Slowed down since I missed how the line transition worked on that test. Could probably go a bit faster but I prefer accuracy to speed. I'm already over 90 WPM, may as well focus on being perfect. Youre still at 89%, 89% is not bottom of the barrel Edit, had to give it another try. Fwiw, wpm obviously isnt how many words you actually got, considering i only got 110 words out, with 3 words wrong (113 =/= 118). And boo, those 3 were because i got a word ahead and entered a few before i caught up to what was happening This post has been edited by sideways on Apr 7 2014, 03:53 AM |

They said they calculate it based on 5 letters = a word.... You could have tons of 2 letter words and it means shit.. also they really take you out with wrong words... Most of my wrong words have to do with me entering an extra character at the end... When they say you have "8 wrong" you actually didn't have all 8 letters wrong, you might have had only 1. There is also the advanced typing test, since this onei s basic.

It's called accuracy. One letter wrong in 8 'words' is still a fail. It's not like they're saying '8 wrong' when you only missed a single letter through the whole test, they're saying it because you're not being accurate with your typing. That being said, I agree that this test isn't nearly as precise as others. There was one a while back that actually had you transcribe a paragraph of a story and counted your WPM based on, you know, the actual text. That one was pretty good, but it was forever ago so I don't remember where it was.

Hilariously enough as a kid I was forced to take typing courses in the computer lab. Since I gamed at home and stuff I didn't get why I should bother with the 'home keys' when all I needed was WASD CTRL/ALT/SPACE? I could just peck the rest, no big deal. After a decade or so... the more I typed...the more my hands just started doing that sort of stuff automatically. Keeping my fingers in the middle of the keyboard really was faster and that was that. I don't really 'home keys' it as much as my hands hover over the middle of the keyboard and I strike where they've memorized the keys to be. It's too bad there's not yet a decent virtual keyboard, because I can totally type with my eyes closed and no actual keyboard under my fingers. Your mileage may vary. I was lucky enough to grow up with computers.

Yeah, I mean I grew up with computers as well, but I could easily hit 80 wpm by the age of thirteen, and I guess I never really needed anything faster for what I was doing. I still don't have a reason to try and hit 100+ wpm, but I want to just so I can wag my dick at people who are slower than me.
