We do not currently have an ignore feature on IDW. You can block incoming PMs from any member of your choosing via the block/allow list in the user control panel.

I don't see the use of blocking. I would just ignore it. smile.gif

If you can't control yourself and read them, you probably can't fight that temptation to unblock their posts to read them anyway.

That is the most insightful thing I've read in a very long time. And I've been doing a lot if insightful reading lately. laugh.gif

I can honestly say, having used this functionality on a different forum, that that's not true. There are times when you simply want to enjoy a thread without having to read a post that you're sure will be drivel. It's more enjoyable that way. smile.gif

If you don't want to read somebody's post, you can just scroll past it. Nobody will ever force you to read something here... except for the guidelines and TOS when you join the forum (and even then, a lot of you probably skipped right past both wink2.gif ).

If that's a drivel post, mods would have done something about it.

Besides, other members can still reply to his posts, so you'll end up curious in the end anyway when you read their replies, especially when they concern you (if you cared enough to block, you'd care enough to wanna know what he posted).

You may be well disciplined enough not to care about blocked posts, but then again, if you're disciplined enough not to care, you wouldn't have cared to block them at all and would just ignore all the posts. Either way, I still think outright ignoring is the best approach. smile.gif

But that's just my opinion; more functions in a forum would be interesting, of course. Just I think the blocking one won't be useful to me. I won't simply say it's the same for all other members. Maybe (just maybe) some may find it useful somehow. On the other hand, I would love to see post rating function like in Sankaku Complex. But I digress. Lol.

Not necessarily, Saint. Drivel isn't necessarily against the rules on this forum nor on the other one. In neither case (the posts which led me to request this function here, and the case of actually using such a function on another forum) were the posts against the rules and thus actionable by the mod team. While you are correct that other members can reply, it wouldn't really leave me curious.

The other forum, for instance, is an RPG--other characters can still reply to things posted by the ignored person, but there's no hard-and-fast rule saying you have to pay attention to that person's character. So it ends up working out just fine. Here, if someone wants to reply to someone's all-lowercase antagonistic one-liner then by all means, but it'd still be neat to be able to filter that stuff out preemptively.

Your argument on discipline is well and good, but it's not a matter of that... it's just ease. That's really all this is. It's just making things easier. I agree with you that outright ignoring is the best approach--and that's why I put in this feature request in the first place. smile.gif

I have a few people on a few other forums that royally piss me off and i just block them, havent had a problem since honestly. block and forget haha.

And although you can argue the concept "if you cared enough to block them you care enough to unblock them" is COMPLETELY wrong not until the program in installed i guess is what it is? board function I mean. If you cared enough to block them it means you could give 3 flying rat's asses what they have to say to you or post in general.

I agree 100% with N1

Most of that would only apply if one would come to IDW for serious discussion.

Most don't, so in my eyes it would detract from the fun to be had. cool.gif

It was a cheesy reference, but I guess it didn't carry well.

I was noting your tendency to come in for a day, make a few comments (at best), and disappear just as quickly.

I don't think it's worth the effort, quite honestly, but the community is what counts, and it would only be fair to respect everybody's opinion.

I'll put a poll up and we'll see what happens. Perhaps irony will hit and we'll see a lot of folks ignore it. awesome.gif

EDIT: Poll is up. Let your voices be heard.

Huh, the poll won't allow any replies. That's too bad. Here's an image showing the function in use on another forum:
