The Washington Post - The average American woman now weighs as much as the average 1960s man
Reddit - American Females today weigh as much as American Males did during the 1960s & 70s
CDC - Anthropometric Reference Data for Children and Adults: United States, 2007–2010
CDC - Adult Obesity Facts
takepart - Here Are the Most Obese—and Slimmest—Countries in the World
CIA - COUNTRY COMPARISON :: OBESITY - ADULT PREVALENCE RATE
WHO - GLOBAL STATUS REPORT on noncommunicable diseases 2014

For those of us between 20-29 years-old in the US, the average female is 161.9 lbs (64.2" tall) and the average male is 183.9 lbs (69.4" tall).

It's already common knowledge, but the US also ranks pretty high of countries with the highest obesity rate.

Statistical evidence that I'm internationally accepted as both short and fat. Yay.

But yeah, we're going to have a significant increase in health issues within the next century. ~30 lbs increase in the past 50 years. Increased body fat percentage --> increased visceral fat --> increased chance of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, dementia, etc. Look forward to a rapid increase in health care premiums... as if they weren't high enough already.

It's a scary thought.

Is it bad I was significantly more concerned about the typo in the thread title than the actual content?

Depends on which list you're looking at and when it was put together. I've seen in some places that Mexico ranks 1st and the USA ranks 2nd in obesity of "large" countries (large by population or land mass, I have no idea let alone what criteria makes it large). The CIA ranks USA 18th and Mexico 23rd, so I'm guessing one of them is a little out of date.

It's also genetics for Mexicans and African Americans as to why they have problems. Us (Mexicans) have a high rate of diabetes from all the sugary shit we drank/ate all those centuries ago (with the help of the Spanish as well.), for now I'm lucky to not be hit with diabetes but I'm sure that'll change later on in my 30s-40s.

But it's typical, or every country has a influx or things, we had a big weightloss/staying fit trend in the 80s/early 90s then it was MURICA FUCK YEAH until a few years back with us being back in the healthy trend thing. Nothing to be so concerned about. sad.gif

I fail to grasp why the CIA would be biased. The only thing they ever did was beg NSA for information about stupid shit every other week when I was working between them. laugh.gif

I can see that. Depends on how obesity is measured, sample size, etc. Lots of variables.

APX: Yep. Quote from the CDC: "Non-Hispanic blacks have the highest age-adjusted rates of obesity (47.8%) followed by Hispanics (42.5%), non-Hispanic whites (32.6%), and non-Hispanic Asians (10.8%)"

Also:

"Among non-Hispanic black and Mexican-American men, those with higher incomes are more likely to have obesity than those with low income.
Higher income women are less likely to have obesity than low-income women.
There is no significant relationship between obesity and education among men. Among women, however, there is a trend—those with college degrees are less likely to have obesity compared with less educated women."

I'M FAT AND not proud about it actually... I hate the fact that I can't fit into anything at my waist size. Its annoying, these statistics don't surprise me. I look at the youth every day and I see how sedentary their lifestyle is, coupled with the garbage they eat; most of us are fat.

Yeah, I hate having to wear large clothes when I have a medium frame. Boots are the worst: it's difficult to rent boots for snow sports because of my large calves.

In related news, the FDA bans trans fats.

QUOTE
Trans fats are used by food makers to improve taste, hold artificial coloring and make foods last longer. They have, however, been linked to heart disease, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest says they cause about 50,000 fatal heart attacks each year. They can also raise the levels of harmful LDL cholesterol, which can build up in people's arteries.

Basically, it clogs up your circulatory system so that blood, oxygen, and other resources can't get to where it's needed. Bad stuff.
