thing when we can, anything that we try to organize gets broken up immediately. Street Racing used to be fun, never had any problems and then that damned Fast and the Furious Movie came out and it went downhill from there. sad.gif
Oh, yeah. 91 octane is gay. Maybe I should start running straight 100 octane in the Cobra, I finally found a 76 station that sells that and 110 octane. I'll have to get my other bank on my chip burned for running higher octane fuel, then I could switch back and forth. smile.gif
I haven't found any Evo's or STI's that will race me. sad.gif

Solid we used to have good ol days like that as well. Back when people from LA, riverside, and Bernadino used to come down...there where times it reached over 500 cars over 1000 people and 3 different hot spots around SD. And that would go on til the break of dawn. When that started to be a bust, me and the supra homies would head to the domestic runs. That was even more fun, Supras, DSMs, and MR2s were the only cars that got any respect out there and we were happy to hang with their crowd. The cops left the domestic scene alone for YEARS.

Now it is a different story down here. They bust everyone! They passed several new laws in SD county. 1st offense they take your car right away for a month, and you pay the impound fee. 2nd offense they take your car for good and you can not get it back..doesnt matter who the cars under. Now they give you a ticket just for being a spectator. The illegal races here are dead..youll be lucky to find a hand full of people. The only thing left are the street legals at the stadium at night..and that is only 1/8th mile. dry.gif Last I heard they had over 3000 people spectating there. LOL laugh.gif 15 bucks to run and youll be lucky to get 2 passes in with so many damn cars that go.

would it REALLY be that hard for the cops to close a street, and say "race here, have fun, keep it off the roads"?

The cops don't do that, but the people at Qualcomm Stadium do. But it's only an 1/8th mile drag. They also have auto-x's at the Q still but running auto-x has gotten a bit too pricy for me. So I just go karting at Miramar Speedcircuit now laugh.gif

The cops actually used to put rubber speed bumps on the roads where people constantly raced.

The Q fukin sucks. I hate that place. Those stupid cone tracks are for small rides like miatas and hachis...fastest youll ever go is 50mph. 1/8th mile...please, i wont even reach 4th gear at the end of that track. The next best thing is Carlsbad...and that is just one big ass shit hole in itself. The stands are more dangerous then the track! Hey Alex ill run you at Miramar! hahaha

1slowsupra you live up in mira mesa area right? i think you said that before. anyways, me n the homies use a road up there for speeds, not racing or anything, we just go for speed. but i think the road is called scripps poway parkway or something, out near pomerado, thats kinda more poway area though. but its a really really nice road, 2 lanes for about 6-7 miles, there is a stretch where its perfectly flat and 3 lane for about 3 miles. its pretty fun. when it goes down to 2 lanes, there are some gradual curves, but thats a fun road. gotta be going eastbound to hit those parts.

Ahhh yes I know this road very well. Ive hit 160 down the road past community. laugh.gif Just becareful of the blind intersections and obstructions when you fly through there. What I dont like about that place are the Poway Sheriffs. They are complete A holes. So many bad experiances with them i am way uncomfortable just cruising through Poway.

If you are into serious fast driving, head North on the 5 towards Del Mar...exit East to Carmel Valley/56(right before Del Mar). Youll hit a nice strech of newly paved freeway for 4 miles..which turns into some canyon style winding roads for 4 miles...follow the turns and signs onto 56/Ted Williams Freeway for the long straight for a 6 mile blast into Poway. Alot more room and less obstructions, and you can see where possible cops may hide. Couple of my friends have 6-800hp cars and have hit over 190 here. blink.gif Great place to test, tune, and compare cars.

There are some nice roads out next to the Indian casinos, Baronas especially. I've stopped going there though since everytime we have a meet there someone messes up there car. Just overall bad luck, but really fun nonetheless.

hahaha I'm always down to go karting. I go usually on Wednesdays or Thursdays at night.

We had the same thing going on, the Domestic races hardly ever got broken up, but they always got the imports.
We got the same laws up here, too. I think it's the same all over California.
I get my racing fix now by going to Sacramento Raceway, or taking Caleveras Canyon every Friday evening in my Toyota Pick-up. laugh.gif

this run sounds so familiar to mine. My buddy just bought a brand new, 2004 STI, so i decided to race him to see where my 240 stands. Beat him, 2 outta 3 races (2nd race was where I lost since I launched too high, like 5 grand, and my tires were spinnin for days while he took off...AWD launches are viscious man). But ya....no matter how good a launch I got...feathering the throttle to minimize wheel spin, he'd always get me out of the hole, really knew how to launch his car, but when i hit 3rd gear, i'd just leave him.

Ya, for our cars, turbo lag is a b*tch....but once we get to the taller gears (3rd, 4th) we can ride out our power band and make cars like the STI and Evo8 look like they are standin still. Top end man.

Sounds like u can take an STI, but u never know....same goes for me....i'm not gonna underestimate any evo8 i come across even thou i took an STI.

BTW, i'm runnin a 1991 240sx notchback with a 1997 S14 sr20 with a HUGE list of goodies, open downpipe and c16 race gas along with no spare tire and I took out my amps and subs (just for the run), on BFG's G-force KD's with 16x8 volk gram lites up front with 16x9 gram lites in the rear. Boost was set at approx. 10psi

car makes approx. 278-284whp....and aprox low to mid 13's with the possibilities of high 12's if i get an LSD, crank the boost to 1 bar and get some good drag radials.

How are the races there in SD btw, land of the RX-7's, supras, and street bikes from the last time i was there (lol, ure car fits right in, ahaha, much better than the races around these parts)? But i only stopped by to visit some friends and didnt have my car yet. I wanted to stop by sometime soon since a couple of my friends want to hit up carlsbad to test out there cars. I wouldnt mind doing that either so i can use a cutout or go open downpipe. Although I prefer the fontana track, they dont allow cars to race that are "uncorked."checkin out the races in SD is like an added incentive for goin all the way down there in an attempt to get my car into the 12's.

Yeah, basically when people ask me "how're the races in SD? I hear they're crazy", Ic can only reply with "what races?". Actually people still race here and there. Nowhere near as public as it used to be,

Alex

PS: Don't ask yourself if you can take the Evo8 or the 04STi on the straights...you gotta ask yourself, "can I take the SRT-4???!" hahaha

It is hard to get a good launch on a evo8.The clutch is tricky on that, but it likes to be shifted around redline. Now if the scenario was different, and you were going through a bunch of sharp turns, your supra would have been eaten alive.
