Definately the prequel it happens during that "Global war" thing they speak of in Macross. The one where everyone was at war with each other while the macross was being built. This series was WAY to short. I know its hard with the computer animation but man its the best macross series SINCE Macross... The other ones just dont' compare except for the original ofcourse. I wish it'd focus a BIT more on Roy Fokker but its all in all pretty good. | ||

Well since people are asking whats it is about then here it is (source: animenfo.com): Anime : Macross Zero Category OVA Total Episodes 5 (5 x 30 mins) Genres Action, Mecha, Science-Fiction Year Published 2002 Studio Bandai Visual US Distribution Available on Fansub User Rating 9.2/10.0 (114 reviews) (top 100: # 89) (Statistic) Updated Fri, 27 Dec 2002 22:59:13 -0500 Description It was 1999 when a huge extraterrestrial battleship fell down to the Earth and brought superior technology which led to the beginning of war between U.N and Anti-U.N. Eight years have passed, so many veteran pilots were lost one after another, so even boys in their teens were gathered into the battlefield to fight the war. Shin Kudou, a young U.N F-14 pilot and the main character of the story gets shot down by an unknown enemy ship during a sortie and crash landed on a solitary island. Coincidentally, an unusual energy reaction is detected on the island, and the energy reaction might be originated from the Protoculture's superior technology legacy which was brought by the extraterrestrial at ancient times. This technology legacy is very similar from the recovered fallen extraterrestrial battleship eight years ago. Now, both of U.N and Anti-U.N are going to invade the island for the quest of recovering the legacy and the superior technology it posesses... here is another summary (source animeacademy.com): Title: Macross Zero Genre: Action Company: Bandai Visual Shin is a top U. N. Spacy pilot with ice water running through his veins. His cold, solitary approach to combat has earned him plenty of kills but not the trust of his wingmen. After completing another routine mission, Shin's squadron is suddenly ambushed by a fighter that makes quick work of the unsuspecting pilots. Shin puts up a good fight but is awed by his foe's ability to transform into a human-like robot. Who is this mysterious adversary, and what does this mean for U. N. Spacy's now-outclassed fleet? - summary by Kain Every five years since 1992, a new Macross anime was produced to commemorate the 1982 release of the classic television series. And each of those five years I've salivated like a Pavlovian dog in anticipation. Someone hand me a bib because Macross Zero has arrived. Touted as a prequel set a year before the events in Macross, I went in keeping a scrutinizing eye open for plot holes. So far, I have found none. By being faithful to the original, this anime has slid seamlessly into the timeline with nary a hiccup; good news for us old school fans. The action scenes are done in a breathtaking style that can't be explained with words. My one wish is that the CG would look less, well, like CG. In that respect, Macross Plus is still the franchise king of excellent choreography and gorgeous action, but Macross Zero comes pretty close. The bulk of the first OVA is spent introducing its heroes and philosophies, so it remains to be seen to what extent the story and characters will be fleshed out... but so far I like what I see. |
