Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Feedback and Support > NSFW Section?

Posted by: Tessou Dec 5 2015, 12:26 PM
Hello IDW,

The team has been working on a potential "anything goes" section of the forum. Essentially, it would be where you could post all of the NSFW stuff you want. Typical rules would naturally exist prohibiting illegal content, but it would be a relaxed environment where almost anything is allowed.

My question to you is: do you want this? Would it become an issue due to potential firewall flags at work/school? Do you think it's a bad development for the site? Is it not enough of a development?

Please, feel free to post here with your comments and feedback regarding this section.

Trap thread already nsfw

Posted by: Tessou Dec 5 2015, 12:49 PM
Trap thread does not contain nudity. That's what I'm talking about. Explicit content.

EDIT: Also, Trap Thread would almost certainly be moved to that section anyway.

Do you want to see my dick? Because this is how you get to see my dick.

Posted by: Lonely_Driver Dec 5 2015, 03:20 PM
I'm going to vote No.

I don't think this is stuff people come to IDW to see, not to mention I already spend too much time on reddit facepalm.gif

Edit: But if theres a dick thread as Spaz mentioned, I'll post in there.

ohmy.gif That would be pretty awesome to the max~

But like Kyon said, should be somewhere hidden deep within the commie~subforums to not scare off the kiddos. sweatingbullets.gif

Posted by: Tessou Dec 6 2015, 11:04 AM
When one panda treats a younger panda like a bowling ball, that makes me a very sad panda.

I don't know about hiding a subforum, though. Staff can create subforums that are only visible to them, but I don't really know if it's possible to make it visible to specific sets of regular members and not others, without becoming too complex.

A simpler solution would be an age gate or disclaimer page or agreement of some sort before entering, to wash the site's hands of liability in case somebody gets offended by content within. "You knew what you were potentially getting into. You signed the agreement."

Perhaps creating a UCP option for "visible 18+ section" would be viable, much like the ability to shut off signatures.

Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 Dec 6 2015, 05:45 PM
I'm going to be the prude and say that maybe this is a bad idea. Sure we can set up regulations and disclaimer pages. But if we do go through with this and have explicit content on the site, I'm afraid I can't come back. I have eyes watching my browsing history and I already feel weird looking through the forums at work. Definitely I can and do lurk the technical stuff whenever I'm bored but the community things and the Trap Club thread I try to shy away from.

Bottom line is that if we do get a subforum where people can talk about NSFW things, I'm out... I mean I'm already inactive as is, but I'll be like... more inactive. That's probably not a loss for most people though, but I'm just throwing that out there.

Nope.

This is Initial D world, not the ecchi skecchi one touchi world.
The threads currently in off-topic are par for the course on off-topic boards for a lot of forums, and they don't have (or need) a nsfw board either.

It's a bad idea, the fact that it made it this far into consideration? Come on guys...
The trap and girls threads should be moved to off-topic instead.

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 6 2015, 07:50 PM
As much as I'd love to discuss doujins and shit with you all, such discussion would probably push boundaries that should not be pushed. I won't die if I can't talk about this stuff on a forum. That's what chat programs are for, and that one blog I haven't updated in forever that I should get off my ass and update already.

Posted by: Tessou Dec 6 2015, 10:34 PM
This feedback is actually quite surprising. We've had a subforum set up for over a month ready to activate for public use, but if you guys are seriously against it, I respect your wishes. This is why I put up the thread in the first place.

Thanks everybody that chimed in. We're taking this feedback to heart when shaping the development of the forum.

If we were to make this section invisible to those that choose not to opt-in, would that be more palatable?

Posted by: Sensation! Dec 7 2015, 10:28 PM
To be honest, I'd rather see the /r/ chan get some actual use and have that be the nsfw board.

I suppose as long as there's nothing from Google or Baidu crawing into the nsfw board and flagging us or something, I'm slightly more okay with it.

Still, I'd rather not have a nsfw section at all, it's really not what this forum (or community for that matter) should be about.

I would be okay with a NSFW section, but as I haven't read all the posts on the thread, will there be any moderators for it, or the admins 'look into' the members that are underage and boot em out?

Or can we do a 'beta' test for it, have the admin pick members who they know are adults, as well as (elitism go) OG members or well known and give it a go?

Posted by: Tessou Dec 8 2015, 12:55 AM
Nothing set in stone, but the plan (if we implement the new section) is to run a disclaimer that absolves the site of liability, much like an age gate. You can say you're 21 or 18 or whatever, even though you're not, and gain access. It's a waste of time to set people on task to find out who is lying about their age.

If you want access, you opt-in. That's all there is to it. If not, you won't see it, nothing will bleed into the rest of the site, and your moral fabric will remain safe from such things as explicit fanfiction and pictures that already exist elsewhere on the internet.

And no, as it would be rendered invisible to any guests, which includes web crawlers, it would not affect site ranking and/or results.

Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 Dec 8 2015, 02:50 AM
Just because it is invisible to me does not mean it does not exist on the forums. I agree with Sensation! on the basis that it is still an ill advised idea.

But if that is what the community is about now then I won't stop you guys from doing what you want. I'll just spend my time on other places in the internet. (I'm not threatening to leave. That's stupid. But I am letting anyone who cares know that I won't be coming back if this happens.)

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 8 2015, 05:16 AM
Even if it's not intended to be a threat, the fact remains that implementing such a section in any way, shape or form associated with IDW means that you leave. So...yeah.

I'm actually kinda surprised. I mean, Eronight's been a thing for like...how long?

*aherm* ...sorry

What about inputting a Konami code or clicking on that little Pi character at the bottom right of the screen to gain access to the super secret information about members... like IP addresses, credit card numbers, and rule 55 pics! awesome.gif

Posted by: Spaz Dec 8 2015, 11:42 AM
My thought would be to implement it as an opt-in system only. Basically throw a check box or y/n radio buttons on the MCP. Basically gives full control to the admin/mod team. Obviously since we can't verify ages of users, an age gate would still need to be used beyond that, but that would keep the subforum literally undetectable to any bots, searches, nosy bosses, etc.

Outside of making the announcement in the news section, there would be no other way for anyone other than opting members to know it exists.

Not starting anything, but you haven't been on as much, if at all, but we do understand your opinion.

Posted by: Sensation! Dec 8 2015, 11:58 AM
Knowing her occupation, I can sort of understand why she needs or wants to leave or dissociate.

That being said, in terms of background, people do discern a difference between you being the admin of a site that actively hosts a NSFW board vs you being the admin of a site that happens to have NSFW content (ie, trap threads, loli threads, eronight).

One suggests an active approval, while the other suggests a range of things from irresponsibility, non-caring, or approval.

EDIT:

I'll put in another 2 cents in guys after thinking about it.
Honestly, a good general rule of life, law, and design;

"If you have to hide it, you probably shouldn't have it in the first place"

Now, to ship back my crate of illegal immigrants from China, I'm just not about that life anymore.

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 8 2015, 01:13 PM
Agreed there, which was my earlier point. The problem with implementing a NSFW section is defining the limit of such a section. It's simple to define and enforce limits for SFW, but once you open the floodgates... where do you draw the line?

[ Post made via Mobile Device ]

Posted by: Sensation! Dec 8 2015, 02:48 PM
I think the vocal minority (or..majority? I'm not counting) have spoken here in protest.

If this was to bring life and activity back to the forum, there's other ways to do it.
Anything but this guys.

Posted by: Tessou Dec 8 2015, 03:19 PM
Again, that is why this thread was made. Staff is floating ideas around and you are responding in turn. Right now it looks like there are too many queries as to why this is necessary, which I fully understand. It's not a method of boosting site activity, either, just something new.

That said, your wishes matter most.

I'm actually kinda surprised. I mean, Eronight's been a thing for like...how long?

Eronight is a radio show that happens to have NSFW things on it, I see it as a chance for the community to get together and laugh at a crazy weird fetish that N1 found this month. Whenever you would post screen caps of it, they would be artfully censored. Bottom line I'm ok with that since it doesn't happen often. Maybe it's a double standard, but the fact of the matter is--and Sensation! hit the nail on the head with it--that with my job as it is (which is teaching btw if anyone doesn't know by now) I can't be associated with NSFW material. Especially loli things because of the implications that it holds in terms of being child pornography or something like that. Does it sound stupid? Yes. But I didn't make up the rules.

I really like where I am right now in terms of pay, career choice, housing, car, etc etc. I'm not willing to change any of those tangible things if a NSFW section on the forums that I browse opens up. If the general membership and stuff decides that talking about NSFW things is kosher and should be a integral part of the forum. Then so be it. I've made a lot of sacrifices to get to where I am today and I'm willing to make more if it comes to it.

There are more developments on the horizon that will be fielded to the membership for feedback. Nothing as racy as a NSFW section that only the staff can use now. wink2.gif

Here is the section as it is now. It's in Off-Topic, but flagged as a staff section. It's a matter of flipping a switch, or specifically allowing individual member access, if it's ever decided that it would be okay to have on the site. Until then, it's still in existence and being used for cool shit and information that you literally cannot find anywhere else on IDW.
