300+hp, a full set of torque vectoring diffs, and great looks? Sign me up. I'm seriously excited for this car.

If it's going to be competitive, look for pricing to compete with the incoming Honda Civic Type R and Golf R. Though it's Ford, so it'll probably be on the cheaper side of things.

Posted by: Falbere Feb 3 2015, 10:56 AM
The front looks super-ultra-mega aggresive! These looks definitely don't appeal to me though.
But 300bhp + tv differentials in a small and compact car like this is still extremely appealing.

Apparently, and this is third hand info, dealers were told book pricing of $27k for base and $35k for premium. Obviously there would be mark-ups on top, but even as a rough estimate, those are some tempting prices.

hmmm hope it's more reliable than the Focus ST.

Seems awfully high for a hot hatch, though. I haven't been looking at the new car market for a while, so if that's the current norm feel free to call me a big silly goose.

For 27k I could get one heck of a nice last model year car.

A Golf R/STi killer. cool.gif Certainly welcome to another AWD rallybred car with the Evo line coming to an end.

Posted by: Rudy Feb 3 2015, 01:59 PM
I don't think there was ever an "old" Focus RS, at least I don't recall seeing one on the streets... Pretty sweet hot hatch.

Yep, all of which were front-wheel drive. The Mk 2 still being my favorite.

Posted by: Spaz Feb 4 2015, 09:29 AM
The past two generations of Focus have had an RS model, and as stated, both were FWD. I initially typed FTW there... Which is also the case.

Both Subaru and VW should be sweating right now.

Just in time to take the Evo's place. nice one, Ford. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Kiroshino Feb 27 2015, 10:03 PM
Just when I thought most new cars (within reasonable financial reach) were bland and boring, I came across the RS... in the comments section of some random Jalopnik article advertised on Yahoo. Still an estimated price point higher than I'd be comfortable spending, but it's reasonable imo and I might go for it once my warranty expires.

I'm genuinely excited to see if it lives up to my expectations. I really enjoyed driving the '13 Fiesta Titanium, so I imagine the Focus RS to be an entirely different beast for the better.

SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE HERE, make sure you call your insurance BEFORE signing any documents.

Your rates could double, triple or even quadruple. Part of the reason I'm up shit creek financially is because of that $10,000 personal loan I took out just to pay for insurance.

Posted by: Kiroshino Feb 28 2015, 09:47 PM
Yeah, I'm well aware of NJ's high insurance rates. It was one of the reasons why I turned down a WRX when I was looking for a new daily. Going from a Civic to an Accord saved me quite a bit on that front.

This is all just talk. In reality, I'm currently saving up for a down payment on a house: wouldn't have purchased the Accord if my Civic didn't die on me. After I get a place for myself, I'm doubtful I'd be able to afford anything. sad.gif

While this is true, the drawback is that if it's a new car, the rates may not exist yet since the car would be brand new, so the carrier may just manually set the rates based on what they know about the car. So even if that number ends up being something you'd be okay with, once they rate the car within the next few months, it could completely change. Also speaking from experience, but on the quoting side.

That really sucks.

NJ was ranked the ninth highest average car insurance rate last year. Comparing NJ's average rates to surrounding states:

http://www.insure.com/car-insurance/car-insurance-rates.html

DE: Ranked 17. 17% lower.
MD: Ranked 11. 5% lower.
NY: Ranked 42. 39% lower.
PA: Ranked 25. 25% lower.

Cars.com estimated the national average insurance cost for:

2014 Ford Focus: $1118
2014 Ford Focus ST: $1205
2014 Honda Accord: $1615
2014 Honda Civic: $1375
2014 Subaru Impreza: $1157
2014 Subaru WRX: $1502

The national average, according to Insure.com, is $1503 in 2014. NJ carries about a 27% premium over the national average. So, assuming you were a 40-year-old male driver living in NJ with no history and the insurance cost of a 2016 Ford Focus RS followed that of a Subaru WRX, you can expect to be paying about $1903/year in insurance. Adjusting for Cars.com's national average ($1231), we're looking at $2324.

Looking at CarsDirect.com:

http://www.carsdirect.com/car-insurance/the-average-car-insurance-rates-by-age

The average insurance rate for 25-29 year-olds with Esurance is $2400/year. For 40-49 year-olds, it's $2164. So, we can expect that insurance will cost at least 11% more for those around my age.

That said, my insurance costs are estimated to be around $2579/year for the 2016 Ford Focus RS based on Insure.com numbers. In reality, I fully expect it to be closer to $3000/year.

Posted by: Rudy Mar 1 2015, 11:07 AM
I say save the headache and just buy the ST. It's 90% of the RS, with half the maintenance and significantly lower insurance costs.

I've never ran across an ST owner, Focus or Fiesta, who didn't absolutely love their car.

Posted by: Kiroshino Mar 1 2015, 12:59 PM
Just talk. Nothing more. smile.gif

I anticipate the cost to insure the RS to be around the cost to insure a WRX.

I don't see myself owning one in the near future. As much as I like the idea of having a new car, I hate the idea of high insurance rates, depreciation, scratches and dents, dirt, etc., stuff that I don't care as much about when I get a used car.

Posted by: Rudy Mar 1 2015, 01:11 PM

I'm partial to the first, fourth, and seventh generations of Celica. The All-trac versions still demand a pretty high premium.

Except for the 2nd gen American Focus, I've had no problems with the styling to the Focus.

As for the Celica, I've always been a fan of its designs, especially the 4th and 5th generation.

Though one them actually has a spot in my "MUST OWN" list of cars, maybe a good 3rd or 2nd place and that's the 6th gen Celica GT-FOUR

If you've played Sega Rally, you know why.
From an aesthetic styling standpoint, the car is atrocious, gaudy, and excessive: it had a wing as tall as the 90's New York skyline with more vents than an air conditioned office. However, from the perspective of a kid in the 90's, that's what made the car so cool.

If you grew up in the 90's and had a poster of a Ferrari or a Lamborghini on your wall, you were a plebian compared to the patrician tastes of people who had rally celicas on their wall.

Since when did we type as a substitution for speaking out loud? Are you transcribing something you're actually saying? There is no need to include a pause or hesitation in text, as time is not a factor here. There is no suspense to be gained.

:bump:

Power output has been revealed at 345hp and the US price was released by mistake but apparently starts at $35,730. Was hoping it would stay in the low 30s but still better bang for the buck than the STi and Evo for sure.

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/07/29/2016-ford-focus-rs-pricing-report/

Posted by: Kiroshino Aug 6 2015, 06:54 PM
That's about what I was expecting, priced around its competition. Easily over $40k when all said and done, but still a fair amount of car for the money.

Posted by: RalliKai Aug 7 2015, 07:43 AM
I'm glad they're sticking to the universal specs of the car for the US market. I'd still like to see Ford bring over some of its' global engines for the Focus instead of sticking to the NA 2.0L that they've used since the beginning.

Posted by: Spaz Aug 7 2015, 07:49 AM
It's $36.6k with delivery, but still, awesome price for a car that based on some insider info I've got is VERY competitive out of the box. Like, throw a base model at the USCA and take podiums competitive.

The general enthusiast consensus has been that this will replace the Evo's segment of the market, but that's simply untrue. This eclipses it completely in performance ability alone. The Evo X will be 8 year old tech when the RS releases, and it will certainly make it look like it.

Posted by: RalliKai Aug 7 2015, 10:27 AM
There are also rumors floating around that Mazda is working on an AWD Mazdaspeed 3 that will be in the 300 pony department. If it's true, that will easily fill the void the departing Evo X will create.

The Focus RS will basically be in its own category. Priced like a Golf R but performs as good but probably better than an Audi RS3.

I think it's fairly priced here in the US, at least in terms of MSRP:

Focus RS: $35,730+
WRX STI: $34,695+
Evo GSR: $34,495+
Golf R: $35,650+

Of course, the actual dealer price might make it noncompetitive. Also, I haven't taken into consideration the features that these cars offer.

Going to have to take the RS for a spin one day. dribble.gif

Seems like it's way more fairly priced over there. Funny thing is that it's technically cheaper to get the RS here, since the price in the US, when converted to Canadian dollars, is about 3-4 thousand dollars more than the price of the RS here.

Focus RS: $46,969+
WRX STI: $37,995+
EVO GSR: $41,998+
Golf R: $39,995+

Idk if it's been mentioned before, but don't forget about the mark up for the Focus RS. I mean I am not sure how it is in in the mainland US or around the world. But here in Hawaii the RS goes for a minimum of $40k (Everything cool here has mar up, it's ridiculous) I have a friend that works at a Ford dealership and I was legit going to try and get one through him. But he can't even get one at MSRP.
