While rewatching First Stage for the upteenth time recently, a question popped into my head: how interesting would Initial D be if it was told from the perspective of the main character's greatest rival? Thus this was born! Also, I needed a break from brainstorming for Beyond the Horizon. Don't worry, I'm not leaving Perry and his crew behind. I just have to take an extended vacation from them. tongue.gif

Anyhow, I'm still working on the first chapter, but I do have an outline of the RedSuns team as they appear in this story. I really have to thank shadow55419 for the outline of the three original characters. I plan on expanding on them over the course of the story, but they're still the same people at the core! Thank you! happy.gif

I'm not doing all this by myself either! I have Meteor and shadow55419 as my lead proofreaders and technical consultants for this project! Without them I wouldn't have the motivation or courage to go through with this. So thank you guys! I really appreciate it!

So without further delay, the character bios for my take on the RedSuns in Burning Amber! Act 1 will be coming soon, right after I finish the race scene in it!

Characters Bios:

Name: Ryosuke Takahashi
Gender: Male, 23
Appearance: 5’10”, short black hair, if he isn’t in a suit, then it’s a shirt and slacks
Personality: Ryosuke is always calm and collected. As the number one driver and founder of the RedSuns, everyone respects him. He drives using theory and is working on becoming the best street racer in the prefecture. After that, he plans to retire quietly and become a doctor.
Car: Crystal White 1990 Mazda Savanna RX-7 Infini III (FC3S)

Name: Keisuke Takahashi
Gender: Male, 21
Appearance: 5’10”, spiky bleached blonde hair, usually seen in his FD
Personality: Keisuke is hot headed. And that would be putting it nicely. He drives with his emotions, and his passions always boil near the surface. As the number two driver he has a lot of potential to grow in skill. He listens to his elder brother to the best of his ability but cannot understand why Ryosuke would waste so much time in front of a computer.
Car: Competition Yellow Mica 1993 Mazda Ẽfini RX-7 Type R (FD3S)

Name: Takeru Sato
Gender: Male, 22
Appearance: 5’10”, shoulder blade length wavy blonde hair, commonly seen in a t-shirt and jeans
Personality: Takeru is pretty serious about racing. He’s good friends with everyone on the team and willing to listen to advice from his peers. He is often considered as the third fastest on the team and practices with Keisuke to keep himself interested in the challenge of chasing the thunder that roars through the mountain passes.
Car: Pearl White 1990 Nissan Silvia S13

Name: Yamato Yanagasawa
Gender: Male, 23
Appearance: 5’8”, short black hair, usually seen with a thin jacket over a t-shirt and jeans despite the weather
Personality: Yamato is quiet. Really quiet. Almost to the point where he’s almost stoic. He doesn’t speak unless his name is mentioned in conversation and tends to keep to himself. He’ll laugh at maybe one out of every hundred jokes that Junichi might crack. Takeru is his biggest rival since they are both the top contenders for the third fastest seat on the RedSuns.
Car: Hunter Green 1994 Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)

Name: Junichi Kobayashi
Gender: Male, 21
Appearance: 5’8”, shoulder length brown hair, commonly seen in workout gear
Personality: Junichi is comedic when away from his car. He’s always up for a good joke or a team get together after a night of practice. When he’s racing his personality becomes a little more serious as he enjoys playing around with his opponents at the cost of his own performance. He knows he’s the lowest ranked driver on the team when even Fumihiro can beat him.
Car: Glacier White Nissan 1991 180SX

Name: Kenta Nakamura
Gender: Male, 19
Appearance: 5’6”, short black hair, commonly seen following Keisuke around
Personality: Kenta is the newest member of the RedSuns being personally chosen by Keisuke himself. He hasn’t been driving that long, but he shows a lot of promise according to the younger Takahashi. He strives to impress his superiors in any way possible and has since become the unofficial errand boy for the team.
Car: Super Clear Red 1995 Nissan Silvia Q's Aero (S14)

Name: Hiroshi Fumihiro
Gender: Male, 27
Appearance: 5’10”, short black hair, usually seen in a shirt and slacks.
Personality: Hiroshi is the oldest member of the RedSuns, he’s not an active racer and no one refers to him by his first name. He’s the logistics and event planner for the team, taking everything that Ryosuke says and working out the fine details. He has known Ryosuke for a very long time and is to be considered one of Ryosuke’s closest friends.
Car: Metallic Silver 1989 Toyota MR2 GT-S (SW20)

I'm not really juggling two different stories, I'll probably be switching every so often as I get bored writing for just one thing for an extended period of time. Anyway, you guys haven't been begging me for more stuff so I feel no rush to write more. tongue.gif

Anyway, I'm glad that you guys are interested in this concept! With that being said, I hope you guys enjoy the first Act! More to follow soon, and maybe an update for Beyond the Horizon if everyone bugs me enough... shifty2.gif

Act 1. Underestimated

A chorus of cicadas buzzed as the sun set on the mountains. The sky radiated in the brilliant hues of fading sunlight. A parade of seven cars wound their way up Mount Akagi’s pass as the new moon rose from the east. The white Mazda Savanna RX-7 Infini III blasted into the wide hairpin turn at full tilt, its tires smoking and and its engine growling from a gentle purr to a ferocious roar. The young man at the wheel of the car directly behind the FC smirked to himself, “Really Aniki? Well two can play at this game…”

Instinctively he down shifted and threw his yellow Mazda Ẽfini RX-7 Type R into the turn after his brother. The rest of the cars attempted to follow but to no avail, by the time the last car—a silver Toyota MR2—exited the turn the taillights of the yellow FD were out of sight. The driver resigned to his fate and sighed, he flashed his high beams at the rest of his teammates signaling to take it easy the rest of the way up the pass.

Hiroshi Fumihiro let the cool evening air into the car by rolling the driver’s side window of his SW20 down. He listened to the two Rotary Brothers as they wound their way up Mount Akagi. By the time the five cars reached the summit of the mountain, the Takahashi brothers were already out of their cars and enjoying a cigarette and the view of the city lights as another mild summer night settled in. the other five cars consisting of Takeru Sato’s white S13, Junichi Kobayashi’s 180 SX, Yamato Yanagasawa’s hunter green FD, Kenta Nakamura’s red S14, and his own silver MR2 comprised the rest of the Akagi RedSuns; a group of the fastest street racers in the city. As they pulled into the vista point parking lot and got out of their cars Keisuke smirked at the rest of the team, “Took you guys long enough. Aniki and I have been waiting for at least three minutes. Any longer and I would have jumped in my FD to check on you guys.”

Junichi laughed, “Woah now, boss Keisuke showing us some compassion and worrying about us? There isn’t really a need. Fumihiro told us to take it easy the rest of the way after you and Ryosuke took that turn.” He pointed to the man he mentioned with this thumb.
Ryosuke turned his back to the city and looked at the rest of his team, taking a step forward and joining the rest of the men he spoke, “You know why I called you guys out tonight?”

“To finally announce Yanagasawa as the number three driver on the RedSuns?” Junichi joked. The man glanced over at him, surprised at the mention of his name.
Ryosuke smiled, “You might think so, but actually no. You’re here because I’m finally announcing our ‘Fastest in Kanto’ project.” He looked at Fumihiro to relay the rest of the information.

The man silently nodded and stepped forward, “Ok, so you guys know we are the undisputed best here on Mount Akagi. We hold the uphill and downhill records and we’ve been undefeated for two years now. That’s the reason why we have the RedSuns stickers on our cars. We are the best this city has to offer. For quite some time, Ryosuke and I have been contemplating moving on to different mountain passes to challenge the best racers they have to offer and to set a couple of unbeatable records. That is what the ‘Fastest in Kanto’ project is…” He paused, looking at the fleet of racing machines with the proud RedSuns badge emblazoned on their flanks, “So anyone have any objections?”

Takeru grinned at the team advisor, “That sounds fine. Let’s do it. So when do we get started?” The other four nodded in agreement.

Ryosuke walked to his car, “Tonight. We’re going to Mount Akina right now.” Akagi’s White Comet roared to life.

The rest of the RedSuns team took that as the signal to get into their cars to follow their leader. One by one, an engine was added to the silence of the night until there were seven. Together they rolled out of the parking lot with the white FC leading; the caravan made their way down Akagi’s pass and toward their first target, Mount Akina.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Takumi sat against the guard rail as he tried to catch his breath after his near death experience in a particular jade S13. “YOU’RE SUCH A WIMP TAKUMI. SCREAMING FOR YOUR LIFE IN IKETANI’S CAR!” Itsuki continued to berate him, but he wasn’t listening.

The leader of the Akina Speed Stars looked at his S13 with pride after what he considered to be a fairly good run up the mountain with some friends in the backseat. At the sound of engines climbing up the mountain he glanced up, “Looks like we have some company boys.” Iketani stood by his friends and watched as the seven cars pulled up the street. He looked at the RedSuns stickers on the cars, “The Akagi RedSuns… What are they doing here?”

The young man instantly looked at his fellow teammates for an answer to the appearance of a famously fast team to their mountain pass; they just looked back at him in confusion.

The caravan of cars was silenced simultaneously as all seven drivers stepped out of their cars. Keisuke surveyed the small group of people at the peak of this new territory, he noticed the Akina Speed Stars sticker on the hood of Iketani’s car and glanced at his brother for the all clear sign. Ryosuke simply nodded, Keisuke turned to Iketani and the rest of the Speed Stars, “We’re the Akagi RedSuns. Maybe you’ve heard about us. I don’t want to start off sounding like a prick, but the only thing I want to know is who is the fastest team or fastest driver is on this mountain. Is there anyone who would want to claim that?”

Hushed murmuring began to spread throughout the small crowd of people who were gathered to watch the locals tackle the touge. Iketani took a step forward, “We’re the Akina Speed Stars, and if you’re looking for the fastest drivers on this pass, you’re staring right at them hotshot.”

“Hmph, that was easier than I thought it would be… How about we hold a practice between our teams? We could do it right here in Akina, could be fun.” Keisuke looked smug as he finished his statement.

Iketani stared at the seven new arrivals to the mountain with some malice as chatter broke out into the crowd. “HA! I knew this would be a sweet Friday night!” Itsuki proclaimed to no one in particular.

Noticing that the locals probably didn’t know what Keisuke was talking about, Fumihiro stepped in to elaborate. “What do you say guys, we’ve been going up against the same people over and over, it’s getting a little too routine for our tastes. We wanna mix it up, running against new teams will give us a new challenge. Maybe we can exchange some new ideas or even make some new friends. Sure, we’ll let a few teams’ secrets slip here and there but in the long run we’ll all be able to improve. First let’s do a run together. After that each team sends one driver in both an uphill and downhill. Doesn’t matter who wins. Let’s just build some solidarity between teams.”

Iketani looked at Kenji sourly, “If he’s going to put it so damned politely how are we supposed to say no?” Kenji nodded with a huff and crossed his arms. The Speed Stars took the challenge.

“Alright, why don’t you say we meet up next Saturday right here at ten o’clock?” Fumihiro smiled at the way this was going.

“Sure. You got it pal.” Iketani scoffed.

“I think we’re just going to take it easy with the runs tonight if it’s ok with you guys.” Keisuke stated before turning and walking to his car.

“I told you this was going to be awesome didn’t I?!?” Itsuki said clinging on Takumi’s shirt like an excited schoolgirl.

One by one, the seven foreign cars started their engines. Keisuke figured it would be nice to show off to the locals and performed a half doughnut to turn his car around to get to the downhill making sure to leave nice tire marks in the street. After glancing at the un-amused faces of the Speed Stars he sped down the street as the rest of the RedSuns followed suit.

“If those punks think they can intimidate us then they have another thing coming!” Kenji said as the rest of the Speed Stars team yelled in agreement. They quickly hopped in their cars and sped off in the downhill direction with Kenji in his white 180SX.

“What are you gonna do Iketani?” Itsuki looked worriedly at him as the rest of the cars at the peak came to life and started racing downhill after the RedSuns.
“I’ll keep my eye on the Takahashi Brothers. See why people call them the fastest in Akagi.”

“THE Takahashi Brothers? You mean the dudes who have been in all the racing magazines with all the pictures and all the crazy hot chicks?!” Itsuki gasped.

“Yeah, those are the ones. They’re also known as the Rotary Brothers…” He walked toward his car.

Itsuki ran after him, “What about us? Can we come with you?”
Iketani strapped himself into the cockpit of his S13 and looked at the two greenhorns standing outside his car, “Sorry Itsuki, when I make a serious run, I don’t like to do it with passengers in the car. You two wait here, I’ll pick you up in a little bit.” And with that he rolled out on the well beaten path.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Yamato Yanagasawa looked like a Buddhist zen statue behind the wheel of his FD. He broke away from the rest of his team to survey the road, waiting patiently in a turn for a car to battle with. A little ways up the mountain, Kenji and the rest of the Speed Stars were battling their way down the road in a futile attempt to catch up with the RedSuns.

The white 180SX leading the pack slid around the corners as if the pavement was made out of ice. One by one, the other members of the Speed Stars found themselves spinning out on Mount Akina’s unforgiving hairpins. By the fifth turn, Kenji was the only car left, “Are you guys serious? I’m really the only one left?!” As a white 180SX barreled down the mountain pass he pounced, the hunter green FD leaping to a sprint from a complete stop. Catching up with his prey, Yamato smirked. He downshifted and shot through the wide turns of the mountain as their battle on the pass started.

The roads echoed with the roars of the two cars. As the upcoming turn come into view, Kenji fought with tooth and nail to keep his 180SX on the road. Noticing the imminent failure of the opponent ahead of him, Yamato widened the distance between him and the white car speeding into the corner. Kenji wrenched at his wheel without any result as his vehicle slid wide through the turn. Yamato took his chance and attacked; the FD blasted through the same corner on the inside and passed the Speed Stars number two. Kenji watched in horror as the green FD drifted past him effortlessly. “CRAP! How are we supposed to beat these guys!?!”

Kenji continued to fight to catch up with his opponent but the gap between the two cars continued to widen until, the taillights of the FD disappeared around the turn. By the time he rounded the turn himself, the FD was nowhere to be seen. “ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! This is impossible!” Kenji slammed on the steering wheel in frustration. Yamato glanced at his rearview mirror and noticed the lack of headlights, sighing his face regained the stony cold expression he was known for.

At a vista point three fourths up the mountain, two Mazdas, one yellow and the other white were parked as the two drivers watched lights shine in between the tree lined streets of Mount Akina. “So Aniki, what do you think?”

“I think that if this is the best competition they can offer then we can beat them without a practice run. We’re going to leave our top drivers at home next week. I think I’m even going to pass on this race.”

“Well if you’re not going to race then I’m not going to bother either.” Keisuke glanced over at his older brother.

Ryosuke looked at the guardrail that stood in front of them. “No you need to do it. I want you to set a record for this course. Something that the locals can’t break even on their best days. If we don’t do that, then the name Akagi RedSuns will never become a legend. First thing we do is set new records for every single course in the prefecture then we hit Saitama, Kanagawa, Tokyo, and Chiba. After that we will have every record in the region. When we do, we’ll be legends. Then we can kick back and retire. That’s my plan for the RedSuns. I call it the ‘Fastest in Kanto Project.’” When he finished talking he walked to his idling FC and got in.
Keisuke looked at the city lights as he took a deep breath of mountain air before retreating back into his FD. He watched as his brother backed out of the vista point and sped down the street before shortly following him.

Meeting up with Takeru and Junichi at the start of the downhill course for more practice runs, Keisuke was enjoying a cigarette and thinking to himself before going on his last run of the night. This sucks! I know we’re good but these guys can’t even hold a candle against us. I’m pretty sure that Junichi can beat these clowns at this rate. There’s no challenge in becoming racing legends if all we’re up against are rookies like this. Looking at his watch Keisuke noticed it was about four o’clock in the morning, as expected the road was empty. The orange rays of the sun began to trickle over the mountains to the east. Junichi looked around before noticing the absence of the RedSuns’ number one. “Hey Keisuke, where’s your brother?”

Keisuke looked up from his thoughts, “Oh, he went home. Been gone a while. We’re the only ones still up here.”

“Looks like the sun is about to start coming up.”

“Maybe it’s about time for us to start heading back too.” Keisuke sighed as he got into his car.

“Ok! See you around tomorrow for karaoke! Right Takeru?” Junichi grinned at the blond getting into the FD while nudging at Takeru.

“You know I’m always down Junichi. I’ll let Fumihiro know, contact everyone else ok?” The teammate replied while walking back to his S13.

“You’ll have to pay for my beers and food then Junichi!” Keisuke yelled out of is car before speeding away.

“Yeah yeah of course, I’ll call everyone else when I get home. Ai! You’d think as a Takahashi, boss Keisuke would be more willing to pay for his own food.” Junichi laughed as he walked to his 180SX.

The two white cars sprang to life. The S13 driver paused next to the 180SX and asked, “Keisuke got a really big head start on us. I don’t think we can catch up with him and I don’t really feel like going on another run… Do you want to go straight back to Akagi?”

Junichi shrugged, “Not really like you Takeru… I really think we need the practice on this course. Especially on the last five hairpins.”

“Fine Junichi. I was trying to be considerate for you.” Takeru laughed at his own joke. The two members of the RedSuns started on the downhill.
Keisuke moved instinctively in his FD as it quickly cleared the hairpins and corners of the pass, up shifting, down shifting; Keisuke performed it without a second thought. At least this pass is a little exciting I guess, I’ll probably have a lot of fun beating the locals to a pulp. If I just stay on top of my game, I will be driving the RedSuns into the record books no problem. He let up on the throttle to allow his teammates to catch up with him. I should let Junichi and Takeru catch up with me. He was drawn out of his thoughts by the sound of another engine behind him. As the reflection of the car came into focus he realized it wasn’t Takeru’s S13. “That isn’t one of our guys. Is that a MR2 or a 180?” As the new car glued itself to the FD’s bumper, Keisuke scowled, “Nice driving chief, but after two corners you won’t even be a speck in my rearview!” He slammed on the gas and listened to the engine roar as he threw his car into the turn at a full drift, the mystery car followed. Glancing over at his opponent Keisuke came to a sudden realization, “AN 86!?! IT CAN’T BE!” He floored it again as his car backfired. “It shouldn’t be this hard for my FD to outrun a junky 86! This must be some sort of nightmare! I’m the number two driver of the RedSuns DAMN IT!”

Following his usual line, Keisuke let up on the gas before the last five hairpins of Mount Akina. The mystery 86 took this chance to overpass the raging yellow car and continued to barrel down the straightaway into the turn. “Doesn’t this guy know the road!? After this slow right there’s a sharp left. There’s a ravine on the other side, he has gotta hit the brakes!” He watched as the rear of the 86 started to slide out. “I knew it! That freaking idiot is going in way too fast! There’s no room to slow down! He’s going into that guard rail!” Keisuke slammed on the brakes, preparing to watch the proceedings.

Like magic, the panda 86 slid from right to left and cleared both hairpins in one fell swoop leaving Keisuke behind gasping for breath. “What the hell! An inertia drift?!?!”

Woah!!! That sounds cool... w00t2.gif One question, about the other members of the RedSuns, are they real? Or you just made it up?

I really like this Keisuke point of view, I visualized the whole first stage with the camera on the Takahashi side, wahahaha, I'm so f*cking love this.... facepalm.gif

The cars they're driving are straight from the first episode the series the character's names and personalities are pretty much OC.

So, let's say I wanted to do a Ryosuke one, to expand his college life up to his battle with Takumi on Akina.

I don't want to make it seem like I sort of took your idea, so I'm letting you know.

It probably won't be for a while, though.

Naw, that isn't really stealing my idea. You're not doing Ryosuke's point of view throughout the entire series like me, you're doing a prequel. Its actually a really cool concept! Go ahead with it I say! smile.gif

Sounds like a plan, then. Off to the brainstorming phase it goes.
