Well, I have a 1990 RX7 White Convertible, it's my first car and I got for 1000 bucks after bringing a nearby Rotary Specalist with me ((For a fee.)) to check it out to tell the engine was solid. it was.

But I was told the exhaust is shot from the Cataytic Converter down to BOTH Mufflers.

I've gotten three quotes, two were reasonable at 700, one was something insane like 1500.

I have it on NJ Craigslist looking for a Trade for Bubble Civics and most other Honda's, as I love them for some reason.

But my friends keep calling me an 'idiot' for wanting to do it?

ALSO!

Recent problem I almost forgot, after jumping the battery((and accidentally putting the things on backward, negative to positive, positive to negative....Don't ask.)) the light just behind the stock radio won't turn the hell off.

The radio is off, but the damn light kills the battery. Someone told me it could be a blown fuse, either the Room, Antenna, or audio.

It DID not do this before the jump, as it died originally from terrible cold.

So, the question is.....Should I keep it? Or just sell it/trade it for a Honda Civic/Integra/ or some other Honda?

Or does the possible chance of a botched wiring and the chance once I get the car into a shop the price gonna sky rocket it simply not worth it.

It's actually a good idea to keep it, and save up some funding over time to fully fix it.

Not worth if you're going to buy a Civic, as some of them are abused more than the Convie.... wink2.gif

Of course, it's just a suggestion, but eh.

Oh, usually, you can check out rx7club.com .

if you have a decent job and another means of transportation, (mom, dad, friends) and you don't HAVE to have your own car it's worth it to invest money and build/learn about the car.

If you do not; then just buy something reliable to get you by, do NOT mod it, and save your money until you can afford a car that won't need money put into it.

Steady job, yes.

Means of transportation-Bike.

New Jersey current Weather: 27 degrees F.

Distance from work, 4 or so miles.

Mind you, the car is drivable, its just illegal to do so.

Keep the RX-7.

Go single exhaust. Custom exhaust isn't really that expensive.

Shore, five minutes from Point Pleasant.

Single Exhaust?

How much you think, roughly, is that gonna run me?

Depends on the quality of the exhaust LOL.

You can get a POS exhaust for like 200 bucks, but for something better around 400-500? (at least around here). You can usually find a used exhaust for that much on Rx7club or RotaryCarClub for sale. Either a dual tip Racing beat, or something cheap and nice.

I would focus on getting the car LEGAL to drive first. And if that is rust i see near the headlights i would get rid of that before you get an "Exhaust".

Then focus on maintenance of the car rather than making your car a noisebox. Having owned an FC before, i did a TON of maintenance work before even thinking of touching the exhaust on it. Fluids, water pump, TPS, Fuel pulsation damper, new clutch (it failed and left me stranded), new tranny mounts, blah blah blah.

You have other priorities if you just got this car, and are trying to "tune it".

Ahahaha.

The Exhaust is THE maintenance. Its SHOT it doesn't get LEGAL without IT!

Won't pass emissions without a catalytic converter, which is one of the exhaust pieces I need replaced.

Also, that 'rust' is leaves. Not a piece of rust on the car.

I don't care if my car is 'loud and tuned', I live in a little suburb where a 'tuned awesome vehicle' is a stock Cobalt SS, I bought the car cause it was cool looking.

I wanted a bubble civic cause if they're clean, I love them.

I don't like mods on cars, I think its stupid.

Nice rims. Sell the rims, get exhaust fixed. tongue.gif

All joking aside, no exhaust system is "worth it". Not unless they are SS. wink2.gif

If you plan on keeping the car, then get the best system you can afford ( or buy? ). Sometimes it is no more expensive to get a brand name system together, all SS, than to get a manufacturer's replacement. Do not go to a dealer to get it done, but at the same time, do not go to a large exhaust chain either. Does anyone make bolt on SS exhaust systems for your car?

I would just get something like that if it exist. I was planning to get a Trubendz SS catback for my car if my exhaust system ever needed replacing... But then I bought a parts that incidentally had a custom SS dual setup. laugh.gif

I checked, most bolt on systems are way up there.

Header back from Meineke?

Hrm, ill give that a shot, mine would be considerably cheaper since I don't need that far back.

As for checking it out, if I keep it sure! ^^

Ill see what price Meineke gives me, see what happens.

Should I mention I'm not technically savy in the slightest, have no tools, not even a screw driver, and am pretty much afraid to do something without some kind of guidance?

Then sell that car immediately to someone who knows how to fix cars.

A. Thank you for the help, and teaching me a few things about it one day would awesome!

B. To anyone who tells me to sell it because I know nothing, bite me, its my car ill do what I want with it. Someone has to learn some where, and at one point or another you knew nothing either.

Edit:

Update, traded for a Honda Accord with a F22B Swap, basic car, few frills.

Engine started smoking, and it was stalling randomly.

Edit:

So, the seals were broken and it was stalling due to cat build up. Traded it to a guy who just needed the body for another car he was building.

She'll live on, and ill get another one when i'm a bit older.

So let me get this straight... a guy know knows 7s told you to buy it? If the apex seals are shot, it won't be, you know, obvious or anything to anyone who's seen a lot of those cars before (that's sarcasm, for the record). My guess was going to be that the engine was almost carbon locked, but either way, it's gonna need a rebuild.

Now, what year accord is it that it had to have an F-series swapped in? Anything from 1990 to 1997 should have come with one, and the A/B(1/2) letter designations were small changes, nothing that would require a full swap...

The guy apparently is gonna use the body for an RX7 build he's working on with a 20b.

I don't really care.

The Accord is a 90, it has an F22B because the car had that one Prelude Engine, the name slips my mind, so its an F22B with that Prelude Engine heads. New gaskets, etc etc.

Mind you, its not some 'performance machine', and the body has 222,223 miles on it exactly....But strangely, has only small spots of rust.

Its dark blue, it's a 5speed and pretty basic.

My insurance dropped 68 bucks a WEEK, and my mom doesn't have a heart attack every time I get in the seat.

Its for the best, and she'll live on without me.

Also, the reason it happened sixteen hours after, is because the problems I thought were the exhaust. Puttering, strange noises, etc, were actually the Engine. Or so the guy told me, no matter, i'm not losing a damn thing. I only paid a grand for the thing.

Edit:

Also, yeah, that 'RX7' specialist, or so he liked to claim on his shop bull shitted me and conned me out of 15 bucks I guess. Or maybe he's just an idiot.

Let's hope NOT. I'd hate to see another 7 go that way in the hands of another american muscle fag who thinks the body looks cool, but doesn't want to bother with a truly unique engine.

I know two of those guys personally, they're both dicks, and I swear to god, every car that has a problem, it's "Shoulda put a V8 in it." Elitest f**ks.
