Such as, when you get into a 700bhp car in GT4, with no aids, and you stand on it, it burns out in a straight line, no steering input needed. However, in real life, and Enthusia, when you stomp on a car with more than 500bhp, the car pulls and wants to spin from the power spinning the wheels. If this is touted as "The Real Driving Simulator," it should be as realistic as possible. Also, real tracks eh? Find me Trial Mountain and Mid-Field in real life. Besides, burnouts and donuts are a part of real racing, say you get spun, rather than slam the brakes and slowly turn around, you stomp on it and flick the car around. However, you fail to realize this, and think that GT4 is the be all, end all game, so, if you can live with playing an inferior game, then so be it. |

And, yes, you see burnouts and donuts all the time in F1, DTM, WRC.. and no, I don't think that the GT4 is the best ever. it just happens to be the best PS2 has to offer. |

IDW Full Member Group: Members Posts: 31 Member No.: 23,730 Joined: Mar 24th 2007 Location: Update Profile | I just can't overlook the discussion, so here goes. First, the reason to the flaws of the GT4 physics engine is very simply the limited hardware power. It's a hell of a miracle that the old PS2 can even run a game this good looking and good handling, after all it equals a PC some eight years old when it comes to sheer grunt. Show me any game that has GT4-level graphics and a perfect physics model, and will run on a 300MHz PC with 32MB of RAM. You can't, there is not one. Second, it is widely known that the high speed physics of this game are very good. On par with the more accurate simulators. Not bad, again taking into account the processing power available. And third, doing a burnout like those in your examples 1 & 3 are very possible in GT4, if you have never managed to do done you just haven't tried hard enough or are using a DS2. Having tried to learn controlling oversteering cars with the DFP has definitely showed me that there is not too much understeer, just too much people that overload the front tyres and then blame the game. Call me a fanboy. Feel free to. But after doing that explain me why the cars in LFS feel like there were no tyres at all, only rims. Or why the car feels like it was hovering at high speeds in Enthusia. Of all the driving games I've played, GT4 captures the feeling of the weight of the cars in the most believable way. It's not perfect, nothing is, but still very good. |

I have driven my mom's Durango, and I must say, the experience is almost identical to LFS, just, you have G-Forces now. |

I can tell from personal driving experience, that tires won't puncture and have no grip whatsoever after mere 3 laps with normal tirepressure and normal suspension setup, even if one kicks the tail out in corners. tire life is way exaggerated in LFS, into opposite direction as in GT4. |

Actually the Midfield track was identified to one track in the US that had a similar build. About 1 or 2 years ago I found a thread on some forums where they discussed the tracks and where they were located. Midfield was brought up and was identified. Low speed physics is where GT4 fails, which gets quite obvious if you try to play Gymkhana moves.

Again, where EA's NASCAR series is the most realistic, lol. If only they got EA's NASCAR team, PD, and the three LFS guys to collaborate on a game, it would be the best one out there. Also, I don't think tire life is that exaggerated in LFS, considering the SPEED GT cars run 50min races on the same tires, and they have over 500bhp. Yet, they manage to not be punctured from wearing down. Finally, my mom's Durango has way over 200bhp as well, at 275, lol. This post has been edited by MattSAF1 on May 6 2007, 06:32 AM

Not what's considered "True" donuts, sure, you can swing around, do 180's, etc But you can't floor it while constantly counter-steering, by countering your steering, even if its not that much, the car automatically wants to straighten out, when in real life the body's momentum should keep you spining, with the loss of traction in the rear assisting that. Thats why, But if you still want to try it, get a Evo and TSC (or w/e it is), Set it really strong and you might get lucky if you turn fully in one direction and floor it, or thats what i've heard

I played it at gamestop, boy was it fun. You can't just full throttle the damn thing like what i used to do in GT4 or else you'll spin out or something along the lines of that. and drifting is much much more harder than clutching/handbraking. Of course I couldn't perform my best on the controller as I was used to the wheel. |

The best thing about that is the integrated online ranking system. This way you can find out just how fast (or slow as the case may be) you really are.

i think the exaggerated damage would help you to learn to drive better... is that not a bad thing? go play GPL, you will be amazed at how forgiving LFS is...
