Someone once said this about Initial D, "Initial D wouldn't be the same without the AE86." He was definitely right. We started watching Initial D mostly because of the "Underdog Effect." It's more exciting to root for the underdog, it's even better when we know Takumi has crazy special techniques that'll always surprise us and come out victorious.

There had been numerous speculations on the forums about what Takumi should drive next. It is as if there is this expectation that Takumi should ditch the 86 just because it's outdated. I hold a very different view. I think it'll be completely different if Takumi start driving a different car. The whole series would lose its feel. Call me conservative, but the 86 is one of the main elements that made Initial D successful. Without it, the show just feels different.

Wow, is there a wallpaper size of that photo? I couldn't help but notice the aliasing around the edges so I figure it's been resized. I'd love to have a higher res!

Here, here! This would make a great desktop background! But why aren't there any of Keisuke's FD or Ryosuke's FC? Is this some sort of pattern where only Takumi's 86 s the one who hogs all the attention, or are there little to no replicas of their cars?

I saw a replicar of Ryousuke's FC at D1GP in 2007. I'd think his would be easier to pull off between the two RX-7s. I've seen pictures of Keisuke replicars though, including his RE-Amemiya race car.
