In October, Funimation is releasing First Stage under their "S.A.V.E." label with all the episodes for about $30. The bad thing is, series that go under this label usually are series that didn't sell good. I kind of hope this isn't the case, because they went to the trouble of picking up all 3 series and the movie...

Granted, it's First Stage, so it probably is just one season that didn't do well. At Otakon last year, which was around when Fourth Stage and Third Stage were out, they said the series was doing well, which probably meant those two seasons since First Stage wasn't out yet.

Considering that First Stage looks like complete shit by today's standards, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't sell well. It's a very tough sell to market something with poor animation, unless it's a legacy series like Gundam or Dragonball.

That is true. I don't know if they're going to do SAVE for Fourth Stage and the rest considering their statement from Otakon.

EDIT: November solicits are out and now Second & Third Stage are in a SAVE collection. I guess this means Fourth Stage will follow suit. This probably means we're never going to see Battle Stage 1+2 or Extra Stage 2 in the US, or even a Fifth Stage if it happens. It does give people a chance to buy the series cheap but series that went straight to SAVE from half season sets are pretty much a case of no future seasons being licensed (Big Windup had that happen).

I was about to ask if there was any box sets coming out, but apparently these S.A.V.E. collections are pretty much what I was looking for... thanks!

Yeah. As much of a bad sign as they may be, I bet they will do a little better than the half season sets at least.

They'd still do Fifth Stage if it had enough consumer interest. Battle Stages, no chance in hell.

I feel it would have done better if they had remastered the video footage.
Heck the tokyo pop had better picture qulity for some reason. Just recently got the save sets .

I hope to God someone finishes releasing the other stuff. Especially because at the end of the 4th it didn't seem to close it enough for me.

Really hoping for a 5th stage .

Nope I figured it out,my buddy got the SAVE edition boxsets and said he got Extra Stage 2,and I thought well the 1st edition boxsets say they have Extra Stage 2 as well, but its really Extra Stage 1 split into to two episodes. So he didnt get it and just confused me.I thought Funimation released Extra Stage2 with new SAVE editions they released.

Still would be nice to have both Battle Stages and Extra Stage 2...one can dream happy.gif

No, or otherwise they would've released them with the other stages (about 2 years ago).

Cool story. Did you not notice the banner in the 'add reply' page warning you about what happens when a topic is nearly a year old?

When it comes to anime I'm a traditionalist and watch most everything subbed, but Initial D is one of the few series I love to watch dubbed and funimation did a good job in my opinion.

for me watching initiald d dubbed, isnt as fascinating as the characters speaking japanese. It lost the touch if you get what I mean. But regardless, they did an amazing job in First stage thru Fourth stage. Been going back lately to watch from season 1 to now season 5.
