Basically - as expected OE is the best quality, and fram blows balls

Wix and Napa Gold are the same exact filter, maybe cut one of those up for a comparison vs the others?

Also of note, the PPL Purolator is actually a master pack filter, right? Those filters are designed to cover as many part numbers as absolutely possible to allow for less shelf space to cover a higher percentage of vehicles. A shift from OE should be expected there.

I like the idea of the tailpipe cutter too, I've done that in the past and it works very well.

K&N and mobil 1 are the same filter, their made my champion labs, anything made by champion labs is the shit.

royal purple is made by champion labs and their amazing filters.

I had a EX-friend who had a RB28 fully built lots of money in it right? the dumbass bitch runs a fram filter. one day going down the 1/4 mile the filter implodes sending all the crap back into the oil pan this clogged the strainer and he spins a rod bearing. motor was a total loss.

I'd never trust fram I'd rather use my underwear as a filter then that garbage ass filter.

Yeah, I used to run K&N oil filters on the Evo, but the size just ended up being a turn-off (1-08, smallest filter they make). I've been running Wix now, no problems. For me, the K&N filter was just an excuse to over-tighten it.

Subaru gets their OE filters from Honeywell, who makes FRAM.

Honda probably goes to fram because it's the same filter.

Is there any difference between using an OEM one and one of these aftermarket ones?

All this while i've just been buying it from the local VW stockist whenever it comes to oil changes

I wouldn't trust that tiny can on my lawnmower. If there's clearance, I'd run an L20195 all day long.

^ with this. i usually try to run a bigger then stock oil and fuel filter as it takes longer to clog and change intervals are longer.

well i change my oil every 2 months because of the heavy dudy abuse i put my car through but still im usually on top of it.

I always ran the grey fram filters, HD I think they are called but now I get cost at Subaru so I just run OEM filters.

I hear they arent the greatest but my car is still stock.

scary to think something so small and simple can destroy your motor.

There are tons of small and simple parts that can destroy a motor if improperly constructed or installed. Why is that a surprise? There's a reason why not every shadetree mechanic is a professional engine builder.
