It's good that they made an initial recap in the beginning for those who forgot Legend 1. When Nakazato appeared, or as how I call him - Nakazarcher (Because his seiyuu is also the same VA for Fate/Stay Night's EMIYA/Archer), I fanboyed, especially at his R32 and his usual hyped demeanor. It came out with a similar pace as the first battle between Takumi and Keisuke (the ambush, not the formal battle). Shingo eavesdropping at the team leaders' conversation was quite a twist and honestly, I love it.
NOW! The pace is slowly getting there; somewhat though there were some changes that had to be taken into account... such as - the lack of Mogi presence around Takumi... which was answered with her GOING ALL DORA THE EXPLORER FINDING THE GAS STATION THAT TAKUMI WAS WORKING AT WITHOUT EVEN THINKING OF ASKING HIM WHERE IT IS AT ALL OR GETTING PHONE NUMBERS OF GUNMA-KEN GAS STATIONS.
Nakazato's initial conversation with Itsuki was slight comic relief, I'll admit and it was a good approach for slight humor of making Nakazarcher quite an airhead about it and relying on Itsuki for answers. I fanboyed again when he declared his challenge, of course. When Takumi is being forced to take up the R32's challenge; he flat out denies it, and it is quite canon. I laughed though when Yuichi-taicho talked to him about it and he went Reverse psychology up his sorry ass. Yuichi's face was even more priceless. Thanks to subtitles, the theory of understeer aiding FRs was easier grasped and explained. Bunta sneezing when he is being talked about from afar was a good moment too to break the ice.
The race came and it was an utter surprise of me to see the full Night Kids' pack, excluding Shingo and Nakazarcher: A gold Altezza, a white NA8C, a blue S15 with a GT wing; really? Okuyama - WTF are you doing there?! The character design of the other night kids members were quite arrogant looking, giving vibes that Red Suns are networking-funded, pyramid scheming money hagglers and the Night Kids look like all of them, except Nakazarcher, are rich funded kids with bad attitudes. But all of it changed when they showed how organized they are in setting up the race.
I really thought they are gonna switch it up into a downhill rain battle with the GT-R when lightning strikes. Cliche much to depict Takumi's grief?
AND THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET RIDICULOUS:
No Iketani/Kenji to grieve with Takumi until Bunta returns, Bunta comes home earlier than usual and The other 2 are grieving for Itsuki's sake.
The Red Suns come in by themselves - just The brothers of course with their fangirls among the crowd.

The race shows him feathering the throttle at the start rather than accel than braked to match the pace...
and everyone totally silent by the fact that Ryosuke jumped in and THE CROWD REALIZED IT WHEN IT WAS ALREADY HALFWAY THROUGH THE RACE. Not sure if Ninja skillz or it is gonna be a Ryosuke Takahashi is dead theory and no one could ever see the FC come out other than Takumi.
The race was half decent with the proper explanations - really, Keisuke praising the R32? I thought he hated it with a passion to an extent of refusing to talk about it?! The weakness was well explained and I like how every gasping moment, Nakazarcher just becomes more excited; compared to his anime counterpart where he gets more pressured. His defeat was depicted better than the anime or the battle stage. I thought before he hit the guardrail because he went full boost and added understeer.
The depicition here made more and better sense: he shows the sudden drop of understeer with... tire... locking? due to brake fade? Well, either way for the common man / non car junkie, it gives a better depiction of how Nakazarcher lost.
FROM HERE ON OUT... IT'S A FLAT OUR RAGE FEST:
A few unmentioned days later, Shingo appears with a posse of his own, Takumi follows suit but is far behind. He eventually catches up seeing Shingo gangbanging Iketani's S13. No one crashed, no one got hospitalized... yet.
Then the race all of a sudden? A demand for an apology? Takumi instantly accepting terms and the challenge? The race there and now?
I'M SORRY BUT THIS MEME SUMMARIZES THE WHOLE NON RACING EVENTS THAT TRANSPIRED:
Look on the bright side, we didn't get to see Itsuki f*** himself up with a girl... Is it me or is Itsuki being depicted gay here?
Also, no Mogi content until later.
The race was better done here, of course and what got me to like this race was:
- Takumi's rage face
- Shingo's rape face
- dat V-tec engine render
Other than these... my liking to it was just 10 seconds flat total.
And how disappointing that the EG6's front was still whole EVEN AFTER THE FRONT WAS DENTED! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? WHERE'S THE HEADLIGHT LENS CRASHING? AND HOW DID SHINGO BECOME LIKABLE WHEN HE STEPPED OUT AND CRIED?
Oh, did I forget how SHINGO PUSSIED OUT RATHER THAN GIVE A MORE SUITABLE EXPLANATION AS TO WHY HE HESITATED LIKE Oh I don't know? "SHIT! HE'S GONNA PAY ME BACK DOUBLE! SHIT! I'M LOSING TRACTION! SHIT I PRESSED WRONG ON THE GAS! SHIT! SHIT! HE'S PASSING ME! SHIT! TIME TO PUT MY RAPE FACE ON!"
It all came flying so fast my mind cannot process the bullcrap I'm seeing now.
A few days pass and the trio are talking about what if Takahashi Ryosuke challenges Takumi and how Takumi bluntly will accept it.
Remember earlier how I said Mogi was the worst Dora the Explorer? Well, she admits it right there at the gas station.
AND AT THIS EXACT MOMENT, A DELIVERY BOY SHOWS UP WITH ROSES FOR "PANDA-TRUENO-SAN"
I know it is canon in the manga but; can someone fill me in... SHOULDN'T KENJI BE THERE AND NOT MOGI?!
Meanwhile, Keisuke is wearing his 4th stage episode 19 getup out of the blue and I was like... Did you just meet Kyoko before seeing your bro refix his FC?!
And I am reading Mogi's thoughts like:
"TAKUMI AND I ARE NOT AN OFFICIAL SHIP YET AND THERE'S THIS GUY WHO'S AFTER MY MAN?!"
"TAKUMI! ARE YOU GAY OR WHAT?"
"TAKUMI YOU SAID YOU ARE GONNA RIDE ME LIKE YOU RIDE YOUR "TRUENO", WHAT GIVES?"
"TAKUMI! ARE YOU GAY OR IS THE GUY SENDING THESE FLOWERS GAY?"
Then the film ends with the challenge, the date.
Totally sounds like a 100% date to me.
