IMO its safe to say that they're pure evil and are actually dumb phones as you dont need to think at all BC there's google to save you 24/7. you can just continue in lala land and rely 200% in silicone, gold and other metals crammed into a phone like shape. there's also an app for anything that more than 2 people might ever use once in 3 blue moons. its a better choice to use the screen of the phone as a coaster for beer bottles than what its made to be. i fully support any sort of legislation one might put forward to curb down on distracted walking. make'em pay a $300 fine for their habits, heck it might even set them back from getting the newer iphone/samsung and teach em a lesson in life. dont get me wrong but distracted driving is just as evil and both of them are hard to stop. That reminds me I gotta make a T-Virus shirt like the guy from Blur ~
What if they drive a crappy year 2000 Jeep with a radio that barely works & no CD player & can't get a job for reasons so they rely on using their phone-buds, like Formula 1 driver radios, to listen to podcasts or music?

~ h'what? The reasons only apply to said theoretical person being rejected at every job interview he goes to, therefore being unable to afford a new vehicle with modern commodities like a radio or a CD player/iPod... thus rendering his drives sad & dull, and forcing him to use his cellphone's earbuds as a substitute for listening to podcasts or music. ☆ By using a logic that smartphones are a virus to modern society, we'll end up in the conclusion that every human being should drive bicycles instead. Or take the example to an even further extreme and say that all technology down to electricity, the stone-wheel, and fire is evil. I understand your hatred for smartphones, cause I hate modern Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) with the same passion. But I'm not gonna espouse a flawed logic saying that Social Media is objectively BAD, because it has GOOD uses depending on the user... I just try no to fock with Social Media, but it serves a very useful purpose to the majority of humanity... like smartphones v This post has been edited by xiao on May 13 2017, 12:53 PM

IMO social media us useless btu great at click bait and posting useless info on their thoughts every 2 damn seconds. like that is impetative to know at all times.... though it does provide great entertainment when it comes to a certain baby in a big white seat. i'll be honest here, i did have a FB account twice for no more than 1 month each acct. i deleted both of them BC i found i just tended to waste time with useless trivia questions and old friends from previous schools not replying (mostly BC it was so long since i was last saw them). i realized its a great way to squander time away that could be better wasted on TV or actual games or even books. if you want my approximation of social media, then i'd suggest you watch a few South Park eps ie "you have 0 friends" and most of season 20. its that ridiculous to me. |

I agree with xiao. If people weren't using cell phones, there'd be some other great evil plaguing human civilization. I think to direct your hatred at cell phones is to be distracted by symptoms. Just like guns, it's not the actual device that's dangerous; it's the way people use them. As long as people lack the common sense or wisdom to wield the instruments around them, people will continue to get hurt. However, these instruments are the product of centuries of progress, and are capable of great good if used well. So, they shouldn't be the object of your ire. Instead, direct your anger at human stupidity, which is the real culprit.

lol i should probably do that, its getting close to that ime of night where i need to consider going to sleep anyway. @umustwait101: i do agree stupidity is stupidity but it still doesnt change the fact they're using the devices now. im sure some time in the near future we'll get HUD holographic screens and you'll have people walking around with a active screen projected directly in fro of their face 24/7. moon bunny Group: XIAO Posts: 5,735 Member No.: 13,323 Joined: Oct 4th 2005 Location: Update Profile | Quick question to Nomake or others here better versed than I in Nihongo. Preface, I was speaking with a Suntory rep in NYC today, his English was quite poor so I tried my hand at a bit of impromptu Japanese. He complimented everything I said & wondered how some dude from ghost-town TX even knew Japanese... however my question is regarding verb forms/conjugation: I said to him ending the call: まだちょっと日本語分かるけど、ただガクト曲を学びましたから (Mada chotto Nihongo wakaru kedo, tada Gackt kyoku wo manabimashita kara / Well I understand a bit of Japanese, but it's cause I learned it from Gackt songs) ~ He said to me: "You're using wakaru incorrectly, it's wakarimasu" I didn't bother asking him, but it stayed in my head... mainly what's the difference between using the る (ru) form of a verb than the ます (masu) conjugation of it? I've always thought that the (ru) form is just informal whereas the (masu) form of a verb is just being polite & proper. But is there a grammatical difference, so as using the (ru) form would change the meaning of a sentence than it would in (masu) form? Just curious, Google & YouTube yield nothing specific of worth. As far as I know, they're both perfectly viable forms. Maybe he thought you were being too informal? I dunno. N1 will probably be the guy to nail this one. |

ShiMACHaze Group: Advanced Members Posts: 19,542 Member No.: 5,394 Joined: Feb 5th 2005 Location: Drydock | Tessou nailed it. Technically speaking using the dictionary form mid-sentence is perfectly acceptable because conjugations tend to come at the end of a sentence. However, if you want to be totally formal then you use 'masu' where otherwise you would use dictionary form. My only real complaint with what you said to him isn't that part, but rather the 'mada chotto nihongo wakaru kedo' bit as a whole. I know what you were trying to say, and so did he, but the correct version of what you intended would be まだちょっとの日本語しかわかりませんが Which in case you didn't guess already is, "I don't understand but a bit of Japanese, but" which is a little more humble and less clunky-sounding. I mean, it sounds odd read literally in English, but it sounds better in Japanese. Anyway, for a full explanation of how to use 'kedo' and why he told you to use 'masu', here's something I found on Google for you: http://maggiesensei.com/2016/05/07/how-to-...3%81%A9-dakedo/ |
