I never fell sick, sorry.

Hell, the only reason I really joined was because I didn't have enough forums to last me through the work day over the summer, and they've got an automotive section and an off topic, which is enough for me.

the thing is 10000$ in a 10k revving 4age will probably buy you parts only...there is so much work that it actually needs, it is usually out of the realm of hobbyists, and requires people who have experience with building motors to that level...the actual cost of owning a 220 ps plus n/a 4age is higher than most people are going to pay for just a motor in a corolla/mk1 mr2...lets just say it can buy you a nice ap2 (04+ s2000) with suspension and brake work maybe with a nice spoon intake and exhaust)

hasselgren and loynings are 2 shops that participated in formula atlantic and have the expertise of building the 10k+ 4age's, and if you buy the motors from them it will cost much more than 10k.

but another thing to remember is that...the corolla/mr2 are fairly light cars...you'll have a ball on the street as a dd with 120-130whp, and to achieve that in NA form won't cost that much.

anyone heard of the turbo'ed formula atlantic motor that still revs to 10k i think in taka aono's falken ae86?

Unless of course the big turbo engine is also diesel... then the impact is minimal biggrin.gif

It's easier and cheaper to make a 16v 4ag that has 220+ hp there are more choices for under bucket shims. It would hit 10g w/o breaking a sweat. Bigger or rather the proper sized shims are hard to find and are quite pricey. I personally think Tadao Sakurai is probably the one who build a proper 20v.

And Even So...didnt he have backing from the number 1 car manufacturer in the world? (Toyota) blink.gif So i dont think money was even a thought in mind for him, he was probably given more than $100,000 to make that car...

I could see it being 204 whp, but not bhp. And even then maybe 13k as a dead max rpm, with power being more at 11-12. 10-12k rpm 4ages are not uncommon at all in full race trim, but they make 210-250hp.

I think the Formula Atlantic Engines hit about 13K, but thats a 20,000 dollar 4A-GE were looking at.
