It seems like that there was no awards event ran for the past year ( maybe more ) ?

That always gets a lot of community involvement, generates activity, and is hardly any effort to run.

Just my two cents...

A number of us asked, even pushed for it, but it didn't happen.

Perry is being lazy but I think Tessou has plans to bring the awards back, since he is working to revive forum activity. As you can see here, we are getting more daily posts. This is the most active I've seen the forums since my join date. But I guess that's not saying much since I haven't been around for an extended period of time. Hopefully things pick up soon and we'll be able to get some sort of awards set up. I want to see who wins what categories. smile.gif

As was usually the case even in the past.

You are not serious, are you?

90 posts for the past 24 hours, this thread is itself about over 4% of the day's activity.

What has it been in the past year, ~50 posts a day?

Hoping things pick up is not the best way to look at it IMHO. I've always looked at it as making things pick up. Awards can be run at any time, although near the end of the year and around the half year mark makes sense. The latter would be in about a month and a half...

The last example of the forum awards didn't raise forum activity that much, and voter turnout was quite pitiful. The amount of activity lately has me believing that barely anybody would vote, or even notice.

Well I guess I could be too optimistic in terms of increasing forum activity. But I find myself checking the boards more often than usual. As I said before, I'm relevantly new here so I've never seen the days were we would push the daily post count over 200 or most posts. I'd like to see that happen though...

It's hardly any work to run it ever since Perry set it up so the votes don't have to be manually counted.

It can't make things worse.

The trouble is, since it has not been ran for a while, it now needs to be made a bit special now, just to make up for the absence. smile.gif

I agree entirely. I don't think it will take much work to set it up, either. I know our new admin is quite busy at the moment, though, so I wouldn't press the issue too much. Just something to think about.

Ease of use is not my concern with awards. I want them to happen just as much as everybody else.

My concern is with forum activity, as I made note of in the "Forum Climate" thread. I don't believe we have a big enough field of unique members that would be interested in participating this year. Simply rolling out the 2012 awards right now wouldn't do anything to reverse the trend.

Would you rather win an award after only receiving five votes, or twenty? You're not going to get the latter with activity as low as it is these days.

As long as it is somewhere in the planning stages, it's cool.

The longer it is not ran, the less effect it will have.

I wouldn't vote myself because I wouldn't know what to award what to who. I guess it's a side effect of no activity.

I just hope that Initial D will revive...

I've been toying with the idea of adding a unique title to award winners this year. Much like the "Proud Contributor of the Music Section Revival Project" some members here are sporting, I think award winners should have something to denote their accomplishment.

As I said earlier, stay tuned. We'll have a concrete start date and categories lined up very soon.

That's a really great idea, but could get complicated if someone wins in more than one category. Still, if it can be made to work, I think it'd be awesome.

I was thinking more like "IDW Awards 2012 Winner". Being specific would be problematic.

I think itd be awesome if we could drum up some small award-images (hello art community, im looking at you) that could be displayed in the winners signature (if they chose to do so) to represent that award they received. Something about the size of the badges the staff here have under their titles. If they were kept small enough itd be quite easy to display multiples should someone win multiples. Thoughts?

That's a great idea as well. Shouldn't be hard to implement, either. All that would need to be done is to create the badges, align them to member groups that have the same privileges as advanced members, and put the winners into their respective groups.
