Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Initial D Music > Anyone have info on eurobeat artists??

Posted by: Ds650rida Jul 1 2013, 03:55 AM
I've been searching for info on some of the eurobeat artists featured in the show but results come up with NOTHING. It seems like the only artist that has any albums outside of the super eurobeat series is Dave Rodgers. From what wikipedia tells me, all these artists are just multiple projects of a stray few dj's. Anyway i'm looking mainly for information on Fastway but any other artist info will be usefull. Thanks

Uh... what artists do you want to know more about?

Posted by: Ds650rida Jul 1 2013, 04:59 AM
Fastway, digital planet, mega nrg, norma sheffield. To name a few, any really or maybe a source to find information for myself

Eurobeat Prime is a good source for basic info. I can write a bit about Mega NRG Man and Norma Sheffield when I get back home.

You have the name of the vocalist, if known, for the track you want. I can't stress this enough.

However, as I can see, you are asking to know about the artist's backstory. Not much of info is available except for the big names.

Also, Nuage has also her album.

That depends on how you define "big name".

Cool thanks a lot. I was mainly trying to get a backstory on fastway to find out if it was a duet or not because a lot of songs have a female vocalist singing backup

If I remember correctly, Christine provided backup vocals on many a Fastway track...like "Number One"...the remake even featured her name in the title. Backup vocalists get pretty mysterious sometimes.

The early Big Names that is... Dave Rodgers (G. Pasquini), Davide Di Marcantonio, Clara Moroni, etc, etc, etc. Too lazy to name more. However, today, because Eurobeat is becoming more and more underground, the new vocalists tend to hide their identitiy and past a lot. For those who stay, well, we can only make their "story" from the titles they released.

So for the artists you mentioned, here's what I can share on them (briefly, not a full biography)...

Fastway

Fastway's real name is Ennio Zanini. He first got started in 1999 on Double Records, which was a sublabel of A-Beat C at the time. He is currently 48 years old and was born in Brescia, Italy.

Here's a video of him in the studio.

Digital Planet

Digital Planet's real name is Stefano Brandoni. He first got started in 2003 on A-Beat C. He's also known as Spock, famous for "The Fire's On Me". There's not a lot of information about him that I can share other than that he appears to be a guitarist.

Here's a video of him playing live... but the audio was replaced for some stupid reason. I have the original video, though, so let me know if you want it.

Mega NRG Man

Mega NRG Man, aka Derrick Simons, is vocalist Tomas Marin. He is from Spain and currently resides in Switzerland. There aren't many pictures of him online, maybe only three that I know of, so he's one of the more elusive artists in the Eurobeat world (which is a shame because he's one of my favorites). I know that he has a child.

His first single was in 1988, and can be heard here. You might be familiar with that song already, because it was re-recorded as a Eurobeat song and released on volume six of his SEB Special Collection series. At some point in the 2000s, he was making "healing music". Probably new-age stuff. There was a fansite for him on Geocities, but that's long gone now. It had a really cool interview with him on it, which I seriously wish I saved.

A video of him in the studio can be seen here.

Norma Sheffield

Francesca Contini is the daughter of Alberto Contini, who is the co-founder of A-Beat C along with Dave Rodgers. Her first single, "Your Body Lies", was the first record in A-Beat C's catalog. There are only four pictures of her known (by me, at least) to exist and no video. There is no contact information for her available anywhere on the Internet. She has sung on a few songs on the Vibration label under the name Sharon K, and the only other alias she's sung under is Sonya for the track "It's A Miracle" on A-Beat C in 1993.

Pictures viewable at Discogs.

There's Maurizio De Jorio, best known as Max Coveri, D. Essex, and Marko Polo, among others. You might know him from his songs like Golden Age, Running in the 90's, Night of Fire (as Niko), Speedy Speed Boy, etc.

The thing is, there's lots of aliases like Derreck Simons who have had multiple artists behind the name. Tomas Marin has used Derreck Simons most often, but De Jorio has used it before too (back before Marin used it, that is). It can be extremely confusing for casual fans who don't do the extensive digging and research that's required to know these things.

Well, I guess some research is needed. I just removed that little reference to Simons to avoid confusion.

Sonya for the track "It's A Miracle" on A-Beat C in 1993.

Double Records, which you tried to suggest was a very small part of Rodgers & Contini Records company until 1994, just complementing A.Beat-C. regular discography... Only several songs were released under that sublabel. According to Avex Catalog Spotlight, SCP label, where you can find Fastway, still belongs today to Rodgers & Contini Records as the existed publisher. So I mean this Double Records in the end of 90s wasn't actually associated with A.Beat-C. anymore.

Francesca Contini is a sister of Alberto Contini, not daugther. And of course we know already she's never sung anything. Norma Sheffield was considered and presented as Sonya, but is very possible, that can be Judy Crystal.

Guys, the topic's 3 years old......

Everybody works for Stefano & Mauro now. Heck, even Stevo Aokies and the Piggyboard Nurdz fly over to Ritmo e Blu to pop a couple of bottles o'Criss everytime they launch a new album on the mean streetz of Osaka Japan. Word has it that Go2 are making a collabo with Zabiela live at Womb Shinjuku Branch on Junevember the 35th for Maxx Matsudaira's birthday party~ awesome.gif !?

Isn't better to dig up very old topic proper to posed question than create new thread? smile.gif Why then neither old topic isn't closed ? Who invents these guidelines ?

Sad, so few fans were asking basical questions once, nowadays nobody. I'm here, active too short unfortunately. But barely 3 years ago there were not any easy find informations? This is just impossible.

Discogs is complemented at least before 2010 with things like Eurobeat albums, well, almost everything what I would call basic.

13 Avex Trax CD albums are on the market since over 25 years from different artists plus much more the same old or older from other publishers. Dave Rodgers never been exception. Today it's non sense to mention all these records and artists. Ah so obvious.

Thanks my friend. Well, I have perhaps some freak kind of enemies who can't reconcile with my frank old-school Eurobeat soul, so with my strong straightforward statements about the current music condition, or can't understand my more serious, rare nowadays activity closer with artists. Sometimes a man can lose nerves and be nasty, have a bad day, but we still like the same music anyhow. Being blocked on Facebook by forum members, who even haven't talked with me privately, didn't get to know me more precisely and what I do positive for the Eurobeat promotion is a "pure drama" laugh2.gif ...

So a bit of a correction I wanted to add which many people don't know; Norma Sheffield is not Francesca Contini. The vocalist's real name is actually Chiara De Pieri. Francesca Contini is a composer and the model for Norma Sheffield.
