Very selective first post there. You're not new if you joined in August, that is, unless you just "forgot" the forums until the 6 month time requirement just ever-so-conveniently happened to come up.

Is nobody else irked by what just transpired here? Is there nothing we can do to prervent dumb shit like this from happening?

Not like its the first time it's happened. Only way to avoid it would be eliminating the 6 month condition and leaving only the 100 posts, but even then people can just go around the forum throwing comments that aren't exactly spam, but not really meaningful/thoughtful either. Some people just don't talk much, including myself. I'm sure like 80-90% of my posts are just between the album and song request threads.

If anything, I'd say maybe make it so that until they meet the requirements, they don't see or have access to certain sections/threads at all. This would at least make it so people can't just join and leech everything right away.

Sendspace prompts me that i'm using a proxy IP to connect to them and disallows me to download! Anyone having this problem too?

maybe a better way to discourage those who are "unworthy yet" to request music is to block off this thread (and maybe other threads of the same kind as well)... and if they are qualified already to request, then i guess a random PM to them by any of the moderating staff (including the admins) containing the subforum password will be more appropriate... so as to minimize such incidents from taking place again...

I'm irked by it but at then same time try not to let it get to me. The rules for requesting here are quite tight enough and our enforcement is quite strict.

Apart from the few lurkers who finally reach the pinnacle of 6-month membership and get the green light to request, I don't think there is much more we can do without making it seem almost impossible to request. I don't want it to get to that point and I don't want IDWF to seem like an unfriendly place.

I say let's keep with the current scheme of things, as things don't reallt get out of hand these days. And for those lurkers who just request and receive, well I'm all about music sharing anyways so if they follow the general rules (i.e. 3 song limit, and 3-day waiting period between requests) then it's all good with me.
