my impression of drifting is that wen u enter a turn, u press the clutch pedal (shift down?? ), let go of the gas, and control with steering...that is for FR drivetrain cars correct? that is the extent of my knowledge...please help me!!!! |

basically u downshift before u enter the corner, steer in(start the slide before u enter the corner), counter steer, and steer with the throttle, and get the car strait as u exit the corner(unless ur setting ur for the next corner). thats a basic basic basic basic basic basic of "how to" drift. p.s. did i mention thats a basic "how to" drift? |

so, by downshifting, the wheels spin faster and the car oversteers? eh....im still confused.... |

theres lots of ways to break traction on the rear tires......the one ur talking about is when u downshift u let the rpms drop then when u downshift the rear tires break traction then u use the throttle to keep the tires spinning. another way is to trail break into the corner, that shifts the weight of the car forward, then theres less wieght on the rear tires, then hit the throttle and that'll start the rear sliding. many ways to get the rear to kick out. |

I think best way is to use wieght transfer....that's wut I would use if I drove stick neways.... I actually try to do it wif my auto rite now....it kinda breaks but not really..heh. |

First off, you should really watch Initial D. They show everything from the heel-toe downshift technique to countersteer. Here's a good site that shows you many ways to do it, step by step, It helps even more so than the techniques TOLD IN THIS SAME WEBSITE!! http://www.driftsession.com/technique.htm Auto's really hard, cause the easiest techniques for drifting come with a clutch, plus you don't have any control of the gear you are in. Plus, I gotta accord, so if i get enuf ballz to try, I gotta use the e-brake |

If your askin about how to shift in drifting heres wut you do: If you are entering a corner really fast you may need to down shift first (power braking) to lose speed fast. After that is done you will need to execute the drift. While you are drifting you need to shift up one gear to reduce the power given off to your rear wheels. While you are sliding press down on the clutch and apply gas to keep the RPM at the same level. When you exit the corner let go of the clutch so you can accelerate out of it quicker then downshift. It all depends on the corner and how fast you are entering it. Sometimes you can "shiftlock" or "acceleoff". Executing a drift: most of the time when i do drifts i perform the feint drift. It's a way to gain more momentum when you steer. Quick tips: if you are using an FR car do not keep the clutch up and accelerate during a drift or your car will have a better chance in spinning out. Sometimes you may need to tap the accelerator. Also, stock suspension settings are really tough to drift in. You will need to get a new suspension kit and majorly adjust its settings. |

hum... weight transfer...yummy : first you have to understand that whole sh*t ...after you have to be almost god like like takumi to perform it so ...lol ok back on topic ...bunta_boi : stop thinking that by performing heel and toe you instantly drift around a corner ...there is a way to enter a corner and a way to exit it...(low/medium/ high speed corners) drifting is a whole serie of movements performed to balance a car trough a corner so that it(the car) lose a minimum of speed...if you go into the initial d world drift section you can read "drifting is a tchnique use to change vehicule's attitude for proper corner exit" note: that doesnt mean you have to go sideways danmit ! ...you are drifting when your 4 tires are skidding and when you use the maximum grip potential of your tires, downshifting doesnt really "slow down the car" its mostly use to take the proper gear to enter a corner at the right entry speed,(to save your ass from finishing into the wall ...or off a cliff) after you are supposed to steer hard and then counter-steer... |

Or, you could not bother learning the drift. It IS th slow way around any track. Instead you could spend your time learning how to properly apex the turn and get around it more quickly. When you've got that down pat you could even learn the "late apex" and use your car to its fullest. |

yes ill admit that the full counter-steer ass hanging out 90 degrees drift is slower than grip but learning drift will teach u better control of the car and can give u different lines to take when ur being blocked and there is a certain kind of drift that is just as fast and can be faster than grip, its the 4 wheel drift. |

drift is for little underpowered car ...for more powerful cars, grip is better...yes u can drift and evo ...but youll get better results whit grip ...but we cant compare drift and grip, its 2 different way to race, according to the type of car u have |
