So today I was going to go out on a drive. I put my foot on the clutch turn the key...and I get this sound like a fast typewriter and the lights on my car start blinking really fast...I can't start my car!

Whats wrong?

Sounds to me like you need to charge your battery - try that first and then report back.

Really? the lights inside my car work.

I got a dead battery? I'll check it out.

Short somewhere? Positive strap of the battery contacting the body or something?

Well, the lights inside still work, I've tried turning the key and starting up...but nothing happens.

the lights inside will still work even if your battery doesn't have enough juice to start your car.

charging your battery is a good start.

So if you rarely drive a car the battery is more likely to die?

See I live in a city, and I usually take the bus to get around. But the last time I drove the Subaru was like late november/early december for Christmas Shopping.

LOL, yes, it's the battery!!

Damn, I leave my car for 2 weeks and the battery is nearly dying, let alone nearly 2 months.

When the car is not being used, it still needs to power small things like clocks and alarms, and this all drains the battery... The battery also powers the spark plugs (when not running off the alternator), so if there is not enough juice in the battery, it wont light up the fuel in the cylinders....

Okay, seriously, don't post in this thread again until you've charged the battery and tried it again.

FYI, it is your battery. There's this thing called parasitic draw that cars these days have. Look it up.

Also, change your oil and get new gas. Those go bad after so long, so if you let it sit a long time they start to break down on the molecular level, if you drive a lot, you don't have to deal with that. They recommend you change your oil every 3000 miles or 3 months, but if you don't drive it a lot, you can get away with changing it once a year.

But seriously, it's your battery. It might have enough juice to power your lights, but your starter motor takes a lot more current than lights do. You could get a jump, that'd probably do it.

Just start your engine every day and you won't have as many problems.
